Hardware Messages MOCKUP

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by RikRat 26 comments

To implement the messages is easy (at least on linux), just look at hotplug. It launches an executable with the relevant parameters when something happens. Hotplug sends events which indicates that usb devices with is connected, and then after a while it sends an event that indicates that a new disk (partition) is connected. The problem is to manage abstraction (of devices) and permissions, e.g. mounting requires root etc. - Oct 04 2005

I am unfortunatly unable to implement a QT style using normal Arthur drawing routines because of some limitations of the Arthur drawing system and the styling system. It may be possible to draw the style with external drawing routines like the native WinXp style, but I am not good enough to do that.

Worst limitations:

Does this style work with QT4 or KDE 4.0 SVN, or does it belong to the KDE 3.2-3.5 section? - Aug 26 2005

I have uploaded a version to my Qlouds home page, please check it and tell me if (and how) you think i could have made the gradient better. I think it is a litte diffecult to make it since it is only the surface, and not the shadow. (but the shadow is *much* more work, which i won't do now). - Aug 24 2005

I am currently in my first week at school, so it may take a little while to find time to implement the tinting. I didn't really understand what the "glossy tint" is. Is it the shadows of the widgets, the gradient on the widgets or the white border around the widgets, or am I totally lost and it is something else? (May you do a quick mocup/sketch in inkscape showing just what it is, then it hopefully, is simple for me to convert it to (QT 4) vector code) - Aug 23 2005

The screenshots are from kde 4.0 SVN.

The style is not (nativly) made for KDE, but Qt 4 (as stated in the depends on field). Unfortunatly there are no Qt 4 themes/styles section, so I decided that KDE 4.0 fits better than other/theme style, and putted it here. It is possible to use this style in KDE 4 SVN.

The current kde 4 code is very unstable and not useable for coding or other "real" work. - Aug 12 2005

Good idea.

Here is a (LGPL)'ed aqua background pattern, made in gimp. ((95%) white each 4rd point):

It is transparency in the widgets. Buttons, tabs etc. If you look at the tab bar in the secound scrrenshot, then you are able to see the brushed metal texture trough the tabs. It is also working in konqueror where you are able to see the web page trough the form controls (buttons etc.).

This is not so easy to see when the grey background is used. - Aug 11 2005

It is possible to adjust the colours (RGBA), and turn off the transparency in the configuration. Just set the alpha component to 254 (255 gives default transparency). - Aug 10 2005

How to install:
compile the libraries
copy the libraries into
$QTDIR/plugins/styles/
run: $QTDIR/bin/qtconfig
select qlouds

In your case $QTDIR (for your qt4 installation) seems to be "/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.0.0/".

1:The 3rd screenshot is captured using "kompmgr" on the experimental Kdrive Xserver which means (KAA). Kompmgr & the style seems to work with XAA drivers on a standard X.org server too, at least on cvs. I don't know about EXA since i have not foud any usable drivers usable on my (NVIDIA) graphics card yet :(.

2:Qt (and the style) does not use XComposite for drawing the widgets, but XRender. The compositing uses XRender too to do the actual transparent effects.
Since style speed = xrender speed, and compositing speed = xrender speed (mostly) then style speed = compositing speed (mostly), at least for a reference.

Btw. Tell me if you mind that I am using the menu system from the baghira.sf.net site for my qklouds website. - Jul 21 2005
amaroK Web Frontend

Audio Apps by ObsidianX 63 comments

It seems like the reason for theese strange caracters is that amarok stores the names of the songs in unicode. If you paste a name into kwrite with encoding set to cp 1252 then save it, and change the encoding to utf8, the right charaters will up.

The best way to fix this is to convert the entire frontend to utf-8, and then put "header("Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8");" at the top of the php files before any output.

This meta tag may help too:
[meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /]

Baghira does not work with kde 3.4 (beta 1) :(
Is it possible to release a version (0.6b etc.) that works with kde 3.4 (beta).

Kde 3.4 (official gentoo ebuild):

checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!
