Description:

This is a set of GDM's/Wallpapers made to match my GTK themes "Shiki-Colors" and my icon themes "GNOME-Colors".

There are 7 versions included: (Brave/Blue, Human/Orange, Wine/Red, Noble/Purple, Wise/Green, Dust/Chocolate and Illustrious/Pink)

The GDM themes have a max resolution of 2140x1200 and support all 16:9, 16:10, 5:4 and 4:3 screen ratios or anything in between. Sources for a Dual-display 3840x1200 version are included.

Must read, or clowns will eat you:
* To install GDM's, extract .tar.gz file, drag n' drop desired themes to the login preferences window, or run make install as administrator in the extracted folder. For more options, type make help.

* To use the included wallpapers, save them wherever you like and add them through GNOME's appearance preferences or run the make install command and they will appear there.

* If you replace the logo.png files, you can change the logo of the GDM's to your favorite Linux distribution's branding.

* If you replace the "bg.png" files, you can use any wallpaper you want! (in fact, I recommend it if you don't like the included backgrounds, or want the GDM's to feature your favorite wallpaper).

* In Ubuntu, you can use the official PPA repository for easy installation and upgrades. For Ubuntu Karmic Koala, you can simply run apt-get install arc-colors to install from Ubuntu's universe repositories. The packages are also available in Debian Sid.

* Visit the GNOME-Colors project page for bug reports, feature requests, SVN and more downloads:
http://code.google.com/p/gnome-colors/

* Consider donating a small amount to the GNOME-Colors project if you wish to support it, or to show your appreciation. You can do so by clicking on the "donate" button next to the download section.

I'll work on a list version, but it will take some time since I've never made one.

I also think the instructions tooltip is somewhat annoying. It probably isn't necessary to have it since anyone with enough Linux experience to install this theme would be able to easily login without help.
Thanks for an otherwise AWESOME GDM theme!

Is there anyway you can shift the login box off-center? It's current centered position causes a dialog box to appear, because the mouse automatically rests on it. This basically ruins the GDM theme.

I actually find it quite helpful, since my computers are often used by guests or my family, which are both technically challenged groups of people. I actually get called over a lot less when using this GDM (at least when it comes to people who bother to read).

On the other hand, it would be good to have the option to disable it, but I don't know if that's possible. I guess a different position would be a solution, so perhaps I'll see if I can add instructions inside the file on how to do this on your own if you're bothered by it.

The "GNOME Colors-OS" and its icon in the upper left of the window seem a little odd, seeing as how all other objects in their respective corners have spacing, but it does not. Perhaps, it could get spacing, too?

Does this happen with the latest version, that says "Welcome" instead? I did some spacing fixes for that one. If that still looks odd, to you, I'll take a look and see if I can further improve it.

You could maybe release the included wallpapers separately just like your previous wallpaper pack ??

Report

A transparent version of the walls is also included in Shiki-Colors, so you could also try that for custom colors.

The wallpapers are available separately from the GDM's, they just happen to be in the same file. It's easier this way, since I don't have to manage two different pages/files when updating them.

Good work :)

I found 3 problems:

1. There is no "Exit" button when you login to another user.

2. Positions problem: http://smages.com/cf/82/cf82caf14be28e391f477c51ddc6da5a.png.htm

3. Localization not full (here I can help)

Thanks for the input!
I think I can improve the positioning and the "Options" translations.

As for the "GNOME-Colors OS", since it's a "brand" I think it should look the same across languages. Besides, I encourage people to change the GNOME-Colors text to match their distro's name (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc).

Um, what do you mean by 'Exit' button? Other than shutdown, etc I've never seen an exit button in a GDM. Would you care to elaborate?

Report

"Exit" button appears when you have multiple users on an one computer and want to login to another user. It's just exit from GDM if you change your mind to login.

Here 2 examples:

- standard Ubuntu GDM: http://smages.com/6f/79/6f79b295a34f75ea24b119a090ff1414.png.htm

- Somatic GDM (little crappy because low resolution) http://smages.com/c7/64/c764d3c84d420a5b8129d2e8392f6752.png.htm

About "GNOME-Colors OS": I'm not against it: just think it should be placed a little bit lower (in a horizontal center of "window tittle")

:)

OK, I made some improvements. The "Options" button is now localized, and it's also clickable. Since it's clickable, you can access any missing function as well!

I also tried to adjust positioning as much as I could for the things you mentioned, so please try again and let me know if this fixes your issues.

Thank you for your work! We have "Exit" button now :)

But it still have a problem with "Suspend" in russian: http://smages.com/fc/dc/fcdcee4bbf87a519227f842485c2f369.png.htm

By the way: I like new scrollbars in Shiki-Colors :)

I don't think I can separate the buttons from the text any further than I have already. You can try opening Arc-GDM.xml and replacing "<stock type="suspend"/>" for "<text>Shortened word for suspend in your language goes here</text>"

Perhaps another way would be making the font smaller? I don't really know how else to fix it right now.

I have an idea, but need some time to realize it. I'll give you know if it works.

Looks great yet it would be nice to have something a bit more distinctive from the KDE 4 wallpaper.

Also, don't you think the orange on the wallpaper is too bright/strong to be pleasing to the eye while working on the computer?

Other than that, great work. Should be considered for Intrepid Ibex.

I'm very uncreative when it comes to wallpapers, so for now, I just went with something pleasant and easily customizable. Perhaps if someone skilled in creating original wallpapers submitted work to the project I could replace them, but for now the kde4 modifications don't look too shabby.
