Description:

Shiki-Colors mixes the elegance of a dark theme with the usability of a light theme, resulting in a hybrid theme. Shiki is designed to be fast and stable.

There is a Clearlooks version for out-of-the-box compatibility with most distros and a Murrine version for eyecandy and speed.

There are 7 color variations (Orange, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Chocolate, Pink). A matching set of Icons, Wallpapers and GDM themes can also be downloaded separately from gnome-look or at the gnome-colors project page.

You can edit the theme's source (the gtkrc files) for further customization, which is all too easy due to the included instructions.

Must read or clowns will eat you:
* The Murrine version will only work with Murrine 0.90.3 or newer. Yes, you will need to upgrade unless you're using Ubuntu Jaunty.

* The borders are very thin, and titlebars/menubars are unified because of "LOL, ELEGANCE". If you have any difficulty resizing windows, try the included alternate metacity with thicker borders.

* In Ubuntu, for themes (installed through appearance preferences) to be able to theme applications in admin mode, you must type in a terminal:
sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root && sudo ln -s ~/.icons /root

Fedora users can get an installable package of Murrine 0.90.3 (x86) here until is not available in release section:
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1529612/gtk-murrine-engine-0.90.3-1.fc12.i586.rpm

* In Ubuntu, you can use the official PPA repository for easy installation and upgrades. For Ubuntu Karmic Koala, you can simply run apt-get install shiki-colors to install from Ubuntu's universe repositories. The packages are also available in Debian Sid.

* To fix minor Firefox 3 bugs in Shiki-Colors, install the Stylish add-on and go here (or install the included userChrome.css file following the instructions in README):
http://userstyles.org/styles/10822

* Visit the GNOME-Colors project page for bug reports, feature requests, SVN and more downloads:
http://code.google.com/p/gnome-colors/

* Consider donating a small amount to the GNOME-Colors project if you wish to support it, or to show your appreciation. You can do so by clicking on the "donate" button next to the download section.

Hi,

The newest version is not harmonizing with Acrobat Reader, default Ubuntu 8.10 version installed via synaptic:
http://www.box.net/shared/v2otzv9ase
http://www.box.net/shared/c3budidhn3

Before MurrineSVN Upgrade, everything worked like a charm!

When will be the ugly lenghtended lines that are normally occuring around preselected areas finally removed?

With the Clearlooks Version everything works like a charm.

Can you try installing the latest revision, 136, reinstalling the themes by removing them first, logging out and opening adobe again?

If it still looks like that, try opening it in a terminal and let me know if it outputs any error that I should look into.

As for the ugly dotted lines, you have to contact the Murrine developer or use the Clearlooks version. You can use the following page to let him know that there are more people who want this feature implemented: http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/node/126#comments

Hi,

Sorry for my late reply, completely forgot about this issue.

I'm using the 143 version of the murrine engine. I've removed the themes from the .themes folder and downloaded the murrine version of Shiki again. Same problem as before.

When starting Acrobat Reader from terminal, I see the following message:

OOO@OOO:~$ acroread
/home/sojusnik/.themes/Shiki-Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:124: error: unexpected identifier `progressbarstyle', expected character `}'

Alright, then it is a problem with Acrobat Reader itself not being able to work with all parameters of the latest murrine engine.

You can remove all instances of "progressbarstyle" from shiki-colors to make it work, but then progressbars might not look as intended. It might be best to either file a bug with Adobe or with the murrine developer.

Strangly, the preferences window of Acrobat Reader looks unharmonious, only this window, everything else in acrobat looks nice, with the Clearlooks Version:

Shiki Dark with the green tones is a personal favorite. But I lament that the menu selection is a tone of black. It must be green like in Shiki Wise - please :)

What is Shiki Dark? I don't think I have a theme by that name.

I created two restore-buttons for the metacity theme.
In case you wanna use them:

Anyway, great theme. Thanks for sharing.

First of all: thank you for this excellent theme. I'm using it with great pleasure. - Unfortunately I'm observing two minor problems, concerning the GNOME panel:

1) the Network-Manager-Applet (gnome-netstatus-applet 2.12.2) doesn't show the dark color of the theme, but remains light grey

2) the GNOME revelation-applet shows a very light grey color for the font in its search bar, therefore the search text cannot be seen

I'm using the theme with compiz deactivated and the composite-feature in metacity turned on.

Is there a way to fix these small problems?

Hey, I found a way to fix the issue with the netapplet, I will upload it in the future. As for the gnome revelation applet, I haven't been able to find information or the product page, so I can't install it in order to fix the problem.

Thank you, I'm looking forward to your fix for the netapplet. The website of GNOME revelation (the GNOME2 Password manager) is here: http://oss.codepoet.no/revelation/ - unfortunately ist seems to be down.

Help! I am having this really weird problem with Nautilus ans Shiki (Clearlooks as well as MurrineSVN!, Debin Testing): When trying to drag and drop files from one Nautilus window to another, the screen starts FLASHING, and the system becomes unusable for a couple of seconds...

Seems as I am the only one having that one, but I like Shiki and want to keep it, but not for the price of drag and drop...

Can you try using the default clearlooks theme and see if the problem persists? I doubt the GTK theme will influence what you're mentioning, so it's possible the issue lies with your graphic card drivers or something else. Also, try rebooting your system if all else fails.

I'm desperately sorry...it really is some other issue. This is now kinda off-topic, but if anyone got some good ideas on how to debug this, I'd really appreciate it :)

I love the scrollbars from version 2.1. How can I get these scrollbars back on 2.5? Thanks.

Report

C

You can get them by using the MurrineSVN version. You'll need to install the latest revision, though (I've got download links in the theme description).

Report

matteogazzoni

may I ask why in the latest murrine-svn version the scrollbars are broader?

Report

C

perfectska04

It's broader for usability reasons. Many users with high-res displays or laptops found the old ones unconfortable. However, you can always edit the width to your liking by editing the GTKRC file.

It's the line that says "# Scrollbar width".

wouldn't be great if you moved to Launchpad, offering a couple of packages (murrine-svn, icons, gtk etc) through a ppa ?
