Description:

nuoveXT is an icon theme for GNOME and KDE.

This is my first attempt of creating an icon theme. There is still a lots to do, but I thought I could share what I've done so far. Made entirely with Inkscape.

A big THANKS to:

- Inkscape: what a great tool! :D
- Ubuntu, Linux and Open Source in general
- All the other GNOME and KDE artists who have inspired me and specially everaldo (http://www.everaldo.com/) which is, I think, simply the best icon designer out there ;-)
- Open Clip Art Library (http://openclipart.org/).
- DeviantArt: One of the best place for inspiration and artworks.
- pwsp.net for hosting my project.

Constructive feedbacks are more than welcome ;-)

Enjoy!

Someone said it best in a previous post saying that this needs to be the default gnome icon set. Especially if you continue these update making it more and more robust. :]

Also in this last update that you added kaffeine and amaroK icons .... I JUST LOVE YOU! :]

Can I request a GIMP icon in your next update?

Thanks for your comment ;-)
Gimp icon is now in version 1.4. However,
it does not replace the default icon, at least on my Ubuntu box. If someone can help me with this one?!

Yes, I have the same problem on Ubuntu, icons like Gimp, root-terminal, gnomebaker-48.png dont want to be replaced if changing the theme

The icons are really great, and being so complete makes it all the better. However, since it was made with inkscape, it would be much cooler to have the SVG version.

I know some artists are reluctant to release the SVG version, but maybe you could release it under the artistic license or something.

Well, anywayz, keep up the good work.

More suggestions:
- "Make all upgrades" icon for Synaptic
- Gnumeric icon, Character Map icon, xine icon

I forgot to mention that "Quit" and "Cancel" button use the same icon (Red Circle with white X in the middle). I have encountered 1 or 2 dialogs with both buttons with identical icons.

I would like to request a new volume control and netstatus applet!

In addition take a look at this shot from gedit:

http://elysium.dnsalias.net/web/gedit.jpg

The undo/redo button seem a bit too small and hard to see compared to everything else. Also the copy icon for example has very light and soft edges and is almost disolved in the background. Btw this is on an LCD screen so I don't know how differetn it would be on CRT. I know this iconset probably isn't meant for every possible theme and colorscheme out there but some of the icons blend a little too well against light colored backgrounds.

Thank you for the maybe best theme out here... very destinctive
Matches my Ubuntu Human theme really perfectly.

Just a suggestion, the Gaim icon looks too small in the Gnome panel, compared with firefox, evolution...

Also would be nice if you could create some e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse logos as replacement for the gnome foot. Maybe you could put them in an extra folder for those that wish it. Ok, your gnome icon looks really good, but i have my own two to put one more on my desktop

Also a gimp, inkscape, lyx, ps-viewer icon, root-terminal, as well as some replacement for the ugly default gnome applet icons such as netstatus, battery status, volume control would be nice.

The bmp-icon's color looks not really nice in the gnome panel, near of the lighter firefox and evolution.

Thank you again!

I don't much care for the navigation stock icons, but that's just a matter of taste. Mostly, it is very good. It needs some more mime types (notably application/x-python), and a new home icon. Also, if it's made in inkscape, could you provide the scalable icons?

I don't have words to describe it!! It's simply THE BEST icon set for the GNOME desktop. Has take a long and hard work i suppose, but the result is very IMPRESSIVE. Now i've a question for you: " Sei italiano?"

I think this is bar none the best icon set availble for GNOME -- in fact, I think it should be the default one. It's very professional and modern and still not over-the-top.

That said, I think some of the names might be incorrect; for instance in Nautilus, my "up" icon was properly replaced, but the back and forward icons are still the old ones. Any chance this could be fixed?

Thanks and keep up the great work...

Yes, the back and forward buttons have been fixed, but now the firefox and rhythmbox icons are back to the regular gnome icons again. They were fine in the 1.1 release though.

Besides that, good job! I love it!

I simply forgot to put them in the archive ;-( The Kde package has them though. So you could check the kde package or wait for the next release (next weekend probably) ;-)

It would be great if the next release had the new stock icon names so that they all work for those that are on gnome 2.10. A good theme to get the names from is gperfection2. These are great!

I must congratulate you on a really excellent icon theme. One question I have to ask. Is it not counter intuitive to have the folders standing upright instead of in the normal orientation? Although the look is unique; the physical realism (i.e. the effect of gravity) is lost in the current orientation. I get the feeling that I should be expecting things to be falling out of the folders.
Crazy I know...
