Description:

This theme is aimed for people who just want a simple, fast and native interface with many color options. It's also designed with new linux users in mind, by providing simple, thorough instructions. A matching set of Wallpapers, GDM themes and Usplash screens can also be downloaded below.

There are four color variations (Orange, Blue, Green, Red) and TWO designs; light and dark. You can create even more color-schemes through GNOME's appearance preferences, using the included tango palette for color suggestions!

Important, must read or clowns will eat you:
This theme depends on the latest murrine engine SVN. I've compiled (Rev. 136, 01/23/09) MurrineSVN for Ubuntu Intrepid. You can get it by clicking on the correct package for your architecture:
i386: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?hidiztmmmye
AMD 64: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?g2axyi02gyo

- There is a legacy version for previous version of the Murrine engine (Ubuntu Hardy/Murrine 0.5.3.1)

- Inside the gtkrc files there are extensive line-by-line instructions and tips for customizing most aspects of the theme!

- GNOME-Colors are set as the default icons for the themes. Be sure to download them to get the full experience!

- This theme uses gradient panel backgrounds by default. If you plan to use Transparent/Custom panels, please disable my panels by editing either the gtkrc or panel.rc files like the included instructions tell you to.

- My X-Colors metacity borders are not selected by default, due to their non-conservative nature. You can choose them in gnome's appearance preferences if you wish to use them.

- Some linux apps are not too friendly to dark themes yet. It's up to their developers to improve this. Keep this in mind when using any dark theme.

- If you want root/super user applications to be themed, you must type in a terminal:
sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root

-This theme is not compatible with Murrine SVN.

- Feel free to try Clearlooks-Colors or Nodoka-Colors for alternate takes on this theme.

Please:
If you must vote down, or if there is something you dislike, leave a comment so I can improve it!

Thank you for your reply!

This can also do it as an alternative:
widget_class "*Panel*" style "clearlooks-panel"
widget "*Panel*" style "clearlooks-panel"
class "*Panel*" style "clearlooks-panel"

I don't know for Xubuntu, I don't use it.

I'll add those lines and test it in a Xubuntu live cd. thanks for the tip!

I usually use a panel height between 26 and 32 pixels, Could you possibly provide a version with larger panels or make it automatically adjust (I've seen this done, however I'm not sure how it is accomplished.)

Thanks

I've been working on a new version already, thanks for letting me know. I don't think scaling can be done, but I'll try to include 28px, 32px, and 48px panels as well. You'll be able to select the one you want by editing the gtkrc file.

Could you make an eyecandy version of this theme? It might include coloured scrollbar and glossy buttons and also new tabs.

Report

you can already have that.. there are instructions inside the gtkrc file, thinks like scrollbar colors, sizes and gloss of all widgets can be adjusted usually by editing one or two lines. the file tells you what each line or setting does, so you just need to read the instructions in blue. as for the tabs, there's no way to change them without using pixmaps, and depending too much on them might hinder the flexibility in color choices.

Yes. Now i have done it. But one thing is still in my mind, can I made the scrollbar to pick up the colour from the selected background?

You can't. This is a limitation of the current murrine engine, the only way to get around it would be to use clearlooks scrollbars instead or to use the unstable version of murrine 0.6.

Seriously, one of the best and most fabulous themes I've ever seen.

However, would you mind creating murrina-human (or other light themes, not the dark ones) with a dark panel? The light one doesn't match well with my wallpaper. Thanks in advance.

ok, I added a dark panel option... just open the gtkrc file, and in the panel section uncomment the lines it tells you to. It's just a quick hack, and if you don't like the panel background, it at least lightens the fonts so you can use your own custom dark panel.

Thanks a lot! This is exactly what I wanted!

I'm glad you like it, I don't think I can maintain another set of themes (since I have 3 themes and 8 variations per) but I might add an option for dark panels inside the file, so you can get them by just uncommenting two or three lines.

each release gets better and better and so quickly too! you seem to almost be predicting all the possible things about the theme that I could imagine need to be changed: the emerald borders, the spacing of gtk elements...etc. Keep up the good work. my desktop is such a glorious wise green now!

thanks! I try to implement fixes or new ideas as soon as I have the time. If you (or anyone) has any suggestions about things you might want me to add or change, please let me know.

for some reason when I use this theme with DeltaGreen icons the back and forward browser icons are misaligned in nautilus. Some icon themes seem to work well enough, but I don't know...the previous version of your theme didn't do this. Maybe you could look into it?

Thanks for letting me know, I looked into this but apparently it's not a theme issue. I installed that icon pack, and the buttons were misaligned in nautilus and firefox with every theme. The issue is that the back button doesn't have the same height placement as the forward button, like this: http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/3448/screenshotko0.png

You should let the author of that icon theme know, so he can fix it.

I just did a lot of bugfixes. I managed to change the color of the dark themes' links in some applications, but other apps like openoffice and liferea don't use these settings. is there someone who can help me fix these?

Great theme...

Here is my screenshot... This is the best team eva!! One thing though.. How do I edit the colors of Pidgin convo? Please see the screenshot to know what I mean

You can do so by enabling the GTK+ theme control plugin in pidgin. I might add the colors for links/pidgin text in next version, but I need to decide which colors look best first.

Cool I will look into that?

How about Tomboy? The Dark blue title is hard in the eyes with the black background.

Thanks!

I already added some workarounds for pidgin in the latest version (although received messages are still dark). I also changed link colors in some apps, but I haven't found a way to do so in all apps, maybe someone here knows the code that can help?

excellent theme. I love it. I made a small change to the emerald theme--lowered the curve radius to 5.5 becuase then there isn't a very small glitch on the borders. After this it's all flawless. I think I like the murrina version more than clearlooks. It's faster anyway.

I'm glad you like it. I know which glitch you're talking about, but it shouldn't appear by default. I've only noticed it whenever the glow height is changed to something not "x.5".. so 3.5, 4.5, or 5.5 are OK.

so the default would be rounding 6.0 and glow height 4.5
