I figured it out. In the menu.lst file in the grub directory look for this line:

## ## End Default Options ##

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.15-27-386
root (hd0,3)

We need the root (hd0, 3) info. Yours is probably differnt.

So my setup, just under the first stanza is:

splashimage=(hd0,3)/boot/grub/images/splash2.xpm.gz

By the way, the highlight bar doesn't work with einsten,xpm.gz. Not a big deal unless you want to switch to windows, and who wants to do that?

I can't seem to get it working. How do I know if it is hd0,0 or hd1,0 or something else? I tried both and neither worked.

Yes, it is amused for me too. I try to put a type of font that gave the appearance of chalk, but not have many available sources, I believe that the next edition to use another Font or a filter for the text layer.
