Description:

DEPRECATED
Sorry. This splash screen is based on usplash, which is deprecated. It won't work on Ubuntu 10.04 or newer.

This is another version of the usplash theme fingerprint, working with the resolution of 1024 * 768.

Why another Version?
All the others did not work on my machine, so I customized the code and the pictures a bit and now it works.

How to install?
Just install the .deb package, install via ppa or compile the source code yourself

This Package is available in my ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~phylu/+archive/usplash-theme-fingerprint

Silent or Verbose?
To use the blue text box (screenshot 2) for some booting messages just delete the "quiet" on the boot entry in you menu.lst.

I found a Bug! What now?
Please leave a comment, with a description of the bug. Also post the boot-entry of your menu.lst, which linux distribution you use, and what version. The version of the fingerprint theme is also important.

PPA has changed!

Try downloading the Debian package with a download manager such as DownloadThemAll! or Aria. The first time I tried to download, I tried a regular download and the download got corrupted and I got the same message you got. The second time, I downloaded the Debian package with Aria, and I got it successfully installed.

I try to set up a lauchpad ppa until the next version. This should help to use this usplash without any problems.

You can try to download the source code. Then open a shell and change to the directory you unpacked the source.

Then type 'make' and the 'sudo make install'

But you need the usplash development package to do so (should be libusplash-dev).

Good luck...

And I'll do my very best to look if I can finde resolve the problem.

You shuld load up your screenshot anywhere, so I can see it.

You downloaded the .deb package? The .tar.gz achive only contains the source code.

Thank you for this!

It hadn't been working for me either... until you made whatever changes you did.

This new version works perfectly. I had only to install and it was good to go.

Fantastic job,Phylu. :)

Perhaps a problem in the menu.lst. Wrong resolution, no splash activated...

Can you post the boot entry from you menu.lst?

I'm sorry, but I can't see a mistake. Can you try the old version? I made it (the V0.1-1) on Hardy and it worked.

I tried all the links provided, but they all take me to a german site (I guess is german)...it's blank, one pop up commercial comes up, and I found this words at the bottom of the link...

bplaced.net Zugriff verweigert, Fehler 403. Sorry, access forbidden, error 403. - Impressum

I don't know what the german words mean, but I understand "access forbidden, error..."

Can someone help me out!

Hmm... I can't find a problem with the links. They should all work.

Try the download page on my homepage: http://phylu.bplaced.de/public/?page=fingerprint. You can switch the language (German or English) at the bootom of the site.

If even that doesn't help give me your e-mail and I will send you the package.

Hey, silly question but, does this work under 64bit? That shouldn't be an issue should it? I am asking because I'm running out of possible causes of why it's not working.

Report

I see no reason why it schouldn't work under 64 bit. But i have no possibility to try it.
What have you done to install, and what doesn't work exactly?

Open a console and type "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst" to edit the boot menu. Search for the first boot entry which should look like:

title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-11-generic
root (hd0,5)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-11-generic root=UUID=3c40ab0b-e9c4-4781-9027-3919804008bb ro splash quiet
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-11-generic
quiet

Add "vga=791" to the line kernel and "splash" if it isn't set.

Then download the latest .deb package and install it. That's it.

If it works then you can edit the default boot options in the menu.lst not to loose the settings.
Search for the line defoptions. It should look like
# defoptions=splash quiet vga=791

"title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic root=UUID=64f0112c-f326-48d7-950e-66b93216dd6e ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-9-generic
quiet"

that is my first entry. are the words 'quiet' equivalent to 'silent'?

on a separate note, I only get the display of this splash when shutting down, not on the boot menu.

Just edit the line kernel:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic root=UUID=64f0112c-f326-48d7-950e-66b93216dd6e ro splash

I know this sounds stupid, but how do you compile and install from source? When I run make, I get this:

theother1@ibex:~/Desktop/usplash-theme-fingerprint/debian$ make
make: Circular throbber_back.png <- throbber_back.png.c dependency dropped.
pngtousplash throbber_back.png > throbber_back.png.c
/bin/sh: pngtousplash: not found
make: *** [throbber_back.png.c] Error 127
rm throbber_back.png.c

Using 64 bit Ibex. Thanks for any help.
