This is the complete Gnome port of the Alienware Darkstar Theme made for Alienware by the Skin Factory. The Bluestar and Greenstar Themes are based on the Darkstar Theme and its mostly just color changes. The Theme Package Includes:

1.) 3 Gtk2 and Metacity themes
2.) 3 GnoMenu2 Themes (Menus and Buttons) **Install script must be edit to auto install**
3.) Dungeon Font
4.) 5 Background Wallpapers
5.) padster's colorful-alien xsplash (much better than mine)
6.) Screensaver
7.) Icons se-interface, (Red, Blue and Green) and LaGaDesk-BlueNight
8.) Background for Nautilus
9.) usplash
10.) cursor theme X-Alien2-Dark
11.) OpenOffice Splash Screen by tuxkernel (Added per his request)
12.) Gimp Splash Screen

Now Includes a install script set.

Many thanks to nale12 whose original dark_star theme (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Dark_Star?content=110767) provided the foundation that I built this theme on.

Much appreciation for jameshardy88 whose encouragement, assistance and friendship helped me do this. This is my very first Gtk2 theme and I had no idea what I was doing or how to do it when I started. He explained to me what I needed to do and how to go about it. He also proved to me (I really did already know this) that MS is a highly chaotic Cluster F*** where there is NO standardization of naming conventions for anything. His tweaking made the theme much better and made it look a lot more like it was supposed to. He redid the frames and borders and fixed the sliders. He also added a couple of elements I completely missed. Plus getting the buttons to look a whole lot better. jameshardy88 also fixed the issues with the Bluestar version as for some reason after I made the color changes the sliders, progress bars and buttons did not work correctly. He got them working again.

The font is dungeon and to use it simple copy (or move) the font to your .font hidden directory in your home folder. If it doesn't exist then simply make it. You will need to install the font for the menu to work correctly.

Using juan2000's ideas I also added 'Network Tools' and 'System Monitor' commands to the menu but opted not to add the network connection command since its a bit redundant being that it is accessible in the Notification Area of the Gnome Panel. Instead, I opted to add the run command.

There are four backgrounds, including the Original Alienware Darkstar background. All are original works (not by me) made for Alienware and are freely distributable.

OpenOffice Splash Screen by tuxkernel (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Alienware+Openoffice+Splash+Screen?content=119468)

The GnoMenu theme is designed for the bottom panel, though it can be used from the top, because the alien head graphics and wording is integrated into the menu design by the Skin Factory they will appear upside down if used from the top panel.

The Icon sets are Se-Interface by MrSkope (Damian Strain) and ported to Gnome by Naf71 (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Se-Interface-V2+%28Red%29?content=118022). The LaGaDesk Icons are by LaGaDesk (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LaGaDesk-BlueNight?content=109343) The original Windows Icons for this theme are not available in PNG format. The creators of the Icons used a different type of file system unusable by anyone who does not have their program installed. This leaves Linux out completely in using the orignal Alienware Darkstar Icons.

The Sound files are two from the original Mandrake (Mandriva) Galaxy theme and if you have ever heard them before then you understand why I went and hunted them down for this theme. The rest are royalty free sounds I downloaded that worked well. I did not create a sound theme file and simply suggest you copy (I repeat COPY) the files in /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo, as root, to a backup folder then copy my included sound files into /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo, and over write the files with mine. Main reason is this will also replace the guady (and highly annoying) Ubuntu drum sound with a more pleasant female computer voice saying "Computer Ready"

The X11 cursor theme was originally made by JJ Ying (http://users.wincustomize.com/691873/) and coverted by KuduK (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/X-Alien2?content=117799)

Hi :)

First and foremost thank you for the theme. Actually, I'm honestly relatively new to Ubuntu and Linux that I'm not sure how to correctly put and install your theme. I just installed Ubuntu the day before yesterday and still getting used to it.

Anyway, I have already downloaded the theme and may I kindly ask how exactly it will look like the one in your screenshot? ^^;;

I only googled Alienware theme look for Ubuntu (having the reason that my other dual boot WinXP theme is also of Alienware look and I honestly want to keep it)

Thanks a bunch for the theme really :D

to install it all (by the different parts in the description):

1. right-click on the desktop and "change background" then go to "themes" and drag the gkt/metacity theme's tar.gz on the window to install it.

2. i think if u right-click on gnomenu it has settings or something, install the theme in that window.

3. open the font and click "install"

4. right-click on the desktop and "change background" then drag the picture onto the window.

5. run "sudo nautilus" and navigate to "/usr/share/images/xsplash", then replace the contents with what is in the archive for the xsplash.

6. i'm not sure, maybe go to the screensaver selection program and install it there.

7. same as part 1.

8. not sure about that.

9. install "startupmanager" with synaptic and add the .so file in there.

10. same as part 1.

by the way, that's cool that u used my xsplash. i was going to download this, and noticed my name :-)

i will try it for sure now :-D

Don't get insulted, but this theme doesn't have a soul. Gathered stuff from here & there. The description looks like the novel "Moll Flanders" by Daniel Defoe. No vote from me.That's all.

Wow what an original post. Are you going to say the same thing everytime I get another page of comments?

So far in a day and a half 676 people have downloaded it. I'm getting good votes so I must have done something right.

Long description means I'm giving full credit and all the information needed to use this package. Again I must be thinking about making it right by passing the correct information.

Most of the work in this package is my work. I made the usplash, the xsplash is based on another xsplash I made.

I put together the GnoMenu theme, the Metacity and Gtk2 themes, jameshardy88 tweaked them for me so they looked better, but he used my files I created when I ported the theme from a WBA file.

As cb2k has told you on other submitted works if you think you can do better, than do so.

Good job with this theme. Looks like you put some serious time and tinkering into this haha - I'm thankful people like you want to do themes, because I would hate it lol.

One question tho. Could you link me to the Se-interface.tar.gz font. It seems it wasn't complete in your file (it was only 4.0kb in size) and the Red version was 6.3mb (which works fine). Also.. for future reference - maybe include the paths/instructions to copy these theme/sound files? It'd save some people some trouble and get the theme loaded right up. Great theme and thanks man

I provided all the links and paths in the description. I'll look into the issue with the se-interface v1 icons. TY for bringing that to my attention.

how does the menu command work?

does it bring up the regular gnome-run? if so you dont need to compile extra software to acheive this, gnomenu already does this , just check out the xp menu it has a similar function
