Not developing this theme anymore. This one is a similar attempt at a dark/blue theme:

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Deep+Gnome+Theme?content=113878 - Jan 20 2010
The bold fonts will only look good if you're using a quality font, with what is called "true bolds" (like Lucida, Myriad Pro, Liberation Sans, etc.), otherwise it will look blurry.

So I recommend using a good font anyway, as the bold helps increasing contrast. If you still want to disable bold on menus, edit the file ~/.themes/Neon/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, and remove the line at 15.

See also the included README for more tips on getting better fonts. - Dec 11 2008

I'm shocked at how low the score of this theme is. As a deskmoder myself, I tell you this is VERY well done, very professional looking, and there's a great concept behind making this suitable for an Ubuntu theme. Even if this is not adopted by default, this theme should exist by itself. - Oct 26 2008

Thanks! I don't understand what you mean by the comboboxes (they're the same, draw by Clearlooks).

About the color mods, they're are easy enough for anyone change in the appearance dialog as pleased, I coded the theme to be compatible with colors other than the defaults. - Sep 22 2008

Edit gtkrc at these lines:

GtkVScrollbar ::has-backward-stepper = 0
GtkVScrollbar ::has-secondary-backward-stepper = 1

To:

GtkVScrollbar ::has-backward-stepper = 1
GtkVScrollbar ::has-secondary-backward-stepper = 0 - Aug 24 2008

I mean, e.g., in open file dialog. Look for .tar.gz files, the icon is no the cardbox, but just a plain file icon. The size used on that dialog is 8x8, I guess? - Sep 02 2008
Just to let you know: it's not really a problem if you ship in the same package icons that are GPL'd and others are CC, if you make it clear what icons are under one license and what are under another.

But if you find it much trouble, you can make 2 themes with their own individual license, and make one inherit the other in index.theme. - Aug 24 2008
Great theme. Very complete covering of icons, and in all sizes. Plus, all stock icons (arrows, add, delete, etc.) look great.

Would like to see a version with mimetypes for 8x8, as they are very common when seeing files in list mode.

Props! - Aug 24 2008

I'm desolated with the Linux audience today.

You might be another Ubuntu noob introduced to Linux and hyped about the word "freedom", but confusing "freedom" with direspect to copyright. That's anarchism, so don't insert the word "freedom" here if you don't know what the fuck that word it means. - Jul 24 2008

For the upsets about he is asking donations: STFU. You don't know what GPL is, so stop NOW and go read.

Author: Charge as much as you want, and make a great iconset.

You could even release the iconset only for who pays for it, GPL means only that you will need to release the sources together with final artwork. GPL has nothing about charging, and much less with asking donation. - Feb 28 2008
"This theme is under GPL which means that it is suppose to be free as in price and in copyright."

Free as in price? Please, shut your mouth, and go read the GPL license, or better, FSF site, where Stallman itself tells the difference between "freedom" and "for free".

You clearly don't know what the fuck GPL is about, and you clearly are only more Linux user thinking Linux is freeware land. - Feb 28 2008

Yes, for two reasons:

- First, those are copyrighted trademarks, that I guess you don't have permission to use.

- Second, you are doing free marketing to them and getting nothing ($$$) in return. - Feb 10 2008
Can you please explain what the connection between GIMP and Windows, Mac, and various Linux distros, for having a branded GIMP splash screen?

Anyway... I like it, it's well done. - Feb 09 2008

Not the first time this happens. Recently, 50% of the uploaded stuff is copyrighted, mostly Apple stuff, but other things like copyrighted distros or Firefox logos too.

And people already want to claim they know what free licenses are, when they don't even know what Copyright implies. It's a shame. - Feb 11 2008

First, let me thank for the widgets, those are awesome and I hope to see it working on Qt4 soon.

After using it for a while, I've encoutered some minor issues, so I have those requests to adress them:

- Progress bars should have a separate text colour config, or at least follow button text color instead of normal text, to avoid problems with dark themes.
- Same for list headers.
- An option for non-rounded menus would be great too.

I hope someone can fix those. Thanks! - Feb 10 2008

Are you sure? I just installed it here, and there is now a giant Windows Logo on the panel. - Jan 01 2008
The Windows Vista (TM) logo there is an error, because makes it look like a cheap rip-off - which it isn't, because its a good menu idea after all. Would be a lot better if you can remove the logo.

Now, a note to gnome-look.org users:

How can people say that know what "copyleft" is when they keep proving they don't even understand what "copyright" implies?

Rip-offs and use of copyrighted work are a shame to Linux and FOSS comunity in general, and this site is getting full of those atitudes recently. Please, let's respect the copyrighted works, and instead of riping it, creating your original ones. - Jan 01 2008

Don't use other icons INSIDE your icon, this can cause confusion by the user, poor metaphor, and most importantly, copyright problems (Firefox logo is a Mozilla copyright, for your information).

A good proposal, as said, is something related to the Gnome (so, the Gnome foot), combined with something that reveals the launching intention (a spring, or maybe a rocket, a catapult... but I guess the spring is still the better metaphor for launching). - Dec 07 2007

Put a rhythmbox icon on apps, scaled down to 16x16, 22x22, 32x32 and so on. This way, GNOME will use those icons to fit on the panel with the right size. That will work. - Dec 05 2007
