Description:

This is a set of GDM's/Wallpapers made to match my GTK themes "Shiki-Colors" and my icon themes "GNOME-Colors".

There are 7 versions included: (Brave/Blue, Human/Orange, Wine/Red, Noble/Purple, Wise/Green, Dust/Chocolate and Illustrious/Pink)

The GDM themes have a max resolution of 2140x1200 and support all 16:9, 16:10, 5:4 and 4:3 screen ratios or anything in between. Sources for a Dual-display 3840x1200 version are included.

Must read, or clowns will eat you:
* To install GDM's, extract .tar.gz file, drag n' drop desired themes to the login preferences window, or run make install as administrator in the extracted folder. For more options, type make help.

* To use the included wallpapers, save them wherever you like and add them through GNOME's appearance preferences or run the make install command and they will appear there.

* If you replace the logo.png files, you can change the logo of the GDM's to your favorite Linux distribution's branding.

* If you replace the "bg.png" files, you can use any wallpaper you want! (in fact, I recommend it if you don't like the included backgrounds, or want the GDM's to feature your favorite wallpaper).

* In Ubuntu, you can use the official PPA repository for easy installation and upgrades. For Ubuntu Karmic Koala, you can simply run apt-get install arc-colors to install from Ubuntu's universe repositories. The packages are also available in Debian Sid.

* Visit the GNOME-Colors project page for bug reports, feature requests, SVN and more downloads:
http://code.google.com/p/gnome-colors/

* Consider donating a small amount to the GNOME-Colors project if you wish to support it, or to show your appreciation. You can do so by clicking on the "donate" button next to the download section.

Very nice theme, though if you could tell what's the original name of your login background here http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/925/danbooru.jpg , it seems i can't find it in the tarball.

That's just an example to show you can use any of your personal wallpapers with the GDM's by replacing the bg.png file.

You can get that wallpaper here:

The time in the top-right shows the right time when the GDM screen loads, but doesn't update. It works fine in the panel.

Help?

I think it's a GDM issue. I just tested every other theme with a clock I could find, and the minute didn't change with them either.

Perhaps it's only possible to post the time at login, but not update it.

I just tried it with the 'Human faces' theme and it seemed to be working there.

I just uploaded a new version. The clock should now work correctly, but please try it out just in case.

You're right. The issue happened with other third party themes I tested, but I didn't test Ubuntu's default ones. It seems they use a special ID tag for the clock, so I'll add that and update the themes with the proper fix later.

Thanks for reporting this issue!

What specific part of the main window do you think could be improved? In what sense?

I mean about some reflections for borders, and please replace the pure black #000 border...
I'll point you to a WB theme for XP, so you just take a look and consider if you got to do something or not :)

Here it is:

Well, it's not a pure black border. The borders and gradients' colors are all designed to look the same as the Shiki-Colors' metacities, which these GDM's are meant to complement.

Any changes as drastical as the ones you recommend would be better suited for another GDM theme.

It would be nice if you would add the link to lock-dialog theme http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Arc+Colors+lock-dialog?content=99783 in download section.

Thanks for your work on the lock dialogs! I will give them a try and add to the download links later.

Not really a lot of my work there.. it is based on New wave lock-dialog by dilomo and a huge chunk of work done by SSulvkors ))

I love this theme, but I also really dig having a face browser in the GDM-theme, so ppl like my wife can just click a face instead of having to type a login name. I'd love a version including a face browser!

Face browser/UserList version is now available!

Report

hmm it would be very useful if the input boxes where *under* the face list (not on the right). so you can just press the up/down arrow keys to get to your name. and i think it would look better... what do you think?
however, thanks for you great work!

Also, if anyone can test other languages it would be helpful. I don't know wether the current setup can accomodate the words "user" and "password" if they are much larger in other languages. In that case, the password input box should be made smaller and moved a bit to the right.

Report

I thought so as well, but there was simply no space.

If I make the userlist box any smaller, it would accomodate much less users without scrolling (Right now it should do 3 users with pictures or 6 users without pictures).

Also, I can't really make the main box any larger to accomodate that change, since then users with small netbook displays would be left with a box that completely fits or is larger than their screen.

Oops, the comment above was meant for the previous poster.

Anyway, regarding the face browser - I still haven't come up with a design that looks good to me, along with some other list item color complications. If I ever get around these issues, I'll post a face-browser version.

You can open the "Arc-GDM.xml" file in a text editor and change the size or fonts to your liking. For example, instead of "Sans 8" you can use "Sans 10", etc.

I don't really know much about GRUB, but with color and resolution limitations there's not much I can do yet - these wallpapers look terrible when indexed (I noticed as such when I tried to make a Usplash set but 256 colors just won't cut it)

These walls, together with the rest of your theme, as I've said before form an extremely complete, well-polished set.

2 things, however, don't exist yet. A Usplash screen and a GRUB background.

I've been playing around with Arc-colours walls and trying to make them work as a GRUB background. Unfortunately, word has it that GRUB can display no more than 14 colours and a maximum resolution of 800x600 which kinda ruins any hopes for the current wallpapers.

I can get the whole image to display in GRUB, but it scales it down (badly) to 800x600 and craps up the colours.

So, your walls are too lovely for GRUB to handle. But some Usplash themes to match Wine/Wise/Human/Brave are definitely something you should look into. And add into your automagic install script too.

Then it's only a matter of time before GRUB devs implement better theming, and then, you'll have yourself a very full, consistent theme.

Keep up the good work!
