Description:

This is the original Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope (9.04) GDM Login screen but with an added face browser (the way it should have been). Buttons, Colors, Art are all the original ones from the release.
Install:
1. Download.
2. System-> Administration-> Login Window.
3. Goto the "Local" tab at the top.
4. Make sure Theme is set to "Selected only".
5. Click "Add" button.
6. Select downloaded tar file and click "Install" button.
7. Click radio button for "Human Jaunty-Face".
8. Close.
Next time you login to Ubuntu, it'll look like it originally should have!

vote this 'good' please! :)

1.0 - added face browser.
1.01 - cleaned up xml file with better commenting. edited gtk so active list colour highlight is more readable on computers that are using a different theme than clearlooks.
1.02 - edited gtk a little more now that i've learned a little more about it. works better with all themes now. probably a final release unless anyone comments with a specific problem to fix.

system menu...preferences...about me.
click on the picture square and pick your picture. standard size is 96x96 pixels. anything bigger than that will look weird.
just got back from vacation. will work on the text field length this week.

Thumbs up for doing this! I baffles me why the little bit of extra effort wasn't taken for Ubuntu 9.04 to have this included by default.

Hey again,

How do suggest we resolve the problem where a user's "name" is too long?

Especially if there's a picture associated with the account, the name only shows about 10 characters, then is cut off. (doesn't look pretty)

I wouldn't mind having a go at it. Can you please let me know how to download the source, and how to apply changes? (I've never done any dev on GDM before...)

yeah, np.
just dl the tar. extract. then you can edit it using HumanJaunty-Face.xml
i tried to comment the file as best i could. if you are confused what any lines are for just ask me.
once done, just re-tar the folder and install it as a gdm theme.
do not rename filenames within the folder without first editing the GdmGreeterTheme.desktop file which tells gdm what files to load. (wouldnt recommend doing that).
im totally self taught and have only made 2 gdm themes so im no expert.

Hey!

Is it possible to have a default user automatically selected?

Example. My system has two user accounts, "fermulator" and "guest". 97% of the time, I'm using my own system, so I'd like "fermulator" account automatically selected, and on boot, I need only enter my password. If a guest happens to want to use the system, no problem, they click guests.

Any idea if this is possible?

as far as i know, this isnt possible with ubuntu's facebrowser. in any case this would be a setting in ubuntu and not in the gdm theme. hopefully they add this capability cuz i think it would be handy as well.

perhaps the answer is not particular to this GDM theme, but more general: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7367929
