I've successfully installed the theme, but only the image is showed. Then when I run "sudo usplash -c" and then back to the desktop, it says "usplash: can't get console font: Invalid argument." Help me, I really like this theme!

this is my problem as well... i went through all of these comments trying everyone's suggestions to try and not get the "black box" to appear with no luck.

like the person above though, my usplash output does say the same thing "can't get console font".

perhaps this has something to do with the problem everyone else is experiencing (incorrect font settings?)

hopefully i'll be able to use this theme, it's really sharp

I'm having the same problem on Ubuntu 7.10, latest headers as of 12/14/07.

Any help on this is appreciated, the splash looks great except for this big black box.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. I try going into it with recovery mode via GRUB and it stops after saying that it cannot open the root device. Essentially it can no longer mount the main file system for some odd reason. Since I'm not an expert on file systems and making changes to linux without a working operating system, I'm somewhat SOL and will have to reinstall. I would recommend Ubuntu 7.10 users to stay away for now.

Found a way to fix the boot process, and keep the new splash screen as well. All the instructions are listed on this forum thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3837097#post3837097

Enjoy!

I am trying to install the fingerprint usplash theme on Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 (amd64) with a 1280x1024 screen. I followed the instructions exactly, and when I rebooted my computer, after going through grub, I got a blank screen. Even after letting it sit for a couple of minutes, it still had a blank screen. And the monitor didn't think it was getting any input at all.

I know there is some bug in usplash with amd64 and/or my screen resolution, and normally to get my computer to boot I have to remove the "splash" from the kernel line, but I thought the page for this theme said it dealt with that bug....

I first tried this with 0.2alpha1, and then with 0.1stable (since it has an amd64 specific binary), but both failed.

I tried changing /etc/usplash.conf to specify 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024, but it didn't help. I'm not sure want else to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

OMG I'm so sorry... I didn't think the page had submitted at all since it kept requiring me to log in, and then didn't take me back to the post page.

Just cut off the vga=ecc parameter and the quiet parameter from your /boot/grub/menu.lst file.

When I shutdown my computer (ubuntu Feisty), the splash say: "Now loading Linux, ...", I don't think this is correct, isn't it?

I am using 0.1 stable version. Hope this can be fixed in next stable release.
