Description:

This is a massively improved variant of the well-known Gartoon theme, used by e.g. Edubuntu. Some work may also be based on the Gnutoon/Ubuntoon variant by reassuringlyoffensive. The theme is released under GPL v2 or later.

In the context of GPL, "source code" is interpreted as the SVG versions of the icons; this means that if you distribute Gartoon Redux icons or any derivative versions of them, you have to provide the SVG versions.

This package is also available in Ubuntu, though it may be slightly out of date. To install it, simply run:

sudo apt-get install gnome-icon-theme-gartoon-redux

At the moment, only the source version is available. To install, unpack in a suitable directory and run the following commands in the terminal:

./configure
make
sudo make install

To speed this up, you can use "make -jN" as the second command, where N is the number of hardware threads in your processor (e.g. "make -j4"), so that more than one SVG is rendered at the same time.

Hi! The index.theme file should have a line "Inherits=Tango, gnome, hicolor, crystalsvg" to use these icon themes as fallback, if some icons are missing.

Yes, I somehow dropped this line from the index, it will be fixed in 1.4. BTW, hicolor is inherited by default, it doesn't need to be specified in this line.

OpenOffice.org is completely unthemable via standard means. There are hacky and very user-unfriendly methods, i.e. replacing the Industrial theme, but generally the only way to properly theme OO.o is to work with its developers and include your theme in the source tree of OO.o.

Thanks so much for the great theme. It looks great and has icons for everything!!

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how I could change the default folders to look like the blue folders from the Kamel icon set:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Kamel+icons?content=59006

I tried copying the kamel folder icons and replacing the gartoonredux "folder.svg" file and any others that look like they are used for the folder icons, and placed the new set in a folder in ~/.icons, but it didn't work. The icon folders just defaulted to some simple grey ones.

I am using Gutsy 7.10 -so compize

If anyone can help I would be so happy as my perfect desktop would be complete.

Thanks,

Devi

gartoon redux for firefox, is it possible???
thanks for this beautiful theme

Try downloading Firefox 3 beta, it uses GTK stock icons from your current theme, so it will show the Gartoon icons. Be sure to use at least Gartoon Redux 1.3 (fixed size icons are broken in previous versions).

It is also possible to theme GIMP using gtkrc files. It would mean looking around the source to find the list of the stock IDs it uses, but that's not a problem for me. If there is demand, I can start working on an icon set for GIMP. I have also done some preliminary work on fully theming gThumb.

+1 to working together. I'm managing this new effort in Launchpad under Ubuntoon. I've merged your changes.

It seems to me that my variant is a superset of Ubuntoon (at least when it comes to the number of different icons). Also I maintain fixed-size renders, so it would be easier to merge r.o.'s changes into my theme than my changes into his one (I'm in progress of doing this, and it'll be done in 1.3).

I think that you should work together with reassuringlyoffensive because there is very good things in
the both themes.
Union makes stronger, or something like that ^^
