Description:

No, it's not the love metal album by HIM, but a new theme for Beryl! ;)

This project started out as an exercise for drawing shiny mouseover buttons. I ended up liking the results so much, that the mockups soon turned into a real theme. Black and glossy are the keywords here - with a hint of translucency and traffic lights coloured glowing buttons.

DarkLight goes best together with darker graphite coloured themes, but of course you can use it with any widget style you see fit. I do plan on making a hybrid Murrine / Pixmap GTK2 theme to complement the look, but that is going to take a while. A Metacity port is also on the horizon.

Hopefully someone finds this theme usefull... putting it together really was a lot of work. *phew*

Beryl 0.1.4 seems to have some serious drawing issues with DarkLight and many other pixmap based themes. I'll release an update as soon as I figure out what's causing the problem.

What a beautiful play-thing you've made here. Thank you so much. I'm using it on my desktop right now. I'll be sticking with this one for a while. Has a wonderful Star Trek the Original Series vibe going.

using this as my current theme...the emerald description says it goes best with darklight gtk...do u've anything released along with this?

that's a lovely theme. I really missed a simple black emerald theme to go with the ubuntu studio theme.

that is a seriously awesome theme. beryl is leaving my mates gob smacked, and this theme is in my opinion anyway the best so far. Anyway, I do have one slight suggestion/request. Ive always been annoyed at ppl pointing out how "Linux rips of windows", even tho the development of the themes is completely independent. Anyway, Ive always fancied the idea of a single skinny bar in place of the 3 buttons with rounded edges. When the buttons are unhilighted, theres basically just a trend from green to red going left to right with yellow in the middle. when a button does get highlighted, it glows that color like your other buttons already do. I don't know why, i just think it would go well with your theme. Im no artist tho, i tried it with dekorator and failed miserably. Anyway, just a suggestions.

There aren't nearly enough dark-themed items in general, let alone for Emerald. This is just beautiful. Your work is greatly appreciated.

It's a good theme. The engine doesn't seem to be as fast as others, so the theme isn't as fast. Anything you can do about that?

What I first thought of when I read the title wasn't the CD by HIM, but the KISS (Ace Frehley) song DarkLight off Music from the Elder. :D

Both the song and the theme are great. Good work!
