I thought about your proposal, but in my opinion it's too specific adding an option such this in the customization script..probably would be used only by you!
However, if you want, I can tell you few commands to get this on your computer!

But still, it is definitely better solution to have distro-independent icon set instead of kinda Ubuntu-based one, don't you think?

However, I'm ready to change that myself once you tell me what should I do.

Thanks.

Yep. Probably this could solve the problem, even if I'm not sure.

Another thing you can do is configure the iconset as normal user, and then copy the awoken folder in ".icons" to the ".icons" folder of the root user.

However, glad you have solved by yourself!

But are you using awoken clear right? Nothing related to awokendark o some colored iconset?

Can you signal me an iconset in wich that icon is different? So I can recognize the right name from that iconset and find it in mine.. after a long time in wich I don't touch a part of my set, I forget names and these stuff! :(

Sorry for the late reply. Here's the newest: relinking from your previous post didn't work for a simple reason: synaptic is by default run in "super user mode", so relinking as common user obviously didn't have any effect on the problematic icon. But if I run synaptic as common user, not root, all is fine, the ubuntu icon is replaced with the debian one.

So, I guess I'll have to run config as root too to get icons corrected.

I thought about this.. maybe the best thing I can do is making this icon equal to the start-here icon.. So it will be quite consistent! What do you think about this?

However to do the fix, just type this:

cd .icons/AwOken/clear/128x128/actions
ln -fs ../places/start-here.png package-supported.png
cd ../apps
ln -fs ../places/start-here.png package-supported.png
cd ../../24x24/actions
ln -fs ../places/start-here.png package-supported.png
cd ../apps
ln -fs ../places/start-here.png package-supported.png

Does it works?

Report

The best thing in the long run would be if all distro-specific icons could be changed during configuration process so that they match distro specified in "start-here" step. Start-here would serve as kind of a trigger.

As for these commands you wrote, they did set links right (and I checked icons visually afterwards, everything was set), but nothing changed in Synaptic. I did log out, restart and change icons to an another set then back to awoken, still Ubuntu-ones there.

Hi,

I'm now trying out the icons in E17 and when I log out of E into the console I get this message;

Theme 'ubuntu-mono-dark' not found for AwOken.

Does AwOken have a dependency on other themes?

Obviously, as any other theme. You have to specify where system can take icons that are not included in the iconset.

PS: what is E17?

Here is a screen shot of Firefox;

http://img715.imageshack.us/f/awoken1.png/

Here is a screen shot of PCManFM-Mod File Manger;

http://img822.imageshack.us/f/awoken2.png/

The buttons are all grey, they should be different colors?

Here's a screen shot showing the video icon;

http://img7.imageshack.us/f/awoken3.png/

Is the install script just creating a
.AwOkenrc file, I would like to know how we clean out, uninstall what has been done if anything has been created in the $HOME directory.

I looked through my $HOME and all I could see that was changed was the .AwOkenrc file created, but if anything else is added or changed I'd like to be able to know how to remove it...

Keep always in mind that this is an iconset draw for GNOME, so a lot of things doesn't work because you use another DE.

Firefox: if the problem is in the tint2 panel on the bottom, I already told you the reason and you have to modify the icon by hand. The buttons' color can be modified using the script.

PacMan: if the problem is in the tint2 panel on the bottom, I already told you that I'll draw an icon for pacman. The buttons' color can be modified using the script.

Video: do you know an iconset that modifies that icon?

To uninstall, the only file you have to remove is the .AwOkenrc file.

I am using your script, but from what I can see for now the video-x-generic.png is not getting changed if that's the name of the one you are changing for the Video icon.

So the .AwOkenrc is the only thing being created? I guess what I can see is your script is just changing shortcuts, so at one time you are pointing to certain icons to have them load by these newly created shortcuts and when you pick a new look, then new shortcuts are made to load this new look, yes?

In PCManFM-Mod file manager I don't have any icons that can change the folders with the images. Do you know what Nautilus does to make this happen?

I know how to change the look of icons if Tint2 doesn't show them properly, I just want to have the icons look correct in PCManFM-Mod file manager is all. So far the only icon I see not working correct is for the video and the folders, which as you mentioned is for the file manager, the way Nautilus works...

Firefox and Thunderbird work ok, that was my mistake before....

Thanks for the iconsets, I'll see where is the problem. Could you be so kind to take a screenshot of that icon with one of those working iconsets? Thanks a lot!

One thing I want to underline: so you have admitted that my script works and works fine. So, the next time, don't write such a catastrofic message like "Please Explain Why A Script?", because people feel scared about it and start to write tons of messages asking why the script doesn't works and if there is any danger using my iconset, and replying to all of them is quite annoying!! :D

If with shortcuts you mean symlinks, you are right: my script uses a lot of those. This is done to remain little in dimensions but at the same time with a huge range of customizations. Using symlinks moreover prevents a lot of problems related to errors in the script or in the iconset.

For PacManFM: do you know any iconset (showing also it in a screenshot) that is able to use different folders in PacMan? Because for nautilus the only thing I have to do is to use official GNOME folder specifications, and it works! ;)

I just noticed too that my folders in PCManFM-Mod file manager are just plain, I don't get any of the images on the folders.

Here's a screen shot of my $Home in PCManFM-Mod file manager showing the 'Downloads' and 'Pictures' with no images on them.

http://img84.imageshack.us/f/awoken.png/

Is there a way using the PCManFM-Mod file manager to get folders to use the images on them for any of these folders you made, like the email, video, etc...?

Maybe pacman uses different folder specifications, so you have to tell me another iconset that doesn't have this issue.

PS: I see you have changed folder icons, so the script runs I think.. :P

I just copied by hand the wicd icons and backed up the original in /usr/share/pixmaps and when I loaded wicd the wicd-gui.png icon was not getting loaded it's still showing the original wicd-gui.svg.

Here's a screen shot you can see the original still being loaded;

http://img833.imageshack.us/f/screenshot02052011.png/

By the way the permissions on the wicd-gui.png and wicd.png were set to executable files so I changed them to 644.

How can I help you if you do things by hand and without using the options I provide?

Report

DasFox

8 years ago

Well I was looking at it trying to figure out the reason for it and I couldn't see any differences in a person placing the icons in ~/.icons and using .gtkrc-2.0 for a Window Manager or having them placed in /usr/share/icons for Desktops...

I used the script and it didn't do anything for me different then if I manually installed the icons and used the .gtkrc-2.0 in OpenBox

So I was at a loss to understand the script since it doesn't seem to be needed.

Also video-x-generic.png icon isn't working in OpenBox so I had to replace the icon in /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/mimetypes to make it work...

Also in Firefox, are all the buttons suppose to be grey, or should the Stop button be a different color, or any other ones be a different color too?

Also in a File Manager are all the buttons grey too? Because I had one time the New Tab button turn green for PCManFM-MOD but then it changed to grey.

THANKS

P.S. I posted here for others to read and comment on as well...
