It is time to give a modern and professional look to our desktop! The new theme makes more clever use of orange (not over-use it) and is mainly color-neutral. It is designed for Ubuntu in mind but can be used in other distros that may bear warm colors.
Installation: (requires pixbuf theme engine)
Very simple. Just double click the file newwave-(xxx).gtp where (xxx) is the version number e.g. 050. Note that if you have previous version of the theme in your home folder you need to remove it first. You may need to log out then log in to make all changes appear (e.g. handlers, lines). For more information on how to fix Firefox's menubar text and how to use the theme in root programs see the README file.
Extras:
The package also contains:
- New Wave Configurator (GUI),
- Emerald themes,
- Compiz-fusion settings,
- Second theme with dark menus,
- Firefox skin,
- Some metacity tweaks.
- Time applet tips.
Theme for xfwm4 (Xubuntu) can be downloaded in the Download section of this page.

I have two questions:
1. Is it possible to quick-hack the gtkrc file to change the width of the window border (the vertical ones). I have problems pointing my mouse to resize the window :)
The gtkrc is quite huge and maybe you can help me telling me where i have to make the change
I probably wouldn't suggest to include the wider vertical border into the 0.8 release because it looks very good as it is. But sometimes i prefer usability over good look :)
2. For 0.8 release: Is it planned to fix the problem with Evolution mail. If you go to Mail preferences you can hardly see the options (also in the dark theme). It's not so important because i dont really use often my mail preferences :).
Again thx very much for this theme! (i love orange-black combinations)!! Great work

1. The gtkrc file is of no use to you. Go to the metacity-1 folder and open metacity-theme-1.xml. There you should edit the styles for all types of windows. Here's an example:
<distance name="left_width" value="1"/>
<distance name="right_width" value="1"/>
Just replace the value with 2 or more pixels and you are done.
2. This is not a problem with the theme but with evolution. I probably can fix this with some hacks but this is not the good way. I prefer Evolution devs to fix this rather than me hiding it with "make up".

I saw on some forums that some people have the same wish like me (window border).
Maybe you could place some FAQ or something with the quickfix.
However I wouldnt recommend changing the width in the official release (I will post this into your bug list :)).
Never mind about Evolution Mail. It seems that it has the problem with other themes too (maybe general).

I do use Fedora however and I was wondering if the orange can be replaced with the color blue from Fedora. I would do this myself but I dont know how to do it myself.

If you clik the link to the homepage you will find the svg sources of the theme and modifying them could result in other colors. One other guy has started work on this so you may consider contacting him and helping him out (for his name look up the comment of the theme - should be one or two pages back. It was called Valeryan24 or playa1313 I think).

More discrete colors like blue or gray for the scrollbar and buttons would make the theme perfect for me! Thank you for the excellent work!

I don't have the time to make a blue version but I talked wit a guy that said he is doing such and will release it. But I don't know when unfortunately.
I'm workin on New Wave 0.8.0 so you should expect it some time in the future (I'm still testing it and adding new stuff).

Sorry for the late reply but I was away from home. What is this list you are talking about? Is it the one that you could switch running applications?

Maybe some more colours here and there throughout the theme? Without much colour it isn't distracting, but a little depressing over time.
Very clean looking otherwise.

About the color I don't really know what should I change (suggestions?). Only good change is the change of iconset that will by very much modify the whole experience with the theme. I have a custom one in the LaunchPad site and I'm considering to use Breath when it's full enough.

You are talking about the menus not being shown with the correct text color? If so I will make everything possible to include a fix in the next major version (0.8).

First I want to congratulate you for your fantastic theme : I really love New Wave, it looks modern and beautiful, I hope it will be included in the artwork for next Ubuntu versions !
I installed the Dark Menus one and it is very nice.
For my own use on personal desktop, there are 3 details I would like to change in order New Wave (Dark Menus) becomes perfect for me :
- Color of a clicked button (mouse over it) or element and clicked progression bar as blue instead of orange.
- Have on the top right on the windows for Dark Menus the sames buttons (with the X bigger) than in classic New Waves : to get that, I mixed the theme with Dark Menus and Metacity New Waves, but now title of window and menu bar aren't the same black / grey color, how to get this ?
- Most important : on Nautilus file manager, when I drag & drop a file, there is no more the up and down black lines on the folder where I move the document, and it is annoying, this helped me a lot to move on the right folder.
If you know what modifications to make on your configuration files (after having downloaded the pack), thanks a lot in advance !
Again, great work ;-)

2) Do you mean the metacity with the key shape?
3) I don't know what exactly are you talking about. Probably report a bug here and attach screenshots:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/anton
As a matter of fact you can report all your issues as bugs in LaunchPad. That is the way I prefer people to tell me about issues with the theme .
Thanks for the feedback!

1- It was not the most important, the orange you choose is nice, too, I'm not very well on programming and compiling, but I will try your advice. Blue is better compliant with Tango Icon theme I use.
2- I selected New Wave Dark Menus theme in order to have dark color on the menus, but as I wanted the windows buttons from NewWave theme, in Appearance - Customize - Window Border, I put NewWave, as you can see :
http://www.hiboox.fr/go/images/informatique/newwave,a32c60653cf33b507b2983c52ae7591f.png.html
But now, the title bar of each window has not exactly the same color as menu bar just below in the same window - one is grey, other is black and I'd like the same color, is it possible or do I have also change the svg ?
3- For Nautilus, I could not print screen when moving a file, so I did it in Gimp : normally when I drag the file with the mouse on the left of screen to move it to "home" folder for example, when cursor is just over "home", 2 rows appear above and under the name "home" to show you that, if you stop left-clicking mouse, file will be moved in this folder.
With NewWave theme, I do not have anymore this rows, when I am on Nautilus trying moving a file, I do not know exactly on which folder it will go.
I hope I am clear...

1) The sources are svg files from whitch you should extract png's with appropriate color. If you achieve good results you could post the theme to the *-look.org sites.
2) The window borders you are trying to use are from ver 0.6.x and New Wave in 0.7.x has the same metacity in all types of themes (dark, light menus). However I will try to make a version of the old ones that fits 0.7.x .
3) That is probaly an issue of the pixmap engine I'm using. There is almost 90% chance not to find a solution but I will check this out. Still if you report a bug at LP I will be better able to coordinate this problem.
Thank you for taking the time to report these issues.

1- I will try
2- That's right, I first installed NewWave by downloading community-themes on Ubuntu Intrepid, it should be version 0.5 or 0.6, then I installed Dark Menus from the 0.7.2 got from here.
Personally I prefer the "old" window border style with big X, thanks for your proposal for doing a version which fits 0.7
3- I will post a bug report on Launchapd for Nautilus
Best regards :-)
