Description:

"Because humans need Oxygen."

A new effort to create a set of icons mixing the modern style of KDEs "Oxygen" icons with Ubuntu's "Human" set.

This icon set has been crafted by the Ubuntu Artwork community and therefor has Ubuntu in mind for it's intended use.

Breathe inherits Human then GNOME. This will account for it's somewhat disjointed look at times. As expected, icons will be replaced as development continues.

For comprehensive info including how to get involved please see the "Homepage" link.

An Ubuntu PPA containing packages for Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty can be found here:

The svg pictures really look crude, at least in KDE. There's some text in the left upper corner behind the icons. Isn't that viewable in Gnome? I hope this will be fixed?

I would like to include some of your icons in my coming soong project Eclip-X, of course crediting the source of the icons and whatever.

I was considering downloading these when synaptic told me that the package would use nearly 60MB of space! I'm sure this wouldn't bode well for memory and speed of drawing the icons either.

Time to remove the repository I just added...

So, after a clean install of Karmic, when I choose Breathe iconset for my theme, the back/forward/reload/home buttons of nautilus remain blue as in gnome default, and icons in places>bookmarks as well as in firefox's bookmarks, remain the ugly grey gnome defaults.

Any ideas/solutions?

Because I have grown an addiction for Breathe iconset... Please.

I think that breath is going well, but the folder icons looks bad. The ones used on humanity or Gnome-colors are better choices.

I like the folders. They have a little bit more details like gnome-colors etc. And the little transparency on the sides are very nice.

It has potential, but currently is ugly in coparision with gnome-colors..

These icons are simply too blurry, like any other oxygen variations or MAX OS X or other icons....

Making 1000 or more icons doesn't mean anything if all sizes are not nice, clean and SHARP..

Breath is my currently default icon theme. Very good. I know that it is only 50% complete yet, but i think that Synaptic should receibe a new icon too. ;)

With a little polish and upon completion of the entire set I believe this should definitely replace the tired Human icon set as the default in Karmic. I've been following the progress of this set since it was called "Air" on the Karmic incoming artwork page and really like what I see. Disregard the naysayers and keep at it. Great work so far!

On a real desktop look very ugly and there is no clearness. This children's style has bothered.

Hello! Beautiful icons, but are not homogeneous. For example the icons for "logout" "turn off" and the others are like the plastic style, the icons for "zoomin", "zoomout" are too light compared to the others ... look at the Oxygen icons or just see the Hydroxygen icons set

Sorry for my english

Everyone should remember this is a work in progress and our 1st release.

Both sets mentioned have had *alot* more time to develop. We'll get there. ;)

Breath icons is one of the best icon themes for ubuntu right now. I woul suggest to change the icons of Wireless Connectivity and Xchat for the ones used on Gnome-Colors.

Unfortunately your icons scale very poorly. Learn from other's mistakes and success and make scalability a main priority!

Do you mind giving more info on what icons dont scale well / how to make it better ?

What tools do you yourself use for that ?

What I mean is that a lot of these icons look like they've been designed on a very large scale and then sort of adapted to squeeze into small places, when the reality is that the most common size of icon you will see is going to be 24px and 16px in toolbars, menus, and buttons.

Users spend a lot more time in apps than in the file browser where 48px and higher sized icons will be found.

Everything from 48px down was designed at that size. (with few exceptions)

There will be a few at 48 that have higher detail than some would like but it's intentional. (obviously not everyone will agree)

I think it's not that the icons don't scale well - they were drawn very well, it's just the lack of thick outlines like gnome or tango make them seem a tad blurry in sizes smaller than 48px. I imagine this is a creative decision (as I read it on the wiki), rather than a bug.

Other than that, great effort! I want to see what this set evolves into.
