Description:

This is the Tango Project's icon set which I unofficially packaged.
It's a very pleasant set of icons.
Frankly, I got sick of the blue icons, so I repackaged all the latest icons with the original sleek gray icons, with the dark blue tabs. This is a much more chic look than the blue.

In the screenshot:
Metacity: Unity
Gtk: ish-dark

This icon theme requires Tango.
If you don't want to use Tango, remove it from the list of inherited icons in index.theme
Last changelog:

2007/03/30:
Updated package with new index.theme file. Removed dependency of gnomecrystalsvg (sorry should have done that earlier!).
The current icon packages that this depends are now 'Tango, gnome'.
I personally insert 'Bluecurve' between Tango and gnome in that list.

No problem. Unfortunately, probably because of a few complaints about gray folders, the Tango project went the wrong way with the weak blue color they're using now, IMO.
All the other icons are great, and with the old folders this is still my favorite icon set.

This is the best icon theme I have seen. The only thing about it that I'd like to see done differently is the huge overlay icons my links are getting, examples at http://www.aphax.nl/images/tango-link.png and http://www.aphax.nl/images/tango-link-list.png

Can I make the overlay icons smaller?

The clearlooks and blended-select window borders look sweet with these tango icons. Check it out for yourself.

I agree. Very slick.

Strangely though, the windows are much darker than bvc's screenshots, which looked much better.

I really like this theme, but I think the trash icon needs changing or significant improvement.

I'm not so sure what to think of the Trash icon either. It is true that having *everything* in the blue color makes the icon theme rather dull, but I'm not really fond of this green thing sticking out either. Perhaps if there were more green desktop icons it could bring things into balance though.

I don't know what kind of improvement you mean, but I personally love the contrast the trash icons have because they are green. Many lively colors make this icon set a very un-boring one.

To me it just doesn;t seem to fit in well with the rest of the icons.

I completely agree with bmzf. The trash icon brings a much needed piece of contrast to all the blue folders. I even believe the web browser (firefox) icon should have some color contrast as well.

Hey,
Nice Theme. I was just wondering what the Metacity theme (or whatever is running) was ?

Thanks!

Actually, I'm not sure what the metacity in the new screenshot is since I just used the image from the Tango project's web site.

I'd have to agree with all of you that the older folder icons had more personality. The dark blue tab on the gray folders really made it quite nice.
However, the new set still seems to work nicely and it's still very clean and the icons work great together.

The emblem for symbolic links is like twice the size it should be. I hope they fix that.

Thanxs for packaging this. One thing about 0.5 is that the emblem for symbolic links is too big, this should be fixed in the .theme file. Other that that, thanxs for the effort.

The icons are simple in design. Not flashy. Easy on the eyes. And it may just be me, but my workspace feels more open using them. Maybe because my senses are not cluttered with bold strange designs that are there for looks and not functionality.

I do however kind of miss the folder icons from the previous version. Maybe if they could add a little yellow label or something to the edge just as the grey folders had a purple like label. Just something subtle that keeps it from being all blue.

Thanks for packaging it up! Guess I am going to have to modify Vega to match.

It's not all blue, the whole backside is striped black... I think adding a colored tab would be overkill now. At first I was skeptical since I liked the old folders very much, but now I love the new ones.

Also keep in mind that this is primarily meant to be a base icon set. Once it is complete, it should be trivial for example to do a custom theme which simply replaces the folder icons.

There are some very nice icons among the set but some of the others almost hurt the eyes! In particular the folder icon needs improving as you see it far too often for it to be bearable...

Sorry - this isn't really your problem as you just ported them. Just my opinion.
