[ FAQ ]

question: the buttons for the window border being on the left,
is that a theme thing or can that be configured somewhere?

Answer: ( original tutorial by -fissy. )

using the "run program" action or a terminal, start gconf by typing:

gconf-editor

and hitting enter.

This program is a bit like the registry editor for windows.

In the tree on the left you need to go to /apps/metacity/general/

There is then a key in the right pane called "button_layout"

edit this key so that it reads:

CODE
close,minimize,maximize:menu

or
CODE
close,maximize,minimize:menu

enjoy!

Doesn't work for me (Ubuntu Edgy). I don't get round buttons, scrollbars are not in Mac OSX style and a load of other objects are not in Mac OSX style.

Solved :-)

Just install gtk2-engines-pixmap and the theme works fine!

Report

This can't be true; There is no gtk2-engines-pixmap package in Edgy or Feisty. (http://packages.ubuntu.com/) There is a pixmap engine for GTK 1.2. Is this themes that outdated?

Report

For Feisty it's gtk2-engines-pixbuf

Yo, I like this. How did you get your to panel rounded on the edge? Anothar thing. Can I ask for your permission to use most of the gtk2 files and gtkrc file for a mac theme I am making that I want to post on gnome-look.org?

I like your theme. However, I am a newbie and can not make it work.

1. How to setup the top and button tool strip?
2. When mouse over the button, both foreground and background color become white, the label is almost invisible.

Another thing, I thing you have to install another package and change user interface as well as the windows manager to make it work? Can you put more instruction on the install guide?

Thanks
Jack

I don't know if it's just me or on an LCD monitor, does this theme look like a Windows Paint JPEG?

The effort is nice and it might be a good theme for show and not authenticity, but if you're going for an authentic Mac OS X look, veer away from this one.

If its a unix theme, made to look like a mac theme, why is there an internet explorer icon?

Otherwise great job.

Thanks,

I don't mind if it is fake but the problem is I can not make it work on Gnome, Debian Etch please tell me if there is chance to
make it work.

Yes it works on Debian, well unstable at least.

Had to make a small change to the button switch instructions, had to add an extra close for the close button to appear.

Report

ethyrdude

Okay, don't need the extra close just add a comma before the code, eg.:
,close,maximize,minimize:menu

gdesklets take a lot of resources to run, not for the older system.

Hi, this is a original MacOS screenshot, so don't try to find some Gnome top or bottom panels like this.

it's not a faked screenshot.
he use gdesklets, and so you have a starterbar like this. I use this desklets (called "starterbar"), wich has the same look, like mac.
the others parts are just icons so...

Yeah no it's not a fake, he just uses a magical port of Internet Explorer that he found while digging for gold when he met the lepricons. Here's a tip: try looking at the picture before commenting on it.

Okay say he installed IE 5 for some reason only God knows why. How do you explain the OS X toolbar that appears on the top panel? Or the fact that the toolbar at the bottom looks nothing like gdesklets' toolbar?

Yeah, a magical port of Internet Explorer, that or just uses the icon for Epiphany.

Very nice theme! to make it even better, could you implement the following improvements:

  • scroll bars go over the end icon on the bottom or right side, please fix it, it works on the top and left side.

  • Tabs in firefox have an irritating blue underline, please remove this. Also it is not aligned with the underline in the active tab.

  • Font color of non selected window application caption in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen are white when mouse is hovering over it. The contrast with the bright background is too less, please use a grey font color.

Hope this theme will continue to be supported and extended.

I've fixed the third bug: just edit the gtkrc file located at ~/.themes/MacOS-X/gtk-2.0 (if you're using gtk-2.0), and change the foreground color of PRELIGHT which is denoted as fg[PRELIGHT] to be {0.60,0.60,0.60}

Just enjoying!

Hello

have a look at:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12097

This seems to be a menu like the above. I would also be happy to know which menubar is used for this gnome-screenshot.
