Description:

I tried to port a great GTK theme XLiquid to work with GTK 2.x applications. I like to have a unified looking desktop.

Please test it if it looks good.

Thanx
Michal

I'm using kde 3.1 and I cant find anything that looks like "Import GTK theme" button. I opened up Control Panel, then Appearances & Themes (in 3.1 Look & Feel got renamed to this), then styles, and the only thing there is a list of styles to choose from and an example of the style chosen below that, and Effects and Miscelaneous tabs for the style you choose.

Understandable. KDE doesn't have a GUI for GTK themes because it doesn't use GTK. Make a directory in you home directory called .themes and extract the tarball in there. Use the commands gtk-chtheme or switch2 to change to the theme.

The theme will only be applied to GTK apps; i.e. not KDE apps but things like Firefox.

I would really like to use round pushbuttons, but I don't know how to use round BUTTONS and the same time square "column" boxes - see screenshot 2. Anybody can explain this to me?

...Hi sorry for taking sooooo long to reply. I have received your email, I just haven't had time to respond yet, sorry :-(

Anyway as to having different pixmaps for column headers and buttons - this can be done in the gtkrc file. Have a look at the gtkrc-template files that come with Geramik (look at "ListViewHeader", and "ToolbarButton") - it took me a long time to get these right. I'd suggest you just borrow the gtkrc stuff from Geramik, and add your own pixmaps. What I'd do is just use Geramiks pixmaps, and replace then one by one with XLiquids - you'll find stuff like the frame-border pixmaps can be re-used. Also, as the GTK2 engine can handle transparency in pixmaps, you might want to ask mosfet for the pixmaps he uses in liquid.

Hope this helps.

Found "Geramik" on this site. Now I know how it's supposed to work.

I tried to install this with kde 3.1.

After reading the install instructions, I note that the menus have changed. However, when I find the "Add theme" section, and attempt to add this theme, I get a complaint that there is no themerc file.

It seems there must be something obvious here that I'm missing. How can I try this theme with kde 3.1?

The main problem with this theme is that your push buttons are square - whereas liquid's are round. Any chance you could change these?

Also, you could try using the QTPixmap engine that comes with Geramik to re-colour your widgets to follow KDE's colour scheme. To do this, do the following:

1. Save all pixmaps as greyscale
2. Change 'engine "pixmap"' with either 'engine "qtpixmap"' (GTK1), or 'engine "qtpixmap2"' (GTK2)
3. To get a pixmap recoloured to a KDE colour add 'file_color = "button"' to the 'image' section ("button" can be button, window, text, selected...)

I have though about adding a Liquid style theme to the Geramik source, but currently I'm trying to improve Blue/FreeCurve (i.e. get it to use KDE colours, fonts - and better style matching between KDE/Qt).

If you'd like help porting XLiquid to QTPixmap, then let me know...

Thanx for the tips. I will correct the buttons this way.

I'll read some stuff about QTPixmap themes and update this theme.
