Description:

Description:

The Aurora Gtk Engine themes all common Gtk widgets to provide an attractive, complete and consistent look for Gtk applications.

Engine options

• menubarstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = gradient, 2 = sunken
• curvature = 5 #default widget curvature
• arrowsize = 1 # controls combo_arrow circle size. Diameter set by (11 + 2 * arrowsize)
• old_arrowstyle = FALSE #set to TRUE for original circled arrows (same as arrows in sorted tree columns)
• animation = TRUE # FALSE = disabled, TRUE = enabled (also needs to be compiled with animation support to work)

Included theme uses configurable colours and can be adjusted in Theme Preferences under GNOME.

Thanks to all of you who have provided feedback so far, it has helped catch many things that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. And as always feedback is appreciated.

Known Issues:
• Ugly widgets in: OpenOffice, Java applications
∘ Unfortunately I can't really do anything here to make them look better. I can only hope that their emulation of Gtk themes will improve over time

Installation:
• Gtk 2.12+ is required for this engine
• Must have basic development packages installed for your distribution as well as Gtk2 development package in order to build engine
• Includes both the gtkRc theme, and the Gtk engine

To install the theme engine extract it to somewhere convenient and in that directory,
run: "./configure --prefix=/usr" then "make"
For animation support add "-enable-animation" when running "./configure"
Then as a root user "make install".

Then install the gtkrc theme by extracting to your ~/.themes directory or through the Appearance application.

To change your current theme to Aurora (under GNOME) open up the Appearance application (usually somewhere under System > Preferences) click the Customize button and under the controls tab select the theme you want.

Finally thanks to everyone along the line who have worked on the clearlooks and clearlooks based engines as without their work this engine would not exist.

Now go download and enjoy!

Hi!
I've just installed this engine and themes (I especially like M midnight), but buttons which appeared in nautillus are not look like as those green at your pictures above (they resemble rather vista buttons). What I should to do to change them ?

tip: if you set your windows background color to be #E5E3E3 and use a vista style emerald theme+nuoveXT irons, you scream that funcking vista!

Would it possible for you to include some other style options? I like the engine a lot, but felt a bit uncomfortable with the style of the notebook tabs, menubar and handles/resize grip, so i switched for these widgets to the following engines.

notebook - clearlooks (classic style)
menubar - rezlooks (striped menubar)
handles/resize grip/statusbar - clearlooks

Here http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/9446/aurorarezclearmixdi8.png is a screenshot if you are interested to know how it looks like.

The handles etc. are not that necessary, but i really would love to see a option for the striped menubar and maybe for the notebook/notebook tabs.

Nevertheless, great work and very nice engine!

1.4 looks great ! I find it get clearer on every release. Well done.
Glad to see that you fix the system monitor panel applet trouble. :)
there's a very little glitch on search bars, some pixels on the corners of the icons or something like that. Might be easier to see on a bright theme. (could post a screenshot if needed)

keep on the good work.

I have a problem with Aurora 1.4:

Some buttons and widgets have a different curvature (= 2) compared to that set.

With the same theme and Aurora 1.3 not the case.

Here images compared:

With the theme that I use -> http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7492/geditmiokh2.png

With your Aurora-Midnight -> http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=geditsuout1.png

You can tell me what "xyz-theme" deals with the curvature of those widgets?

Thank you.

This requires a little more work than an ordinary theme it's not your fault.

First make sure you have the stuff needed to compile, paste or type this:

sudo apt-get install build-essential libgtk2.0-dev

Then right click on the zip file that you downloaded and choose Extract Here. This will give you two more zip files.. one is the engine the other are some themes.

Right click on aurora-1.4.tar.gz which is the engine zip file and extract that. Then open a terminal and browse to the folder such as

cd Downloads/aurora-1.4

Now follow the instructions above:

./configure --prefix=/usr -enable-animation

make

sudo make install

Now you can pick the other zip file (theme) with System->Prefs->Appearances, click the install button.

Then 'customise' and choose your new look.

You may want to save your old theme first as a backup.

Any tips on how making this engine render faster? When Compiz is on, the window caching make it less painfull to use, but without Compiz its too slow to use everyday.

Thanks!

Perhaps this is cairo problem and may be some optimizations will be made in the future.

I really like this engine. However, the list-headers are glassy while the rest of the widgets have smooth gradients which makes list-headers inconsistent with the rest.

Nevertheless, the widgets at their own look fantastic. Amazing is the proper word.

I would suggest having a variable to choose between glassy or smooth for all the widgets (and providing smooth version for the list-headers and glassy version for the rest of the widgets). I know this is a big amount of work- providing a smooth version of the list-headers would be a nice first target.

I agree that smooth headers would complete the current look.

This should be definitely the default GTK2 engine in GNOME! Great.

Do you have this version in a DEB package?

I'm having the same problem. How did you resolve this?

On the previous page here there are instructions on how to install the needed extra files using sudo. I prefer that they included a pre-compiled package instead like DEB.

Report

Here it is.

sudo apt-get install build-essential libgtk2.0-dev

Report

Worked fine for me, I think the key is you have to have the libgtk2.0-dev package installed. (For future reference <whatever>-dev packages are development packages, you need them for compiling)

I love this engine, but using it crashes Evolution when opening the calendar (in Ubuntu Gutsy at least). There is a bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/175933
which is marked to expire mid Feb 2008.
