Description:

WE Ergo Blue GTK/Xfce port. Original theme for Windows XP is to be found at http://gelosea.deviantart.com/art/Watercolor-Emico-Ergo-Blue-88545593

My thanks to Gelosea for allowing me to port the theme.

Archive contains GTK2 theme (using pixmap engine) and theme for bmpanel2 (not compatible with version 1). Xfce panel is themed too, but due to its limitations it doesn't look as nice as bmpanel2.

Archive also contains patch for pixmap engine to enable mouse-over for menubar items and making disabled images grayed (instead of that ugly "dot effect") and some enhancements for GtkStatusbar (no more blured resize grip on windows resizing, shadow is drawn all over the statusbar).

Then there is patch for Thunar file manager to get the location bar as in the screenshot (url entry is shown when the icon is clicked on).

Applying the patches is not a must, but recommended. If you don't patch thunar, comment marked line in xfce.rc (line 12).

Created metacity theme. You shouldn't use too big font for windows title or it will break (I use 8pt bold @96dpi, it is ok with max 12pt@96dpi)

----

Themed gnome panel, set your panel to 26px for it to look properly. Note that I did only little testing, bugs possible. As with xfce panel, tray can't look like that in bmpanel theme.

Minor tweaking of bmpanel2 theme. Now you will get that horizontal line like that on the left of the tray even if tray applet won't load (eg. due to presence of other tray manager).

Some of the buttons are not right in Ubuntu 9.04... Like, they have no padding so they look bad. Not all buttons though. I was doing some research and it looks like maybe only buttons that are in a gtk frame or notebook maybe.

You should be able to see what I mean if you look at the "Add..." and "Remove" buttons on the Background tab in the Appearance Preferences window. That's just an example.

Other than that it's a wonderful theme. Best I've found so far. Great work!

You mean this (http://www.abclinuxu.cz/images/screenshots/0/1/91310-obrazky-pro-diskusi-37049.png)? Yes, they have less padding, not sure why. I will see what I can do ...

Just open your gnome-appearance-properties (right click on Desktop) and install the Theme via Drag and Drop. That's the easy way.

ee, this one doesn't only contain gtk theme and I don't think drag&drop would work. I suggest extracting the archive and copying the folder to ~/.themes, $GTK_DATA_DIR/themes or whatever directory gtk is configured to look for themes.

On Ubuntu 9.04 it looks different to the screenshots. Panel looks different, black text, and gray buttons.

It is bmpanel2 on the screenshot. If you use xfce4-panel, it is themed too - it looks similar to that on the screenshot except there is no "brighter part" at the right side, because there is no way how to do that (at least I don't know of any). Gnome panel is not themed different from "normal" widgets, it has background like any other window and buttons look like normal buttons.

If you want me to theme gnome panel too, I might try.

That would be nice. I had trying it myself but maybe I am to stupid for that. ;) btw: Good work!

I'm right now trying to solve a bug with HDMI output and I need to compile custom kernel, do some testing and I don't think I'll have time for this today. If you could wait a bit, till Monday or Tuesday.

Hey, I'm really sorry. I was quite busy, I have exams on Tue 8 so I promise that I will do that after I return from school.

For me, at least. I can't unpack the GTK2-part of the theme.

I like it :-) Thx!

There are symlinks in the archive, so make sure you don't unpack it on Windows or you use symlinks aware program (e.g. 7-zip cannot handle them, tar from cygwin can). Try "tar xf" on linux instead of GUI program if you use any.

And if you still cannot unpack it, you can try to download it from http://jardasmid.deviantart.com/art/WE-Ergo-Blue-133596765

could be the greatest, if u do some more work on it. it do not look finished and a it would be great if u include a metacity or emerald theme :)

No metacity, I don't have gnome and I don't want gnome libraries. But I used to have it and tried to make it, but it was piece of crap as metacity has bad support for "image themes".

No emerald, composite in X is piece of s*it, one big hack which makes everything you do slow.

But wait, you can always make it by yourself :-)

If I could I would :) But I can't :/

Metacity has better support for pixmap themes than Xfwm and pixmap themes are all Xfwm can do. You just have to know how ;-P

Anyway, great theme. The best and technically most complete Gtk pixmap theme I have seen so far. Though I find it to bright and I don't like the (excessive as usual, for GTK) spacing. And I'm not such a fan of Windows or other OSs theme ports, but I like this one. x-D

Thanks!

Well, I made it. But that xml stuff is really ugly :-)

Report

As ugly as 84 individual pixmaps? That are only tileable, not stretchable? ;-)

<rant>
I really don't feel the people responsible for Metacity and Xfwm (and Gtk) had themers (as opposed to themeing) in mind, when they added themeing support. Why is the easy stuff (from a themers perspective) so hopelessly complicated and more interesting stuff impossible?
