 by Katie on: Mar 17 2008

Please help... I tried to install it but a dependency problem occurred:

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libc6

I did sudo-apt-get install libc6 and the following were installed from repo: libc6, libc6-dev and libc6-i686

But still the problem remains. I have ubuntu gutsy installed in my machine. Any help is appreciated. tnx

Try install it from the command line with dpkg -i. I had also problems with installing it with GDebi on Debian Testing, but from the command line everything was ok.

I did install through the command line and it seems it was forcibly installed, though still there seems to be errors. Take a look:

penguin@penguin-ubuntu:~/Desktop$ sudo dpkg -i nimbus-engine_0.0.12-1.deb
[sudo] password for penguin:
(Reading database ... 123987 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace gtk2-engines-nimbus 0.0.10-1 (using nimbus-engine_0.0.12-1.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement gtk2-engines-nimbus ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of gtk2-engines-nimbus:
gtk2-engines-nimbus depends on libc6 (>= 2.7-1); however:
Version of libc6 on system is 2.6.1-1ubuntu10.
gtk2-engines-nimbus depends on libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.18.4); however:
Version of libpango1.0-0 on system is 1.18.3-0ubuntu1.
dpkg: error processing gtk2-engines-nimbus (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
gtk2-engines-nimbus

I looked at the Synaptic Package Manager and obviously there is broken dependencies for gtk2-nimbus-engine.

I hope you can figure out what causes this problem.

Hm, strange. I was with Gutsy too half year ago and I didn't notice such problem. Maybe Maybe I must change the dependencies of the package, but I'm not sure what will be the effect of the style. I will look for solution as soon as possible.

The problem is fixed. I've just added a Ubuntu-compatible package of the GTK engine. :)
