Description:

Dust is a concept for a new, refreshing look for Ubuntu. The idea was to take the defining aesthetic elements of Ubuntu and remix it into something clean, modern, functional, and unique.

It's a new take on the Ubuntu aesthetic using a dark palette and subtle colors.

Can you update your theme so it works with the latest Murrine SVN? I installed the script that comes with Shiki colors and now Dust doesn't work.

Love the theme, one small question, though. How/where can I change the color that shows up when you hover restore/minimize/close in window titles?

Those are the colors in the actually image files. You'll have to edit the images with graphic editor like gimp to change them.

I just thought I would throw this out there for those who get the "blocky" themes when they should be nice looking. If you have installed the theme engine that goes with the theme (ie. murrine or candido) and it isn't working, then you should check where it is being installed to. I am running the 64bit version of Fedora and my theme engines were being installed into the /usr/lib directory rather than the /usr/lib64 directory and hence were not being recognized as being installed. Just a thought for you to consider as you troubleshoot.

Hi,

This theme is great and I love it !

however...

The color of checked checkboxes or radio buttons is light grey on lighter grey.
which means it is more or less inmpossible to distinguish between checked and unchecked elements.
How can I fix this?

Soooo...
Any clue about how to change the color of checkboxes and radio button content?

It would be great to have them readable!

make sure you have the murrine engine installed. Without it, you won't see the state of checkboxes / radio button until you hover over them

Either this theme Does Not Work(tm) or I am stupid Mac OS X user that does not understand simple directions (no, I did not try to install this on my Leopard, it's a Ubuntu 8.10).

I downloaded && dpkg -i the required murrine engine. Downloaded Dust-0.2 tarball, dragged it to the apperance window. The result is well... at least ugly. The windows are beautifully decorated (window title bars, borders and so on), but the rest of the desktop looks like there was no GTK theme used at all (all-boxy widgets in steel gray). WTF?!

This is definitely an issue of the engine not being recognised correctly - is it possible you've installed an older version by mistake? Alternatively, the package you installed could be broken - if you're using Ubuntu Intrepid, Debian Unstable or a release based off either of those the version in the repositories should work fine i believe.

Apologies for the rude reply you received, not all linux users are so defensive and aggressive....

Themes should work right away but engines won't per se. You must restart at least X.ORG if not the computer.

Yes I would chock this up to being a dumb Mac OS X user if not for the fact that they make it extremely difficult to change the GUI appearance of the operating system and you probably wouldn't have had much theme experience with Mac to steer you in the wrong direction. If you HAD gotten theming to work with Mac and understood all of the steps, installed all the required proprietary third-party software which would have eventually asked you to restart at least twice and then came here wondering why this GNOME engine was not working when you hadn't restarted the X.ORG server or the computer only once, I would call you a retard. Next time you go to your Mac, why don't you try this out? Install a third party Atheros wifi card and then track down the driver, install, use it for your internet, and then update through Apple, enjoy. I never thought that I could hate a company and it's practices more than Microsoft until I tried using Mac.

It looks as I wrote, no matter how smartypants you pretend you are. Do you have any clue what's going on or just want to throw some shitwords on me, huh?

I think you had it right the first time: You're a stupid Mac OSX user who doesn't understand simple directions.

This theme rocks. Go away if you don't like it.

Really excellent job on this theme. The only theme I have considered using on Ubuntu. :D

Also, I have a small question. In your homepage, you have several screenshots included. I would like to know the names of the fonts you have used, please. They go really well with the theme.

Thanks.

I absolutely love this theme!!! There are a few tweaks I had to do (i.e icons) but if you choose the right icons and background, this theme could look very professional and fun. (Definitely not too cartoony-which I find many people like)
Great job!

I have downloaded and tweaked themes for about 4 years now. There has always been something missing here and there but that is the way it goes. Compared with the OSX theme on by boss' machine, well... there was none.

This theme has changed the visual experience for me. I so appreciate your talent and your contribution.

4 Suggestions:

- I wish the menu bar was a bit compact. It's too loose. And the arrows beside the categories are dull and too big.
- Tabs are not consistent. Why are the nautilus tabs not the same with firefox? BlackWinter does it very well. I think Dust can pull it off too..
- The progress bar is ugly. Making it look 3D-ish would be great.
- The overall UI is not really sharp except the title bar, navigation bar, and the panel.

Nonetheless, this is a very beautiful theme. It's by far the best out there. Thank you so much. Please keep it up and please consider my suggestions/comments..

What does this theme need to work?

GTK-engine is what?
Specific icon set needed, what?

I am trying to use on GNOME 2.24 on Mandriva 2009 and this just shows as blank.

I'm very new to editing GTK themes and was wondering if anyone could help.

I want to make the dropdown menu entries more compact (the entries under Applications Places System).

I usually run themes that compact the menu a lot more than the dust theme, as my laptop screen is only 1280 x 800 and it gets cramped real quick.

Exactly which part of the theme file do I need to edit to achieve this?

Or just add these lines to the gtkrc file:

gtk-icon-sizes ="gtk-small-toolbar=16,16:gtk-large-toolbar=32,32:gtk-button=16,16:panel-menu=16,16:gtk-menu=16,16"
gtk-toolbar-icon-size = GTK_ICON_SIZE_LARGE_TOOLBAR
