Description:

this is a suggestion for GNOME 3 or even earlier: why not have everything but the focused window/menu/object darkened a bit, causing the focused window/menu/object to look "illuminated"?

it would be much more focused and visally ordered than the normal way, and would make desktop clutter somewhat less of a problem.

as content I have put a mockup of the idea.

Good idea, although the panel and wallpaper should not get shaded IMO.

if your using xorg, it has an extention called COMPOSITE that does this as well as shading on windows (think "mac OSX")

although it is still experimental, and runs pretty crappy right now in my own experiance.

Really nice idea, but I think the panel ought to stay at normal brightness, because otherwise users will feel like the ability to switch between windows using the taskbar is 'disabled'.

I don't use the 'spatial' Nautilus, but does this have some implications for it - could windows lower down the folder heirachy be darker than those higher up - or would that just be confusing?

Very Good Idea..
Also make it so the user can adjust the shading or turn it off on certain windows.
Cheers,
Bandit
