Oxygen KDE (Firefox Theme)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by jimmy88 1778 comments

This theme rules, but there are some problems with it:
1. When window decoration is disabled (I do this via KWin configuration), and window is maximized, tabs are inaccessible at top of screen, i.e. you have to move cursor several pixels down to hit the tab. Annoys very much and isn't good from Fitts' law POV. And this doesn't happen with default theme.
2. Pseudo-rounded menus are ugly because of black borders. I'd prefer them being rectangle if it's not possible to use XShape or ARGB compositing.
3. Some widgets, e.g. tabs still don't look 100% Oxygen. Not sure if it's fundamental limitation, but I'd like to have this solved. - Dec 02 2012

This is a known limitation of some compositors such as compiz and, as I now see, openbox. They don't render shadows behind translucent parts of windows, so you see this as light borders when background is light and almost correct rounding when shadow appears invisible because of dark background. Try kwin, and you'll not have this problem :) Or just disable shadows for popup windows. - Nov 09 2012

You don't need kdelibs5-dev to build oxygen-gtk.
Also, you could just install libgtk-3-dev - it has all the dependencies which cmake checks for, including libcairo2-dev and libx11-dev.

This might be not a good idea to put into INSTALL file, because the instructions generally depend on the distro. - Jun 09 2012

We do support this version, it's 2.24.0 as said in original post. Just need some fixes to disable building inner shadows code at all (it requires 2.24.2).

Yeah, as Hugo says, you can use KWin. Another option is to use XFWM and check out this (will require patching XFWM): http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php?content=123744 . Buttons are a bit outdated here (i.e. don't have the new glow of KDE4.8), but it still does match oxygen widget style. - Feb 05 2012

libgtk2.0-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev
Other build dependencies will be automatically installed to satisfy dependencies of these packages.

Yes, my fault. I forgot that the patch is now relative to root dir, not src. So, don't cd to src - patch from xfwm4-4.6.2 directory, like this:

cd xfwm4-4.6.2/

Please let me know if this helps. - Nov 16 2011

You can copy kdeglobals and oxygenrc from another system, these files *in KDE* are located in $HOME/.kde/share/config. - Oct 08 2011

> the window border didn'nt seem to be compiled.
Window decorations can't be themed by a GTK theme. You should either search for oxygen theme for your WM (in GNOME it's Metacity)(though for most of WMs it's not available) or you can install kwin, which does have such theme. Alternatively, you can use xfwm4 (will need to patch it first) and install kde47-oxygen theme for it.

> Also, how can I change the panel size to 20px
What panel do you mean?

> how can make the theme a little bit brighter?
This theme uses KDE settings files, or config files located in $HOME/.config/oxygen-gtk (which may not exist until you create ones, in which case default settings will be used) or in /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0, if KDE is not installed. You can try editing them, or installing systemsettings application from KDE. - Oct 07 2011

I'd rather say it's cairo which got broken by update. The bug is likely located in the video driver. What if you try with "vesa" Xorg driver?
Anyway, if you only updated xorg and nothing more, it's most likely not our fault. Report this problem to your distribution. - Aug 28 2011

Yakuake Ethais KDE4

Yakuake Skins by Rendergraf 9 comments

Theme looks nice, but it's incomplete, i.e. not fully Oxygen (not sure if you intended it to be a complete match).
Here's what could be improved:
1. Plus & Minus buttons should change icon color on hover to match Close & Focus button.
2. Close button's icon shouldn't become gray when pressed (see kwin's close button).
3. Selected tabs should have shadows as if light is above the screen, not "north-west" of it to match Oxygen. For examples see any toolbar toggle-buttons in e.g. Dolphin.
Also, if possible with current yakuake:
4. There should be prelight on non-selected tab buttons like on toolbuttons in Oxygen.
5. Would be nice if Focus button could be prelit when pressed.

Other than that, theme is really good. I'm using it by as default now :) - Aug 18 2011

Of course, window manager is supposed to be themed separately. It's not a gtk widget.
You can install kwin and use oxygen style with it.
Or, try this hack for xfwm4: http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php?content=123744 .
For other WMs oxygen isn't available yet. - Jul 11 2011

Great program, i use it very often.
One feature i'd like to request: progress indication. It might be difficult to know total number of files until it's counted, but progress can be determined by computing total size of files scanned and compare it to disk usage.
It would be good to see a progress bar near count of files scanned. - Jun 28 2011

The decision to not merge this version with official was made not just to make the users curse the devs. It was because of technical problems AFAICT. You still can use this version instead of official one, what's the problem? - Jun 16 2011

Libreoffice, like firefox, also isn't gtk app. It uses its custom toolkit, which only needs gtk or qt to draw widgets (or uses its own theme).

This good package you use might be specific to your distribution. AFAIR official libreoffice has its own libstdc++.so as well as libcairo.so (and a bunch of other libs) with it. - Jun 15 2011

Future versions won't fix this. This really is a bug of packaging, not libreoffice itself.
You can work around it by removing (or renaming) libstdc++.so and libcairo.so files in libreoffice dir (usually /opt/libreoffice/.... - use find to locate them, but be careful to not remove system ones). - May 04 2011

Most likely the problem is intel video driver (see corrupted desktop background, not only fonts). You can prove it by checking if the problem remains with vesa xorg driver.

Have never seen such problem with xfce. Does the problem reappear if you start X server via this command:
startx /usr/bin/xterm
then start some non-xfce apps (e.g. GIMP) from xterm window, and suspend/resume after this?
Also, does using another WM than compiz fix the problem?
Does the problem exist for previous versions of oxygen-gtk (use "git reset --hard v1.0.0" to reset the tree to version 1.0.0 etc.) ?
Also, i'd like to see a screenshot of the distortions. - Mar 02 2011
