currently works well on my ubuntu feisty box with all needed packages installed. the mp4 fils converted should be ipod-ready so searching gtkpod howto upload video to ipod in order to upload or use itunes on OSX/**dos to do that.
I´m too lazy to list all the dependencies but the unsmart way is just install mplayer, ffmpeg, mencoder, lame and any gstreamer-plugins you can find and then you should be fine.
vedio converting takes a lot of resource and time so be patient.
During the progress use top you should see mencoder is running, otherwise something is wrong.
ubuntu users plez don´t be afraid to install -dev packages they are very usefull!

PS. The widescreen mp4 option is for convert widescreen mp4 videos for vipod.
it basically adds a top and bottom bar to videos in order to keep the wide aspect.

Great Job !

I use avi & mp4 converter daily to convert the .ts files I download from my box.

Just one thing. It would be nice to have another message box with the option 2 passes to improve the quality.

This is a great and VERY much needed script, you have done good work friend.

One thing, I just ran it to test and if you hit cancel on the first menu to choose format, the next dialog box still shows up to select bitrate. No biggie for me but I know many linux users can be anal, so perhaps want to fix it so that cancel means cancel :)

Thanks for all the replies~
I have to admit that I am really a beginner of both linux and coding. This script is actually just a collecting of commands. If you take a look at it you may find it's pretty ugly on syntax.
so plz plz post/email any requires/bugs so I can improve it, also very welcome to make a better version if you could.
