GTK2 Themes

Description:

It is time to give a modern and professional look to our desktop! The new theme makes more clever use of orange (not over-use it) and is mainly color-neutral. It is designed for Ubuntu in mind but can be used in other distros that may bear warm colors.

Installation: (requires pixbuf theme engine)
Very simple. Just double click the file newwave-(xxx).gtp where (xxx) is the version number e.g. 050. Note that if you have previous version of the theme in your home folder you need to remove it first. You may need to log out then log in to make all changes appear (e.g. handlers, lines). For more information on how to fix Firefox's menubar text and how to use the theme in root programs see the README file.

Extras:
The package also contains:
- New Wave Configurator (GUI),
- Emerald themes,
- Compiz-fusion settings,
- Second theme with dark menus,
- Firefox skin,
- Some metacity tweaks.
- Time applet tips.
Theme for xfwm4 (Xubuntu) can be downloaded in the Download section of this page.

Well, i really really like this theme, i actually prefer it to Dust (im a fan of dark themes) I like the way the X is bigger in the top corner, and i like all the colours, and especially the new updated coloured menus you have implemented, honestly i dont know how you could improve this, my only idea is if you could perhaps make a Firefox theme? To go with your theme? That would make it complete! :) Anyways,Brilliant work. I love it, and well done :)

Thank you :)

Yes definitely a firefox theme would be good for the version with light menus. I'm not very familiar with the process of creation though so it might take a while until I release a firefox skin. Anyway there are some more aspects of the theme that could be improved so we may even see version 0.8 ;)

Just wanted to say, great theme. I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and love it. I don't usually like dark themes, but this one works very well.

Thanks for the hard work.

it's very good.
i think it's somehow beautiful than KDE's "plastic" theme:)

i like it!

1. i hope the checkbox and radiobutton is bigger than it is.

2. if i use font size bigger than 9,
for example, font12, or, if i use taskbar
panel size bigger than 26(i use 42), the background picture is broken...

Thank you :)

1) But they aren't that small, are they? This is the first time I think of this being an issue to someone.

2) That is known to be a problem of all themes that use images as backgrounds in panels. It is possible to make a dozen of images but there is no user-friendly way to change them. So if you care you can stretch the image for titlebar (in Images/MenuMenubar/) in order to fit your panel size.

Nice work!
1)Is there a workaround for open office 3? (it behaves like firefox-thunderbird without the css)

2)I use v0.7 and when i try to update to 0.7.1 it get a 'cannot move directory over directory' error

1) Use the theme with dark menus

2) Open nautilus and press Ctrl+L. Type '~/.themes/' and press enter. Delete the folder New Wave. Then install in the usual manner.

You could have both themes installed - with dark and light menus.

1) Where is that cool wave/curl effect from when you pressed menu (File, Edit, etc) that was between/joining the menu and the drop down ??

2) That weird selected color, pink, is that it ?? How can I change it ??

1) It is no longer appropriate as the titlebar is not behind - has no dropped shadow but a gradient.

2) Change the file in the folder: ~/.themes/New Wave/gtk-2.0/Images/Tree/

hello,
i like your theme very much. thanks for this! one question:
when i try to copy your theme as root into usr/share/themes it wont work. why is that so? is there a possibility to install your theme system-wide?

In the archive there are 2 archives:new-wave071.tar.gz and new-wave071-darkmenu.tar.gz . You allso need to extract those in /usr/share/themes, because those are the GTK themes.
Cheers

Firstly, your theme is just great. One small thing I would like, and that is a openbox theme to work with the rest of the theme. Anyway keep on the good job ;) .

Unfortunately OpenBox theme could not be made to match New Wave because the line under the title bar could not be removed in using the themerc file. If you know a way to do it please send me a message.

Ported the Metacity and GTK to the Project Epidermis, maybe you could help us to pick a default GDM,GRUB and wallpaper, drop me a message here or contact flimm in Ubuntu forums.

Thanks man!

In the message I have not mentioned GRUB so probably this will suffice till I make custom one: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/GRUB+Rays?content=77266

In the former version of your theme I used to have gray dropdowns in the main menu and also grey popup windows (i.e. when you right-click your mouse). Now they are both white... Is that the correct color? or I'm having a bug. I prefer the gray bg color so If its a bug let me now and will see what can be done, if don't I think I'll go back to 0.6.2

Thanks a lot

Yes - white is the correct color. I updated the theme and you can now use dark menus. Just install the theme labeled new-wave070-darkmenus.tar.gz

I absolutely love this theme, I was just wondering, is there any way to have it based around a color other than orange? Preferably a blue or a green? If not, that's fine. Congrats again on the great work!
