Description:

This theme is a mod of Elegant One, by Dzakusek (which was also a mod of Black-White, by Lyrae). When I saw Glossy Fall, created by Crimesaucer, I fell in love with the colors and decided I just had to apply them to the Elegant concept. Red and blue would be my master inspirations.
After some more personal changes, I came out with what I decided to call Elegant Brit. I hope you enjoy it.

The Metacity version was based on the Alessandro theme. I built it in order to follow the layout of its Emerald equivalent, that is, the title is on the right (the buttons' position is regulated on Gconf; in this theme's logic, they'd stay in the left). If you want to change the title position to the center, please follow the instructions on the Metacity XML file. However, if you have any doubts, please don't hesitate and contact me. I'll be pleased to help. I hope you like it, and if you don't, make suggestions!

The package includes a GTK theme, a Metacity theme, a PNG icon for the main menu (if you want) and a userChrome.css (copy it to the "chrome" folders of both .mozilla and mozilla-thunderbird folders under your $HOME).

The link to the Emerald theme is below. I separated them in this new edition in order to put each element of the theme in its correct category.

I'm open and very receptive to any opinions, comments and suggestions.

TO DO:
Fix Sonata bug (white on white song title when hovered);
Fix Sunbird bug (crashing altogether with Elegant Brit enabled);
Fix NetBeans bug (unreadable menu titles).

I'll appreciate all help I can get.
I'm facing some hard situations in my personal life, thus the lack of updates. I'm still researching in order to achieve the above goals.

We have such a wonderful community.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been facing some serious personal issues. I promise to keep working on the theme.

IMPORTANT:
Arialis111 created a Xfwm4 version for Elegant Brit. I'm providing below the link to his work, for those who, like me, use Xfce. All credits of this Xfwm4 version go to Arialis111, to whom I'm tremendously thankful. I'm lost for words. Vote for his version! He deserves it.

The above also applies to Envyouraudience, who created an Openbox theme to match Elegant Brit. I'm linking to his work too. Thanks a lot for improving the Elegant Brit experience for the Openbox users. And of course, all credits go for Envyouraudience himself for the work he developed.

Thanks to Lyrae as well for pointing out the solution to some bugs concerning the Shutdown/Create Launcher dialogs under GNOME, the left pane on Gedit, and the weather and clock applets on the Xfce-panel. Thanks also for the creation of the marvelous PekWM theme to go with Elegant Brit.

Also many thanks to Ayoli, for having created an Elegant Brit mod compatible with the Mac Menu patch and for allowing me to upload it and make it available to the community. I couldn't have made it all alone. I really appreciate it. Plus, he's been doing a good work helping me out with other bugs. Merci, Ayoli!

I've also been helped by several other people in order to make Elegant Brit a better project. I thank PurposeOfReason, Sousuke, El Mariachi, DasGewitter and all those who have been commenting my theme and overally everybody for helping me to solve bugs, giving me suggestions, giving me strength and support and overally working to improve Elegant Brit. This is truly a work from the community to the community. Thanks, everybody!

On the screenshots, I'm using Eikon, a personal collection of icons I found across the Web, along with some modifications I made. It has evolved a lot in the last few weeks, so there are some considerable changes. I'm sharing Eikon on a non-official basis, with all those who are interested on checking it out.

To get the most recent updates to Eikon, now on its second generation, please check this website: http://drop.io/fmrbpensador

Hi,

thanks for the tip. I think i used the userchrome.css but somehow it is not working. every time I copy the file to /home/stefan/.mozilla/dfg6456.default/ it is gone again after I restart firefox. I don't know why it does this.

hope someone can help,
stefan

ok, i now put the file in /home/stefan/.mozilla/gfdsfg.default/chrome and now at least it stays there. It did change FF3 a little, the menu options for me are now white instead of blue (better) but when I select them they still turn white for me. strange.

i tried the chrome.css on my other pc and there it is indeed working fine for FF3. so no clue why my desktop won't work but the fix is okay! OOo menu bar is still all grey on both pc's though, shoulnd I clear some cach or something before it works? i switched to another theme and back an rebooted both pc's.

recently switched to compiz with emerald and i must say that it is looking very sharp! thanks a lot.

Hello there.

I'm not sure why are you having such diverse results from a computer to another, but as for FF3, I'd ask you to be sure you put the userChrome.css inside of the chrome folder when you have no Firefox instance open. Especially if you have both FF3 and FF2 installed, and even though I'm no expert, I believe it's always best to do that kind of operations when the program is not loaded, in order to avoid some strange results. Then again, don't quote me on that one; I'm pretty much a newbie on the technical sense. Thanks for sticking with Elegant Brit. I'm working to solve the bugs still appearing with the theme.

Separator is invisible on gnome panel and on firefox bookmarks toolbar.

Do you mean the handles on the gnome-panel (three dots displayed in a vertical row)?...

Report

No. Panel applet "separator" (a vertical line).

OK, now I got it... I'll try to figure that issue out. Since I'm a Xfce user, I'm used to think separators are meant to be invisible, since they can expand and so on... But I forgot GNOME-panel lacked that feature. Thanks for pointing it out.

I thought that the problem with OOO was the same that netbeans have, but now I realize that is not true, in netbeans (JAVA) the problem with the menus it is still present with the last update.

I don't currently use NetBeans, but I will try to find out how to solve that bug... I appreciate any help I can get.

First i want to thank you for a very nice theme. Its very comfortable and easy for the eye to use.
However I'm missing the icons in the xfce menu and the windows menu list. Does anyone know how to enable the icons?

You could change the gtk-menu-images parameter on the gtkrc file from 0 to 1. And vice-versa if you want no icons at all. From this update, the icons are now visible, in case someone preferred the previous option, please let me know. It's an experiment, not really what I intended to when I created the theme.

You can edit the pixmaps of the theme, through GIMP, for example, to change the colours as you want.

As usual, I'll say that I'm always available to answer to questions concerning this issue through private messages. I have no problem sharing the icon set - it's the public releasing of it that worries me. I'm writing you a PM with a link for the icon set.

actually this issue has been brought up before quite many times. i would suggest you read the messages that are already in the comment section regarding the icon set.

one thing that bothers me though: fmrbpensador, you said you added the folder-icon to the elegant brit theme. for some reason i am unable to find it..?

Report

I didn't add the folder icon. I added an icon for the main menu, just like the one that appears on the screenshots.

And Kelfer, I sent you a private message. Did you check it?

i see, so i misinterpreted your comment on Freddan80.
anyway, in case you can/want to share that folder icon (e.g. if you made it yourself just like the menu-icon) i would be happy to use it. although it's close to apples icon it has something about it that i really like.

I did change the tone and the saturation of the folder icons, so they are not 100% equal to the Leopard ones. However, I'm not sure about what is the license for those, as I explained previously on other comments. I'm writing you a PM with a link for my icon set.

hi,

thanks for the new version. now at least the firefox3 menu's are readable again. I will test it at work against OOo to see if that works too. I do think that the blue color is slightly out of tone with the rest of the theme however, dont know what it should be instead yet but I don't see blues like this elsewhere in your theme. will think upon that one.

thanks,
stefan
