This icon theme for Gnome provides monochromatic icons for panels, toolbars and buttons and colourful squared icons for devices, applications, folder, files and Gnome menu items.
An installation script let you choose the logo of your favourite distribution and the appearance of the main menu icon (Gnome/distrib, monochrome/colour).
Several themes are included to fit with light or dark panels, menus and toolbars.
Please read the README file for useful tips and known issues
Installation
Download the tar.gz file and extract it. In the new folder created, run the ./INSTALL script to choose the distribution logo (Ubuntu, by default) and the Gnome menu icon. If run as root, the script will copy the iconsets to /usr/share/icons to made them available to all users. Some default icons used by Rhythmbox and Dockmanager may be also replaced.
Run ./UNINSTALL as root to restore defaults icons.
Launchpad PPA
Faenza icon theme is available to install via a PPA repository. Open a terminal and run :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme
Faenza-Darkest/actions/16/xfce-system-exit.png
Faenza-Darkest/actions/16/xfce-system-lock.png
Faenza-Darkest/actions/16/gnome-lockscreen.png
Faenza-Darkest/actions/16/system-shutdown.png
Faenza-Darkest/actions/16/system-lock-screen.png
which are all links to the dark Faenza icons even though there are these icons in Darkest:
actions/16/system-shutdown-panel.png
actions/16/lock.png
Next thing in Darkest is that Nautilus's toolbar, mintMenu, GNOME menu and probably many others use places icon for their home icon, not the one in actions. I solved this by creating links "places/.../user-home.png" (and a few more links in that directory linking to that link) to "../../actions/.../go-home.png" for sizes 16,22,24. Larger sizes were not present (intentionally?) so I linked instead to the appropriate files in the icon theme it is supposed to inherit from (Faenza).
And one more thing, which probably is related to all 3 themes, is that I have my buttons set up to show icons on them. I mean the buttons like those "Delete", "Save As...", "Customize...", "Install...", "Help" and "Close" in GNOME Appearance Preferences's theme selector. This is OK only if the controls use the 16x16 icons only (like Mint-X) but after switching to Clearlooks controls, which show slightly larger icons, I noticed that the Help and About buttons have different icons. So I found that only 16x16 versions of help-about and help-contents are present. All the other sizes are just images that are duplicates of help-browser and gtk-info, respectively. This looks a bit weird particularly when other icons, like close, stay the same.
But apart from that I love the icons. They are beautiful.

The shutdown-manager and logout-manager now have strangely mixed icon styles. Also, the volume icon in Rhythmbox is that of Faenza-Darkest while using Faenza-Dark. See: http://i.imgur.com/jrUtm.png
Meanwhile, is there any place I can download the previous version of these icons?
Nevertheless, thank you for your work and this amazing icon pack.

Something you may have overlooked are the 16×16px network strength icons. These are still black.

- for xfce-notes-plugin : you could add a symbolic link to tomboy-panel.png, in /status folders ;
- for xfce-clipman-plugin : I don't know how other clipboards managers are handled by Faenza-Dark, but my clipman applet display a black icon (probably actions/edit-paste.png), which does not look good on a dark panel (like the Equinox one). Maybe there's some trick with symbolic links you can pull out to use the Faenza-Darkest white icon for the panel, without changing the paste icon on all toolbars. The Elementary-mono-dark theme uses a /panel folder, but that may not be 100% standards-compliant.

Just my 2cent but I think the Nautilus icon would look more stylish if it flowed out of the frame on a couple sides like the current firefox icons do... or if it was zoomed way in on the center of the shell, falling out of frame on all sides, kinda like your original firefox icon did.
Anyways, keep up the good work. It's pretty impressive.

Thanks for this great icon theme! After updating a few days ago, there's a missing notification icon for empathy im. Is it possible to fix this?
Also the new icon for empathy doesn't look as good as the former one.

I wanted to let you know, that I love your icons and that I am going along with them for quite a while now. So I would like to know, if there will also be a package for Ubuntu natty??? This would be great.
So please continue this nice ppa-repository (yes, I use your ppa-repsotory here in LinuxMint ubuntubased) also for the future distros of Ubuntu. This would be nice from you because I don't want to miss your icons!!!
Greetings
Karmicbastler
edit: I also sent you an email referring to this.

You have to modify two files: /usr/share/applications/guake.desktop and /usr/share/applications/guake-prefs.desktop

*libreoffice(or ooo) starter icon (it's easy, just changing color of one of them ),
*linker gnomebaker to burner icon,
*netbeans icon color look different.
http://www.cgshader.com/sites/cgshader/files/jogl/series/NetBeansOpenGLPackLogo160_0.png
This type of color would be nicer.
*I think older chrome icons better.
*inkscape and gimp icons look similiar at first glance. You can use more black in inkscape.
That all I had.

When using Faenza-Dark, the panel icon for parcellite is the black icon from the Faenza theme, instead of a white one.

Could you investigate into this? I'd be happy to test changes if you don't use gnome-shell.
