(sorry, doesn't really fit in the given categories) I had the problem that GRUB doesn't work on my laptop but LILO does - I'm using ubuntu and all offered bootsplashes are debian ones. What a huge problem ;-) Well, I just modified one to better fit the OS booted ;-)
