Description:

The original Comix Cursors.

X11 mouse theme with a comics feeling.
The package comes with 12 different mouse themes for X11.
6 colors (black, blue, green, orange, red and white)
2 different weights (slim and normal)

From version 0.8 on the cursors are 'multisize', meaning that you don't need to install one theme for each size, but only one theme, and chose the size in the cursor theme selection dialog.

The full installation also includes left-handed themes, you can choose whatever you prefer from the downloads below.

The cursors are named according to the freedesktop.org cursor naming convention, compatibility and hash cursor names are linked. In addition to the original cursor pack left-handed and opaque versions are still available here.

Please read the README and INSTALL files provided in the source package for installation and packaging instructions, as well as some hints on various issues.

"Vast" versions for visually impaired can be downloaded here: http://www.limitland.de/comixcursors.html . There are links for windows ports by firstfooter, teft and Jus on that page as well.

If you don't like the "hair" line for the text-, vertical-text- and crosshair-cursors, you can download the "NOHAIR"-sources below and replace the source files "text.svg", "vertical-text.svg" and "crosshair.svg" sources in the svg/LeftHanded and svg/RightHanded source-directories and build your cursors. These cursors might look better to you e.g. on dark backgrounds.

GNOME USERS:
------------
Ben has investigated how to configure the cursor size:

* Gnome supports multiple cursor sizes in one cursor theme, but only
distinct sizes: 16, 24, 32, and 48 pixels.

There is no known Gnome 3 application for setting the size of the mouse
cursor. You need to set the desired size in pixels as the value of the
DConf setting ‘org.gnome.desktop.interface.cursor-size’. You can use
‘dconf-editor’ (from the ‘dconf-tools’ package) or ‘gsettings’ to change
DConf settings.

ComixCursors come in sizes 32, 40, 48 and 64.

Hey,
do you see the small cusrsors only? Using gnome? Install a previous version prior to 0.8, there seems to be currently no "multisize" support under gnome.

Oh boy, the sources are broken, also in the repository. I am working on a fix.

I've using it for years, i really like it, but with the 0.8 version i can't get it working on gnome 3.8, it brings me the default theme, am I doing something wrong? i put them in /usr/share/icons/ as always.

Thanks in advance and congratulations for a top quality work.

OK, thanks for the report, investigating. Give me a little time though.

Hi,
I have tried that with gnome 3.8, but the cursors showed up nearly as expected. The only drawback was, that I could not choose the cursor size in the settings panel, and I suppose that's the problem. I could imagine that there is some hidden configuration setting, which stores the cursor size. Your stored size might differ from the ones available in the comixcursors package? That's just a guess.
So I recommend you to switch back to the 0.7.4 or 0.7.3 version. There is no difference in the cursors appearance, but a change in the build process and for the 0.8 version the switch to multisize cursors.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

That was my thought too, Gnome lacks cursor size configuration settings, there are some files that has to be modified in order to achieve that, but since there is no visual difference, i'll stick to the 0.7.4 version till we can change sizes in Gnome someday. Using 3.10 now and there are no size settings yet.

Thanks again and congratulations for your gorgeous cursor themes.

Are the large versions of the cursors a thing of the past?

Report

Hi,
no? It's rather the small versions, better suited for small screen resolutions.
The large ones are for people who need some extra visual feedback.

In Ubuntu 13.04 my cursors don't have a shadow, but instead a grey transparent square around them. Anyone else seeing this?

Report

jlue

Hi, that's probably your graphics driver, that handles the transparency of the cursors. You could try switching off hardware acceleration.

Report

Don't I need my hardware acceleration to run unity and other stuff properly?

Nevermind, it's an issue with the Ubuntu 13.04 package only. It seems all the pics have had their background darkened somehow. You're probably not the one who provides the Ubuntu repository packages, right?
