 Solved the problem

I've found the solution to this problem. In fact, you put a wrong path to your pictures inside your xml file.
You wrote this "/usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/fedora8/" instead of "/usr/share/pixmaps/background/gnome".
It's this place that install.sh copy pictures.
All you have to do is to edit fedora8.xml and replace with the correct path ;)

I couldn't find the fault neither in the install script nor in the XML file. The install script moves the folder "fedora8" to /usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/ , so the path for the filenames given in the xml file is correct.
Remember , you have to run the script as "root" from the directory to which you've extracted the archive ie from the fedora-animated folder. Change your working directory first and then run the script. If you've follwed these steps correctly , it should work - I just "reinstalled" it now , and it seems to be working fine.

I meant "I couldn't find a fault either with the install script or with the xml file". Apologise to add to the confusion :)

I wonder how you got the pictures in /usr/share/pixmaps/background/gnome .

I just launched your script as root and it put all pictures and the xml file in gnome directory, not fedora8 directory.
When I came back in the folder that contained install.sh and pictures ( inside fedora8 folder ), there were just install.sh and readme files in this folder.

Hmm .. When I run the script , it moves the folder fedora8 to /usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/. I'm not sure about this. If the script had something like ./fedora8/* , I'd expect it to behave the way you mentioned.
