Description:

It is time to give a modern and professional look to our desktop! The new theme makes more clever use of orange (not over-use it) and is mainly color-neutral. It is designed for Ubuntu in mind but can be used in other distros that may bear warm colors.

Installation: (requires pixbuf theme engine)
Very simple. Just double click the file newwave-(xxx).gtp where (xxx) is the version number e.g. 050. Note that if you have previous version of the theme in your home folder you need to remove it first. You may need to log out then log in to make all changes appear (e.g. handlers, lines). For more information on how to fix Firefox's menubar text and how to use the theme in root programs see the README file.

Extras:
The package also contains:
- New Wave Configurator (GUI),
- Emerald themes,
- Compiz-fusion settings,
- Second theme with dark menus,
- Firefox skin,
- Some metacity tweaks.
- Time applet tips.
Theme for xfwm4 (Xubuntu) can be downloaded in the Download section of this page.

I don't like the "human solution" of openoffice bug with standard version of new wave,it's too different from your theme, why not try to change it with the wasp script solution (using your color scheme)?Have you seen it?:)

Hmmm, I have not heard of it. Can you tell me more? I'm open to new things and would like to make the experience with the theme as seamless and integrated as possible.

Take a look at this theme:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Wasp?content=104167

..inside you'll find a script named "ooo.sh" which radically change openoffice stylish according to color theme,I think you could try to do something similar....:)

Thank You!

I will have a look and will probably include smth similar in the next New Wave release.

Hey, I GLANCED through the read me but didn't see anything in there regarding the fonts in the dark menus. When they are 'dimmed' in the Menu bar, there is a bad shadow beneath the letters and it looks bad. In Firefox, however, they look PERFECT! Is there a way to include those type of menus in the Gnome menu bar?

There is no way of modifying this because the pixmap engine has this shadow hardcoded and I can't change it's color. You may try to use another engine for the separators but I don't recommend it if you are not familiar with gtk themes.

Well, since I'm not this type of artist, I'll leave that stuff to you.

I have to say, other than that one very small issue, this is my favorite theme! I was not a fan of the darker themes but New Wave changed all of that. It grew on me the more I used it.

Keep up the great work!

Today I tried to change the panel background to Smoke and various others but I had a problem with the Application/Places/System and notification area because those didn't change.

Nodoka and other themes change the panel completely and give me the freedom to use the panel background we want to use.

Can you enable that in your theme?

I'm already using this via the gtkrc file and that's why you cannot change all. In order to do it open the gtkrc file and find inside this:
style "panel" = "newwave-default"

then replace bg_pixmap[NORMAL] = "Images/Panel/PanelBarLong.png" with smth like that:
bg_pixmap[NORMAL] = "Smoke image location.png"

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for the cool theme! As I'm in the process of switching back to GNOME from using KDE (and Windows) quite exclusively over the last two years I was extremely pleased when I hit your brilliant looking New Wave theme. Before I had thought that it was sort of inevitable that the upper part of the GNOME screen always looked overladen and disorienting to me but that elegant sort of three-tone colour code and one-piece title-menu bar work just great for me. Thanks!

I have to say, GTK2 engine murrine is getting more improvement. Is it possible New Wave theme could have rgba support in order to have transparent affect on gtk2 on the new engine?

Thanks.

I can't understand the second part of your question. Can you please ask it with other words.

P.S.
I'd have to say that this theme is not using the murrine engine as many of you think and this theme will not get rgba support until Gnome 3.0 is released.

Sorry about my english, and I was asking if its possible for New Wave theme to have RGBA capability for gtk, but you just answered my questions already.

By the way, awesome job on this theme and look forward to your next release.

The pixmap engine supports transparency of almost all widgets but the windows behind are not controlled by the theme but by gtk and the application itself. GTK 3.0 and gnome 3.0 respectively will enable this by default in all applications so then you will be able to adjust the transparency.

This version is great and solved a large number of important bugfix from previous version...the only thing you might consider to improve is the code weightness..test your theme with gtkperf, here is a comparative(for example):

Murrina Dust: Total time: 7,32
New Wave : Total time: 12,25 (very slowly)

PS:Sorry for my bad english.

Report

C

dilomo

As you mentioned performance I further investigated it and it turned out that the difference between Dust and New Wave is only ~ 1 sec (not 5 as you show) if we remove 1sec from the progressbar bug that stops its drawing at the beginning. It wasn't like that before so I will further investigate on this pb bug.

See results here:

I want to clarify that I have tested New Wave with compiz activated (which influence the result),additionally I used Dust Murrine in gtkperf (taken from dashua launchpad) not Original Dust...:)

This testing program's results are not always correct and i don't use it as measure for the performance. The one test I do is that if the user feels the theme is snappy the it's all ok. If you compare the aurora engine and my theme their results are almost the same because they offer greater eye-candy and more detail than other themes.

Btw I run gtkperf and got 9.82 on my PC so you can see for yourself that this is relative test program.

Would you consider doing a monochrome version? I am currently using your theme and I love it. I think it is superb and very modern. But at times I would like to have the option without the orange highlight. Thanks again for sharing your hard work.

You theme is available in the "Appearance" menu in Ubuntu 9.04 Beta, congrats! I choose it as my theme and guess what FF menu has dark text.

This can harm the user experience especially for newbies that don't know how to do the user CSS thing you suggest to fix that.

Thank you.

Thank you, friend!

Coming soon is version 0.8.0 that will include a FF theme fixing this and adding much more polish. It will be available in a week or so.

Thanks for the theme =)
However i think the progress bar is a bit plain. It would be great if it can be strip-colored.

Progressbar animation is no possible now but in 0.8 the colors would be richer and it will have some more depth.
