This was just a very old version of Clearlooks (from two years before!) with Compiz' default window decorations (before Compiz was compatible with Metacity themes). - Aug 21 2009
fixed now - May 03 2008
did you forget the dot (".") at the end? it means "current folder". - Apr 26 2008
cd ~/.icons/OSX/scalable/places/ && mv "original folders/*" .

...should work - Apr 26 2008
not surprised at all, since they keep changing names around and I don't maintain this anymore (as stated above) - Apr 06 2008
bonjour jean-lux, as I said I don't have time and motivation to maintain this anymore. If someone wants to do it, I'll gladly hand over the ownership. - Oct 20 2007
I have actually stopped using my own icon theme pretty much since the Tango project started bringing nice crisp icons onto my desktop (and now I love the new official GNOME icons too), and since gnome's icon naming conventions are subject to change for freedesktop compliance, it is possible that it broke for gnome 2.20.

I haven't actually tested, and I don't actually have the time and inclination to maintain this theme anymore (especially when Tango + gnome icons are so nice and complete in my opinion), as I mentionned at the top of this page. So if anyone wants to pick up the ownership of this theme and fix it, drop me a line :) - Sep 04 2007
oh, that one was not a theme per se, it was the window borders from an old version of Compiz. Compiz now uses the metacity window border themes nowadays, so you should look at this instead: - Aug 21 2007
there you go: - Aug 21 2007
actually, I had the blue "striped" folders from OSX but they looked pretty crappy and hard on the eyes. I think they still are in the icon theme if you want them. See them in:

"OSX/scalable/places/original folders" - May 22 2007
... give you what? - May 15 2007
well since the source material is in PNG, converting to SVG does not make sense - May 06 2007
slipttees, I did not intend to "fight", I just did not want users to be confused by two icon themes with the same identical name.

I just sent you a message about this, maybe you could actually maintain this icon theme. - May 06 2007
uh, now that's a pretty strange thing, because it works fine with me. Does it give any errors in the terminal? What version do you use? etc. - Mar 20 2007
Kiba dock is crap! Use Avant! ;-)
(half joking. Sorry I can't help you, but I seriously believe kiba is crap compared to AWN though) - Mar 17 2007
I re-uploaded a fixed version of 3.3 (new md5sum: fa4eda9c112acc51de2ee34e6174f2c3). I think it should fix the trash icon for real now.

I also added a dependency on hicolor and removed the gpm battery icon.

About the trash not being transparent on the panel: sorry but that's most likely a bug on your side, mine (gnome 2.18 though) works fine with the transparent background. - Mar 16 2007
hmmm... my guess would be that gnome commander does not handle icon themes properly, did you try filing bugs on that? - Mar 15 2007
thanks for the tip, I kicked myself in the butt to make a new release (3.3) today :) tested on Ubuntu Edgy and Feisty.

Message for stimpie: if possible, could you please mirror the file on your server? that would be great :) - Mar 15 2007
Yeah, the problem is that I have pretty much no time to update the theme :| if someone can make patches though, I would gladly accept them o_o but it could take a long time before I kick myself in the butt to do it alone as school keeps me busy. - Mar 11 2007
Huh, are you sure? I am running ubuntu Edgy and Feisty and all those mimetypes show up correctly O_o - Mar 07 2007
I can't reproduce your problem, I tried on a 7.04 Feisty Fawn vmware box (but I'm pretty sure I tried on edgy too).

I opened the gnome-theme-manager, clicked the "install new theme" button and chose my tar.gz file. It worked without any problems :| What's that symbols thing you are talking about? - Feb 11 2007
huh? what Toby site? besides, there are three links if one of them fails. - Dec 21 2006
I don't know how to make firefox themes at all (and I use epiphany, which is the official gnome browser and uses my icons natively), but you are welcome to use those icons to make a theme for Firefox if you want :) - Dec 13 2006
Sorry for not replying sooner, gnome-look wouldn't let me. Well thing is, I have never made themes for KDE, and I don't know if they follow the freedesktop "standard", if they do, it should work with KDE - Nov 28 2006
Hmmm. GNOME must have changed the naming stuff again in 2.16. If I look at /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/places and status, I can see the trash can as "user-trash" and "user-trash-full". I guess I will have to make another release sometime soon to fix the list of bugs that accumulated. If I'm lucky enough I could try doing that during christmas holidays, but I make no promises :| if you find other bugs though, please list them! - Nov 02 2006
Hmm. did you try redownloading it? Or the mirror? Or opening the archive with file-roller and extracting it in ~/.icons? - Oct 29 2006
Well it's mixed, some icons do not come from the mac OS. Apple put a copyright on its icons (from my googling), but I did not extract them directly from a mac myself. I only took them from other existing themes (on - Oct 15 2006
Hm. Kind of forgot to answer the question. If you want to use them, no, I do not (and cannot) charge a fee. You don't need (and should not ;) link back to me. Your decision to use them or not is up to you and should be for personal use (anyway the Big Fruit would be angry at you if it's on a commercial website I guess). - Oct 14 2006
I think these are not "my" icons :) I can't restrict your use, but be aware that these are artwork *very* *cough* similar to Apple OS X's icons. - Oct 14 2006
I see! Well if you want to, that would be nice. The more mirrors the better I guess ;) I'll remove the tobias link. - Oct 13 2006
Sorry for the late reply! For the wallpaper, just search for Greg Martin. He's the artist that does a lot of planets it seems :) - Aug 11 2006
This clock is Macslow's cairo clock. It works well only if you use a composite manager such as compiz which runs on XGL or AIGLX. - Jul 30 2006
Yeah well I'm kind of waiting for a better proposal for folder icons :| something that is easy on the eyes and all. - Jun 19 2006
I have a feeling this is because your GNOME version might be older (mine is 2.14.1), I think it's a deprecated standart. The new ones don't have the gnome-mime gibberish. - May 15 2006
The recent-documents icon: I will try to look into it and fix it, but I don't know which one it is. May take a little while. The "packed" icon: what is that? The "opendocument" icon? What is that? All my od* files have a proper icon.

I am running Dapper Drake, by the way. - Apr 02 2006
Well, if anyone is interested in providing a mirror so I can make sure it doesn't do that? :) - Apr 01 2006

dude, this theme is impressive. It looks unique/distinctive, sleek, and it's compatible with everything I threw at it.

I would heartily recommend that you talk to Andrea Cimitan and see if your theme could be an official theme included by default in gnome. It has potential to rock.

I am using the clearlooks-only version, haven't tried the murrine svn one. - Sep 26 2008

it's a nice theme. I would recommend using a tar.gz archive format instead of tar.bz2, that way users can use the "Add" button in gdmsetup to install directly from the archive.

Converting from bzip2 to gzip by using file-roller's "Save as" feature worked for me. - Apr 14 2008

actually, I was also suggesting to not have an archive inside another archive... Is the readme that important (since you can put those infos here or on your page)?

If you only provided kamel.tar.gz (the one that is inside the current archive you distribute), users could just "drag and drop" in the theme/appearance window (or use the "install" button). - Nov 02 2007
Hello, thanks for making a 0.2 release today! I just wanted to say that your package has a bug, an icon theme folder name must not contain spaces. Doing this will fix the problem:

jeff@kaname:~/.icons$ mv Kamel\ alpha\ 0.2/ kamel

So, your package should contain ONLY a directory named "kamel" with the index.theme and the "scalable" subdirectories. That way, it will be handled properly by the gnome appearance manager. - Nov 02 2007
I am looking forward to trying your icon theme. Go go go! :) - May 25 2007

Did you consider proposing those wallpapers to be included per default in GNOME? I believe they are of exceptional quality and look stunning. - Apr 15 2007

it looks nice overall, just want to point you that tabs in certain applications such as Epiphany (GNOME's default web browser) look a bit weird, but this is alpha, and I guess you knew that bug existed already. Also, as soon as I use the themes, my gnome panel flashes as it kinda tries to restart itself infinitely; maybe that's because I did not use the Menu Bar Trick? Hope this helps you. Cheers! - Jan 02 2007

good, I like it :) however, there is a strange issue: I found the thumbnail "better" than the full size one.

Maybe that's because in the thumbnail you can't see the fresnel effect.

What I'd like to see would be a version made out of it that would be "smoother", with less contrasted elements, and possibly in blue, brown, orange too. I don't know how it would look like. For example, currently there is a stripe near the middle-left that is very very bright, it's slightly disturbing, maybe that's just me. - Dec 17 2006

my thanks, your theme is truly awesome. It's classy and fast, and it makes my menus huge ;) (good for some beginners on whose computers I install Linux). It's brighter than Clearlooks so it's a bit less depressing, but it is a bit hard for the eyes, being so white. Oh well, it's a world of contradictions! - Nov 24 2006

Generally good, but here are a few criticisms:
- "dapper drake" is written: it does not mean so much, and in six months, your wallpaper will be useless
- if you still keep it, I suggest maybe something other than plain yellow, it's out of phase with the ubuntu palette (brownish, orange) and with the blue background...

Great potential though! - Mar 31 2006
