GTK2 Themes

Description:

It is time to give a modern and professional look to our desktop! The new theme makes more clever use of orange (not over-use it) and is mainly color-neutral. It is designed for Ubuntu in mind but can be used in other distros that may bear warm colors.

Installation: (requires pixbuf theme engine)
Very simple. Just double click the file newwave-(xxx).gtp where (xxx) is the version number e.g. 050. Note that if you have previous version of the theme in your home folder you need to remove it first. You may need to log out then log in to make all changes appear (e.g. handlers, lines). For more information on how to fix Firefox's menubar text and how to use the theme in root programs see the README file.

Extras:
The package also contains:
- New Wave Configurator (GUI),
- Emerald themes,
- Compiz-fusion settings,
- Second theme with dark menus,
- Firefox skin,
- Some metacity tweaks.
- Time applet tips.
Theme for xfwm4 (Xubuntu) can be downloaded in the Download section of this page.

This is the reason for the bug but it should be fixed. On my pc I have a symlink in my /root/ pointing to /home/.themes/ so this should why I'm not getting it.

I confirmed the bug at Launchpad and will try to fix it as soon as possible.

..without menu bar gradient - would that be possible?

You should rename one more file. It is in:
'/home/<username>/.themes/New Wave/gtk-2.0/Images/'
and is called MenuBar.png too.

Sorry for the double post.

Yes you could go to your theme folder /home/<username>/.themes/New Wave/gtk-2.0/Images/Menu-Menubar/

And from there rename the file 'MenuBar.png' to 'MenuBar-No.png'. Then reload the theme. If you want to bring it back just rename the file to 'MenuBar.png' again.

What is the icon theme you have used for screenshots? Please post the url. Thanks in advance. All the best for your nice work.

The theme is called Elementary Ubuntu and is developed alongside the gtk and gdm themes by the New Wave Team.

The project files are uploaded to the Launchpad site (collaborative place):

https://launchpad.net/anton

The icons can be checked out (downloaded) from here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-new-wave/anton/devel.icons

Thanks for your quick reply. But there is no link to download the files. How can I do that?

If you want to have the orange version you will have to download and install bazaar:

http://bazaar-vcs.org/Download

or use Synaptic Package Manager. Then in terminal window you should write this command:

bzr branch lp:~ubuntu-new-wave/anton/devel.icons

There is a blue version that the orange one is derived form:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Elementary+Icons?content=73439

Actually I love this theme. Amazing, and very manly :)

Everything works well except the maximize/minimize/close button. It looks like this.

http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/new.lehoang/Ubuntu/photo#5237376022417035586

I'm not going to say I'm disappointed with it, but I prefer your buttons to mine :D

Thanks a lot for your great theme

Thanks. I have a few tips for you:

1. You might want to make the transition from the metacity titlebar to the menubar smooth. In this case you will have to copy the contents of the /gconf/gwd folder located in the theme pack in ~/.gconf/apps/. There is a readme file inside gconf too.

2. To get the appearance of the screenshots you will have to use Emerald window manager and install one of the themes in the Emerald folder.

Thank you for your quick reply and your nice tips also :D Now I have another problem:

http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/new.lehoang/Ubuntu/photo#5237421762484558578

As you see. When a windows is moving, there's a blank ( white ) line between the border and the menu-bar. Is there any way to solve this?

Thanks again :D

One more tip:

3. If you want to make your menu in Firefox readable you will have to copy the file userChrome.css in you profile's directory. For Firefox the path is ~/.mozilla/firefox/(xxxx).default/chrome/ where (xxxx) is some text different over installations.

Cheers
Anton

I'm afraid this is beyond my scope as it requires a new version of emerald or may be better integration of the window manager with gtk.

However thanks for the feedback :)

5.2 was good. 5.4 crashes my themes manager if I try to run it from this directory /usr/share/themes

it will not let me access it unless i delete the folder from /usr/share/themes directory.

I'm not getting the same panel as you do...while i kinda did get the black panel but the inactive window text was not all black. I restarted the gnome-panel and after that I'm seeing only the menubar color panel.

darn typo...

With the black background, the background text was ALL black. Only the icons were visible.

I went ahead and used my own panel background. Other than this minor glich the theme is very nice. Rated good.

Opps sorry but I DO understood you :) What I ment to say was I do not know why are you getting the error. On my and other PC's the panels appear all-right. Have you tried to restart your Xserver or even the PC and then see if the problem is still present?

Report

Restarting X server fixes the problem...thanks for the tip. BTW sorry for the confusing comment, i should proof read before clicking on the Save button :(
