Migrate to new coloring architecture

Hi Everybody,

The highlight of the moment is 0.7.7. Yo can download it from GitHub. A link is provided above. If you have anything to say about it, please post here or even better on GitHub. Be warned, it is still in the testing branch. If you want to see it in stable branch you can help by testing and feedbacking.

Thank you

Thank you

Hi again CM,

When to expect 0.7.7 frozen and tossed into stable branch?

Thank you

Nothing yet. I haven't had a chance to pull the repo down.

Hi Bluedxca93,

You are a thinker like myself. I would value a word from you.
Any insights?

Thank you

Hi CM,

Please don't skip this post and read attentively to the end 'cause I've put a lot of brainpower into it. The hardest was to extract just the essential. There it goes:

1. The development model is very important. If for no other reason it can spare you from a lot of frustration in the future but not unless you get it right from the beginning.

2. Debian has 3 branches (unstable, testing, stable) and not without good reason.

3. Your model has 2 branches: a two in one branch (unstable and testing fused together) and a stable branch. This model might work just as well but l have some doubts.

4. In your model the version number is rather generic encompassing a bunch of DEs. Putting a lot of DEs in the same bag increases complexity and might lead to headaches.

5. If unstable and testing are fused together, it means that you're doing feature upgrades an debugging in the same branch and that may lead to unpredictable headaches as well.

6. You need a lot of feedback from testers before finally you can call it a freeze and toss it into stable branch. In your model you'll be getting feature and bug feedback concurrently and that might be overwhelming.

7. Whatever the case, you should give it enough time and testing in order for it to mature. Otherwise it's not worth tossing it into stable branch.

8. I don't see a lot of core feedbackers (feature or bugwise) but a herd of congratulators myself included.

9. Seemingly, at this very moment feedback is pending. Probably the switch to Git is a factor in that.

10. It will take a while before some feedbackers will realize that 0.7.6, as is, is in frozen state and declared stable. Also many will realize rather late that the focus is now on 0.7.7. And people a message: it's on GitHub! I've only seen 1 feedbacker on Git. So not a lot of pulse yet there. You should not close the forum or whatever the thing is on Gnome Look for now but you should spell it out in bolds that there is a thing on Git and its name is 0.7.7. So everybody needs a bit if time to cross over to Git.

11. Hello World! 0.7.7 is on GitHub. You can download it from there and you can still feedback about it on the Gnome Look. It's understandable that some of us don't fell at home on Git just yet and please count me in.

12. No offence whatsoever was intended in this post so please take it lightly. After all just well intended suggestions. Some of them are probably not that important if not downright stupid. But hey, I'm just modestly trying to help.

By now CM you've probably fallen asleep with boredom, so I'm going to have some coffee now.

I'll take some time to explain my way of working.

1,2,3 : I don't plan on having a structure like Debian since this project isn't that big. Like I said before, I have the Testing in a folder 'cause I already messed up Github once.

4 : When I release a new version, the modifications to the different DEs can be seen in the changelog. If I was to create a copy of the theme for each different DE I probably would drop the work due to its complexity.

5 : I don't see why people would try out the Testing if they want a stable version

6, 7 : When I modify specific DEs themes, I always try it out before pushing it public. If other issues arise, I fix them in next version.

8 to 11 : No comment

12 : It's not stupid, it's your vision of managemenet. Maybe you would be interested in collaboratin in a more active way?

Hi again CM,

Thank you for making those things clear to me. I've got the whole picture now. I'll adjust my posts accordingly. Sorry if I've annoyed you in the slightest but I needed to understand.
I've also taken note of the more active collaboration part.

Thank you

Please tell: how 0.7.7 is reflected in Cinnamon?

Is Cinnamon theme 0.7.7 the same as Cinnamon theme 0.7.6 but completely bug free? When you say unstable I cannot figure out which part of the package is that. Those version numbers are generic. The version numbers encompass a lot of DEs.

Hi CM,

Debian's concepts of unstable, testing and stable are clear to me and make sense.
You on the other hand, have lost me in the fog. Maybe I'm ignorant and stupid like no other but I don't get it.

I have uploaded a testing folder wich features, for a short time, "TP" versions for testing. For now. If you want an explanation on the structure, here it goes :

1 - Master branch/Windows 10 Themes : Stable releases of the themes
2 - Master branch/Testing : Preview of next version for a short time.

I'm searching for a way to start a blank branch and maybe then I'll organize this better

Master branch as it is right now seems testing to me. Do you really need another testing branch or rather stable branch?

Try to look at Debian's branch structure. Maybe that would help. Just an idea. Branch or no branch I like your work a lot.

Hi CM,

It seems to me that you're thinkering over your development strategy and until you figure it out no more releases.

Direct Question: Am I right or am I wrong?

Report

C

not really, I just hit a bug in Xfce and I was trying to fix it (wich I just did :) )

Report

Yeah, I known that from Git and also about the testing branch stuff.

We kinda are between two worlds right now.

Just another Direct Question and we're donne for now:

Any bugs left in 0.7.6 on Cinnamon (according to your system)?

+Thanks Elbullazul, I've enjoyed many of your themes ever since I started using Linux (Mint) over a year ago after finding the Boomerang site. I see you've fixed the title bar in Firefox issue with this release, thanks! You had replied in Boomerang Dark that it would get a Metacity rework too and I was wondering if you had any plans for some others like Aero, Jade, Embedded, Homestead, Royal Dark, and Zune? I don't really mean to heap more work on you, but they are all great themes! That's fair if not supported anymore. Thank you again..
