Description:

This theme is a mod of Elegant One, by Dzakusek (which was also a mod of Black-White, by Lyrae). When I saw Glossy Fall, created by Crimesaucer, I fell in love with the colors and decided I just had to apply them to the Elegant concept. Red and blue would be my master inspirations.
After some more personal changes, I came out with what I decided to call Elegant Brit. I hope you enjoy it.

The Metacity version was based on the Alessandro theme. I built it in order to follow the layout of its Emerald equivalent, that is, the title is on the right (the buttons' position is regulated on Gconf; in this theme's logic, they'd stay in the left). If you want to change the title position to the center, please follow the instructions on the Metacity XML file. However, if you have any doubts, please don't hesitate and contact me. I'll be pleased to help. I hope you like it, and if you don't, make suggestions!

The package includes a GTK theme, a Metacity theme, a PNG icon for the main menu (if you want) and a userChrome.css (copy it to the "chrome" folders of both .mozilla and mozilla-thunderbird folders under your $HOME).

The link to the Emerald theme is below. I separated them in this new edition in order to put each element of the theme in its correct category.

I'm open and very receptive to any opinions, comments and suggestions.

TO DO:
Fix Sonata bug (white on white song title when hovered);
Fix Sunbird bug (crashing altogether with Elegant Brit enabled);
Fix NetBeans bug (unreadable menu titles).

I'll appreciate all help I can get.
I'm facing some hard situations in my personal life, thus the lack of updates. I'm still researching in order to achieve the above goals.

We have such a wonderful community.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been facing some serious personal issues. I promise to keep working on the theme.

IMPORTANT:
Arialis111 created a Xfwm4 version for Elegant Brit. I'm providing below the link to his work, for those who, like me, use Xfce. All credits of this Xfwm4 version go to Arialis111, to whom I'm tremendously thankful. I'm lost for words. Vote for his version! He deserves it.

The above also applies to Envyouraudience, who created an Openbox theme to match Elegant Brit. I'm linking to his work too. Thanks a lot for improving the Elegant Brit experience for the Openbox users. And of course, all credits go for Envyouraudience himself for the work he developed.

Thanks to Lyrae as well for pointing out the solution to some bugs concerning the Shutdown/Create Launcher dialogs under GNOME, the left pane on Gedit, and the weather and clock applets on the Xfce-panel. Thanks also for the creation of the marvelous PekWM theme to go with Elegant Brit.

Also many thanks to Ayoli, for having created an Elegant Brit mod compatible with the Mac Menu patch and for allowing me to upload it and make it available to the community. I couldn't have made it all alone. I really appreciate it. Plus, he's been doing a good work helping me out with other bugs. Merci, Ayoli!

I've also been helped by several other people in order to make Elegant Brit a better project. I thank PurposeOfReason, Sousuke, El Mariachi, DasGewitter and all those who have been commenting my theme and overally everybody for helping me to solve bugs, giving me suggestions, giving me strength and support and overally working to improve Elegant Brit. This is truly a work from the community to the community. Thanks, everybody!

On the screenshots, I'm using Eikon, a personal collection of icons I found across the Web, along with some modifications I made. It has evolved a lot in the last few weeks, so there are some considerable changes. I'm sharing Eikon on a non-official basis, with all those who are interested on checking it out.

To get the most recent updates to Eikon, now on its second generation, please check this website: http://drop.io/fmrbpensador

Boas.

It seems that I can't change from your theme to another one :p My menu and scroll bars don't change to the other themes. Is this a known issue? I posted a screenshot in the March Desktop Thread, where you know how to find me =)

Olá!

I saw your screenshot, and I'm definitely clueless about what is happening. It's not occurring here, and I don't know if other users have the same issue... But I'll keep track of the problem and try to know what possibly is going on, with my theme or not. Thanks for reporting. Obrigado!

Superb theme men! Great colors, I'm curious about the fonts you are using (title bar specially), keep up the good work. Also, could you PM a link to those icons? They look so cool... Thanks!

I'm using the Myriad fonts for almost all my desktop. Myriad Web, size 9, for the window controls, and Myriad Semibold, size 9, for the window titles. (The clock was made with Eurostile.)

I'm sending you a link to the icons right next. Cheers!

As I said in previous comments, I can and I have been sharing the icon set through private messages here on OpenDesktop.org. So, right next I'll send you a PM explaining you how to get the icon theme. Cheers.

Hi,

if I read correctly you are using XFCE just like I am, I was wondering if you are able to use your icons under XFCE as well instead of Gnome. When I try to install the pack in /usr/share/icons I cannot see in in XFCE.

Further I have been wondering for a while how I can use those 'special' folders with seperate icons for example "Downloads", "Pictures", etc.

thanks,
stefan

I'm not sure of what is going on on your side, but it is definitely working on my side as well... How about putting it on your /$HOME/.icons folder to see if it works? I have a symlink in my /usr/share/icons folder to my home icons directory, so that the administrator applications can work with that theme as well.

And as for those different images at the corner of each folder, they're called Emblems. Just right-click on a folder, choose Properties and find an Emblems tab. Then, pick the emblem you wish for that folder.

Hi,

i have been testing the latest version of you theme and can indeed confirm that now Evolution is working just fine for me. thanks a lot for fixing this!

PS! i'd be interested in the icon theme PM as well if it is not too much of a bother.

thx,
stefan

Hello there!

First of all, I have to say that I'm using Thunar, not Nautilus, for a file manager. So the looks are naturally different. However, if all you really want is to take away the text from the toolbar buttons of Nautilus and other GNOME apps, there is a GNOME tool, called Appearance dialog from the 2.20 version on, if I'm not wrong, where you can change that, if you click on the Interface tab. I hope I was helpful. Let me know if it worked to what you needed. Cheers!

Hi,

Great Theme,
Best i've seen to date.

Could you PM a link to your icon set please?

Btw, could you a add a colored border to the gtkentry field when its selected?
Makes it harder to see with no difference when its selected and not.

Thanks.

P.S:I registered on opendesktop, just to say your theme rocks!

hi, i just got a short but interesting piece of information for all of you, who - like me - use the extraordinary gmusicbrowser. since this application uses a standard border of 5 pixels that doesn't really fit the melting of window decoration and menu bar in elegant brit.
to override this standard-setting you have to add the line "Window = borderwidth=0" to the layout you're using.

Just to make it clear (since I also never used Gmusicbrowser... I'm such an awful app-tester), where does that line exactly go? Does it have a place on the gtkrc file of EB, or does it only have to do with an internal preference of Gmusicbrowser? Thanks again.

Report

you'll find the standard layouts in /usr/share/gmusicbrowser/layouts and your personal ones in ~/.gmusicbrowser/layouts. these layout files can contain more than one layout. for each layout that you would like to have this effect you should add the line i posted in the affected section.

for more (and maybe clearer) words on layouts in gmusicbrowser, see the official documentation: http://squentin.free.fr/gmusicbrowser/layout_doc.html

sorry, i guess my last posting was a bit unclear. to answer your question: it only has to do with the internal layout specifications of gmusicbrowser. so nothing to worry about for you, i just wanted to inform everyone who might use this app.

and to clarify one more thing, with "for each layout that you would like to have this effect you should add the line i posted in the affected section." i meant:
"you should add the line i posted SOMEWHERE in the affected section."

well, i was thinking for a while whether i should report this bug (mainly because it's not even very important to me but for reasons of completeness or integrity i thought i'll mention it).

in firefox 2.0.0.12 if you use the bookmarks-toolbar with folders and you click on one and go down the list, the title of the folder just stays black on black. (as long as you just hover the folder/link in the bookmarks toolbar everything is fine and readable with blue on black.)

anyways, don't invest too much time on that - i guess there really are more important things in life ;)

Bug reproduced. Thanks for reporting it, since I don't like a cluttered environment I don't even use the bookmarks toolbar, so I'd never spot that bug if you didn't point it out. Next step will be to do some research and try to sort that out.

And as for more important things in life... Well, I don't know about other people, but right now my life is everything but interesting. Or even important.

Thanks again for your continued support and interest about Elegant Brit. I like users who pay attention to the details. Cheers!

Hi,

i just updated to 1.1.12 of your theme and i can see it is getting better still. I do have some issues with it though but maybe it is just me so maybe someone can test and reply. I use xfce on Arch by the way.

In FF3 I now have readable blue menu options, but selecting one of the tabs renders it unreadable white on white

in OOo i still have unreadable menu options but when selecting where one is supoposed to be it is readable again

In evolution selecting an email and then switching to another pane still renders the email white on light grey hardly readable.

keep up the perfect work!

I will still see what is happening with Evolution, but as for FF3 and OOO, I couldn't reproduce the bugs. However, of course, I'm available to listen more bug reports in case more people are experiencing the same issues. I'm listening.

But as for FF3, did you use the newest userChrome.css that is packed with Elegant Brit since 1.1.10? It was supposed to solve the issue. If it didn't, then I'll try to work that out.

Cheers, and thanks for your interest on Elegant Brit.
