I just wanted to change the nm-applet icons because honestly i started to hate these blue blocks. I redesigned the icons for all 5 states of the signal using GIMP.

Comments and suggestions are welcome, it is however my first attempt on graphics in Linux.

To install simply copy the five icons in the folder of the icon theme that you use in 22x22/apps or 24x24/apps

This iconset is for an applet (networkmanager) This is available in Mandriva medias. Simply install networkmanager-applet package, and then copy this archive as root to:

?/usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/

this will replace the current ones that is set by default of networkmanager.

I've also copied these files to my current icon folder of my theme (GNOME) and placed them inside the :

/usr/share/icons/gnome/22x22/apps/

I restarted many times and my networkmanager still refused to change.. UNTIL..... I increased the size of my panel bar to 30+ pixels.. then the image for my wifi finally switched!! :)

Looks great with Mandriva2010.0 Very nice work!

Hi guys. As far as I am concerned, this modification only works for ubuntu distro's. So if your having problems, and not running ubuntu, it ain't gonna work. I believe the reason for this is different distros use different network manager's, and i am sure that not all network managers use "system shared" icons. I'm running mandriva, and this did not work for me. Cheers.

the icon theme I'm using, do not have a 22x22 or a 24x24 icon set. what to do?

I've got the snow-apple icon theme for metacity

i am a beginner as well, i think you need to put them in usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22 and 24x24 depending. just backup your original icons first

which icon theme do you use? where is it located? in ~/.icons ? or in usr/share? did you refresh your icon theme in theme manager after overwriting the icons?
