Description:

Description:

The Aurora Gtk Engine themes all common Gtk widgets to provide an attractive, complete and consistent look for Gtk applications.

Engine options

• menubarstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = gradient, 2 = sunken
• curvature = 5 #default widget curvature
• arrowsize = 1 # controls combo_arrow circle size. Diameter set by (11 + 2 * arrowsize)
• old_arrowstyle = FALSE #set to TRUE for original circled arrows (same as arrows in sorted tree columns)
• animation = TRUE # FALSE = disabled, TRUE = enabled (also needs to be compiled with animation support to work)

Included theme uses configurable colours and can be adjusted in Theme Preferences under GNOME.

Thanks to all of you who have provided feedback so far, it has helped catch many things that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. And as always feedback is appreciated.

Known Issues:
• Ugly widgets in: OpenOffice, Java applications
∘ Unfortunately I can't really do anything here to make them look better. I can only hope that their emulation of Gtk themes will improve over time

Installation:
• Gtk 2.12+ is required for this engine
• Must have basic development packages installed for your distribution as well as Gtk2 development package in order to build engine
• Includes both the gtkRc theme, and the Gtk engine

To install the theme engine extract it to somewhere convenient and in that directory,
run: "./configure --prefix=/usr" then "make"
For animation support add "-enable-animation" when running "./configure"
Then as a root user "make install".

Then install the gtkrc theme by extracting to your ~/.themes directory or through the Appearance application.

To change your current theme to Aurora (under GNOME) open up the Appearance application (usually somewhere under System > Preferences) click the Customize button and under the controls tab select the theme you want.

Finally thanks to everyone along the line who have worked on the clearlooks and clearlooks based engines as without their work this engine would not exist.

Now go download and enjoy!

I'm running Zenwalk 5.0 too : no problem to compile.

I'll make a package & propose to the Zen community in the next days ;)

Thanks for the interest. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with my try to compile it? Maybe some dependency, or what?

Sorry about the previous reply. I hadn't seen your second post. I installed your package and it works fine. Thanx.

Truly amazing, this is what I've been looking for. Except that the menu's look totally out of place, they aren't done very well :(

The theme also looks bad on firefox, but well, that isn't because of you.

i love this engine/theme... i have some programs that run with gtk1 and was wondering if there was a way to have aurora work with gtk1 or if there was a porting of the engine for gtk1?

thank you

The binary is named "twf".
You probably need to install it first.
Your distro likely has a package for it.

The forgotten patch is not required since Firefox 2.0 and it's causing bad rendering in FF3.

*Awesome* work.
IMHO, want to point some issues:

1) I use the keyboard a lot, even in GUI's. In this theme, i miss the dashed line indicating the "pre-selection" of icons, that happens when navigating thru CTRL and ARROWS.

Here goes an example in Nautilus with the HUMAN theme:

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?b153c1141e.png

2) There is left unwanted details arround icons that live inside GTK entry boxes.

Hey how do you go about installing this engine in mandriva 2008.0. i had it installed in ubuntu but am having no luck here.

Most impressive theme I've used. Now my favorite. Outstanding job!

Will it be possible to provide menuitem style and arrows similar to Gelatin's theme?

Aurora's menuitem style is a little too plain.

Am I missing something? I successfully followed the installation steps but a lot of applications (eg Synaptic, Network Manager) don't take on the Aurora theme, but have the plain ol' GTK theme. What gives?

Move your theme from ~user/.themes to /usr/share/themes.

OK! First of all Ubuntu is not Linux, just a little distribution in a sea of about 100 or more so please as for Ubuntu 7.10 the next time.

Somebody have packed this engine for Ubuntu so I thing you should go there. Here is the adress:

I love the Aurora-Midnight theme, but it still has some issues with color schemes containing dark on light input boxes. i.e. text_color is darker than base_color.

The most problematic widget is ComboBox.
Adding the following to 'style "theme-combo-box"' gets us part of the way there:
text[NORMAL] = @fg_color
text[PRELIGHT] = @fg_color

However, this only fixes the "button" text, not the list items. They are still dark on dark, instead of light on dark. The same list item problem also affects the ComboBoxEntry widget.

Although I'm no gtkrc expert, I'm certain that these issues are fixable - the clearlooks engine can use this color scheme without issue.

Keep up the good work.

Looking at the latest clearlooks gtkrc, they have an explicit workaround for what appears to be a gtk bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382646

The following should work for Aurora-Midnight:
style "combobox-text-color-workaround"
{
text[NORMAL] = @fg_color
text[ACTIVE] = @fg_color
text[PRELIGHT] = @fg_color
text[SELECTED] = @selected_fg_color
text[INSENSITIVE] = @selected_fg_color
}

widget_class "*.<GtkComboBox>.<GtkCellView>" style "combobox-text-color-workaround"

Report

ferraro

Correction...
To match the similar widgets, text[INSENSITIVE] should be:

text[INSENSITIVE] = shade (1.70,@bg_color)

Report

OK - After further digging into the clearlooks gtkrc, I found a workaround for the dark on dark menu item text in the ComboxBox and ComboBoxEntry widgets. Apparently, this too is a bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382646

To fix this, modify style "theme-menu-item" accordingly:

style "theme-menu-item" = "theme-wider"
{
fg[PRELIGHT] = @selected_fg_color
text[PRELIGHT] = @selected_fg_color

# Work around starts here
text[NORMAL] = @fg_color
text[SELECTED] = @selected_fg_color
text[ACTIVE] = @fg_color
text[INSENSITIVE] = shade (1.70,@bg_color)
}

With these 2 fixes (i.e. this plus the combobox-text-color-workaround) Aurora-Midnight looks perfect with black on white text boxes in twf.

Nice fix. My 'perfect theme' would also take a polished look like aurora, with a dark color scheme like aurora-midnight, AND, dark on light input boxes.

However, i've never seem a set like the one above work flawlessly, i mean, there's always some widget that don't go well with it.

After applying your fix, and changing input boxes colors to #ffffff #000000, i still found some dark on dark text left in the applications:

firefox location bar menu
http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?dd143e231c.png

emesene nickname text
http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?4e7510461d.png

Do you think that it could be fixable thru gtkrc ?
What colors are you actuallly using ?
