Description:

Blended is a simple theme designed to blend in with the menu bar to create a smooth appearance.

The theme was designed with the Clearlooks GTK2 theme in mind, but works well with other themes that have plain menu bars.

Inculdes 4 theme variations:

Blended ( Top corners rounded)
BlendedDoubleRound (Top and bottom corners rounded)
BlendedSmall (Smaller window butons)
BlendedSmallDoubleRound

--------------NOTE--------------
If you want all 4 variations make sure they are all coppied to your themes folder as at least for me installing through theme preferences only installs the last theme.

This is one excellent theme! But there is one thing which bugs me with usability: It is hard to distinguish between focused and non-focused windows. I have an idea which could work, granted if metacity can kind of "control" the clearlooks colours. Have it so unfocused windows are darkened as well as the GTK+ part. Somewhat like your picture preview shows.

If it already does this with 1.6, I'm all for downloading it! But I'm guessing that pic just illustrates how it integrates well now with darker GTK+ themes.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

There seems to be a lack of dark hued themes in general. This one looks and feels really good.

Thanks for sharing.

I really like the smooth look from the menubar to the toolbar, and the lack of coloured 'tips' on tabs like on XP clone themes.

I'm using the QtCurve unified theme to achieve consistency between Gtk1/2 & Qt applications, and I've trimmed off the sides of the blended theme to make it look a little 'lighter', but your look is really very similar to my desktop right now, except better. :)

If I wasn't constantly using applications that use different toolkits, I'd switch to your theme in a second.

Go the fully blended themes!

I really like this metacity theme. Is there a way to have the buttons pick up the GTK themes color in the buttons only, Not the whole window frame?? I use it anyway cause its cool. But it would be neat if the buttons pick up the color of the menu highlight so say if mine is blue the buttons are a blended blue and grey instead of just grey. Am I making sense?

This reply is more than a little late (so I know you may never see this), but I figure that more than just you would be interested in this. I fiddled with this sort of idea myself, but because of the large variation in selection colours (brightness and saturation) it's unlikely there'll be a setup that looks good for all themes. That's why the focused buttons are fixed as white. I might look at this again sometime, but anyone is welcome to give it a go if they like.

I love this theme, great work. The only problem with it and this is only my opinion of course, is non focused windows, I can't see the buttons. I'm forever minimising or closing windows when I wanted one or the other, having to click on the window to focus it before selecting a button is a pain :(

I can tell you you're not the only one with this point of view because I share it as well. I think the windows look a bit nicer without the buttons, however I understand that not being able to see them is not helping the usability of the theme. I've posted a third screenshot labeled work in progress and it shows some of the changes I am planing on including. The only other change that isn't shown in the image is pressed buttons look slighty etched. Any feedback is appreciated, let me know if you like the buttons for the unfocused windows.

Have ever tried 'Select windows on mouseover'? I remember when I first tried it years ago, I found it weird, but after getting used to it I find much more productive/useful and can't stand to have it any other way.

I enjoyed the inactive windows not having buttons, but I understand why they must be there for those that like 'click to focus'.

I also would like to thank you for the rounded versions. I know that is time consuming and you did a great job...it looks great!

How do I install this theme?

How to install

1) Open the theme manager. If you don't know where it is then run: gnome-theme-manager in the terminal.
2) Click "Install Theme", browse to where you downloaded the file and click "Install"
3) A dialog should popup telling you the theme was correctly installed
4) Click on "Theme Details" then "Window Border" and choose the theme.
5) You may have to restart the theme manager for them to show up.

If the themes are not showing up or only one of them installed then:

6)Extract the file you downloaded to a convienient location
7)Copy the 4 folders to /home/your user name/.themes/
8)Open the theme manager navigate to window border as above and choose the theme.

If this doesn't help or something else is going wrong (ie themes not showing up even after following the above) post again or email me.

I can't explain how much I like to way you have implemented the close minimize and menu buttons. I'm not sure how much I like, that the border is faded into the window, but in windows with menus, it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the theme.

It looks great togheter with the gperfection-theme made by lookhead.

is there any way i can make the icon on the titlebar go away? it's not needed and it would look better out without.

don't change a thing in this theme. its perfect.

In the latest upload of the themes:

in the Blended folder there is a text file that explains how to remove the icon from the title bar (just a few lines need to be replaced.) Just follow those instructions and you can have your themes without the program icon.

I won't be offering any versions without the program icon, as then I would have 8 versions of the theme, all with only slight differences. So if you really want the theme without the icon just follow the instructions (should take only a minute or two) and you're all set. :)
