What was the last version it worked with? I'll give it another run through in the next couple of days, but I haven't made any significant code changes recently which should have this effect. I'm away from my development box right now, but if I can reproduce it it should be sorted soon. Thanks for pointing out all these bugs!

oh and another thing i just figured, gimp doesn't seem to have an application icon

That's probably another download error. You can try running it again or running 'rm -rf ~/.tango-generator' and then re-running. I'm going to have to look into download robustness, I fear.

first of all id like to say, awsome app you've written! but there are a few things id like to say here, with the most recent version, i have the following probs (feisty & gnome 2.18):

with they gray folders, the emblems are still at the wrong position (top left instead of bottom left)
openoffice.org are broken i guess or doesnt work with the version i am using
some icons are too big e.g in gaim the 'view user log' icon

but besides that, evrything works flawless. great job!

I'll look into the Open Office and Gaim (now pidgin!) bugs. What version numbers of these apps are you using?

For OpenOffice, you need to set the icons to industrial for the generator to work if you haven't already done so. I think I understand the causes of the other issues, and I'll do my best to get back with a fix.

If you're running an Ubuntu install, I can fix the generator up with icons for most apps that don't have them if you post the package names.

Thanks for the detailed replies.

oh yeah, and by the way, i purged all the openoffice stuff and reinstalled it, and now the tango theme is working perfectly!

The emblem positions are based around the preferences of the highest priority theme which contains the appropriate information. Make sure you have the GNOME icons checked, although you should be able to move it down a bit.

Still on my gentoo box, it appears it doesn't ask the root password as before.
So impossible to install the special tango package, gaim, openoffice, etc

PS: I reemerged gnomesu

Report

This is probably because of the timeout for gksu, and the generator is actually installing the correct things and automatically being granted permission by the gksu backend.

Well, I unmerged gnomesu, remerged gksu, libgksu and sudo to be sure i wasn't missing a specific library - and it was the case for sudo.

I configured sudo, i granted my user account all privileges to run all commands.

Well, that doesn't still work on my gentoo box. I remember that in the last version, the first time i launched TG, i had a dialog-box asking my root password.

Anyway, just so you know, that's really a great job you did.

Two bugs I've noticed with the latest release:

- The "Lock" Icon in the status bar of Epiphany browser for visiting secure websites draws "Huge" like 36x36 or 48x48 and the status bar becomes gigantic.

- The "Danger Sign" which is the orange triangle with exclamation mark does not scale properly in the Delete or Save Dialog box (seems like the 16x16 version is being blown up to 32x32 and looks horribly pixelated)

Other than that, great job! Great utility

I can't seem to reproduce either of these bugs, but they could well have occured if icons failed to download. Try running 'rm -rf ~/.tango-generator' and trying again. How do you produce the delete dialog box?

Report

to produce the "Danger Sign" Icon, open gedit, type a few words, close gedit and look at the save changes dialog icon.

I still get the issue with the lock icon though :(

What Gnome version are you using? As far as I can tell, your network connection is dropping out part way through the generation. You could try waiting a day or so to see if it fixes itself, and then running again as I instructed. Other than that, I can't do much to help since I'm unable to reproduce the problem on any of 2 systems or 5 virtual machines.

Report

Suraia

I can reproduce this with GNOME 2.18.0.

The problem with the lock icon seems to be fixed, but the warning sign is still pixelated.

I used the following icon themes (in that order): Custom Application Icons, Custom Mime Types, GTK Stock Icons, Gnome, Tango, Tango Unabashed, Tango Common

Really nice tool, by the way. :-)

Report

Not too sure why it would cause it, but try putting GTK Stock Icons below Gnome. It's a relatively incomplete set since it only includes icons in standard GTK sizes, so you probably shouldn't have it that high up anyway.

Sorry for the noise, I just noticed that this happens with all icon themes. Seems to be an Ubuntu bug.

The issue with the lock icon seems to be fixed after I redownloaded a third time.

By the way, how did you do to solve the emblems position issue? That's a thing I still haven't figure out, there is not that much documentations about that.

It was a strange bug of x-directory-normal taking precedence as the default directory icon, which was a link only included in tango foxtrot and therefore didn't have any emblem data associated with it (only gnome and tango unabashed contain emblem data at the moment).
