No. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Do you mean that there's a bug in opacify that makes windows not being opacified some times and that you think a delay would be a workround for that bug?

I can't test myself since I use compiz 9.2 and opacify doens't work with it. :( Do deselecting "use smooth fade in/fade out" help at all?

No, that's not a bug.I'm using compiz 0.8.6 on Maverick and Opacize works correctly.
Mine was just a suggestion to improve usability of this feature.
I try to explain better: although i use often workspaces, sometimes i put several window on the same workspace beacuse i need them there (often just to see something as text, documents, etc..) and it's annoying to change every time workspace to see them. So the plugin Opacize is helpful because it shows me windows quickly. But eneabling the plugin in DockbarX, the opacification is applyed immediatly when i over the preview window. So, in daily use, it's annoying becasue the desktop "flicker" every time i select a window using the preview. I'd like to opacize the windows only when i need, and to do this, a way could be to keep the mouse over the preview window for a second or two.
So a delay [tunable according preference] beetween the hovering of the mouse and the beginning of the plugin could be the way to do this.
I know that's not easy to implement (and there are problem such as compiz 9.2, that does not allow to use "opacize" properly, and the future of Gnome with gtk3) but if it's possible, at least to me it would be great!

[sorry for my english but i'm italian - i hope i was understable]

I love DockBarX as dock, mostly because it is similar to the dock of Unity. The only thing missing is you have the option to auto hide...

However, good job!

Autohide will come in the next version. Probably.

I just upgraded to 0.44 this morning and now DockbarX won't show up in either AWN or Gnome Panel. In AWN, the applet begins to load, but then disappears. In Gnome Panel, the applet loads, but no icons show up. I can access the right-click menu if I guess correctly where the applet is.

Do you have any errors in ~/.dockbarx/log/dockbarx.log?

Thanks. You seems to have one none working theme and there's a spelling error in the error handler. I will wait a few days to see if any more bugs comes in and and then make a bug fix release. Right now you can fix this bug by edit the file /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/dockbarx/theme.py by running

sudo gedit /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/dockbarx/theme.py

and in row 160 change exeption to exception.

Does it work with GNOME3 panel? What packages does it require for this (if yes)?

No, it doesn't work in gnome3 panel yet. Next release hopefully. I found a document on how to turn gnome2 applets into gnome3 applet but the instructions weresn't written specifically for applet written in python so...

Greetings:
When I try to run Dockx on Debian Testing, I get this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/ usr / bin / Dockx", line 33, in <module>

ImportError: No module named Xlib

Report

sudo apt-get install python-xlib

If you use the WebUpd8 PPA, that missing dependency has been fixed so update and it should work.

I'm not sure where to report my problem but here it is:
Using xfapplet I'm able to add dockbarx to the xfce panel and it is displayed but when I logout and log back in again xfapplet doesn't seem to load dockbarx properly and you have to manually add it yourself again.
Using Xubuntu 11.04.

Hello,

I use the bzr version of DockbarX in Arch linux (forced by the recent removal of GNOME 2 stuff) and run it in the standalone mode.

However, the trouble is that in the standalone mode one of the major advantages disappears, since I have to keep _another_ panel for other functions (at least notification area, start menu for non-pinned apps, logout, cpu&network activity).

With GNOME 2 integration, everything resided in a single panel, which was excelent.

A partial solution would be if DockbarX does not extend itself to the whole screen width. Then, the two panels (DocbarX + whatever else) could live next to each other in a single row.

Any other ideas or even plans?

P.S. Note that I cannot use AWN since it requires hw acceleration/compositing, which does not work via remote desktop (NX, x2go, etc.)

Thanks for the great applet! We've been using it in Zorin OS for over a year now and it's great!
There is a serious enough bug in the new Ubuntu 11.04 version (in GNOME classic mode) with the window previews in DockbarX. When I enable the KDE Compatibility Compiz plugin and enable the window previews in DockbarX the preview appears behind the popup which is a problem. Here is a screenshot of the issue: http://goo.gl/ha234
I hope it helps.

Once again, thank you for this applet!

This is a bug in compiz. There's nothing to do but wait until the compiz team makes this bug a priority, I'm afraid. (unless you're a programer with knowlegde in C and can help the compiz devs with problem of course.)

I have my dockbarx as a AWN plugin in a vertical dock (Archlinux x86_64). When I have multiple windows open, and hover over the group button to see the window previews, they are spread out horizontally. Is there an option to have them spread out vertically?

Thanks so much for the program. I was afraid with GNOME2 about to go away, I wouldn't be able to use it any more, but it's so versatile, I guess I'll be able to use it some way for a long time to come.

Since version 0.42 they have been spread out vertically if the dock is vertical, what version are you using?

Regarding gnome 2 and what not... The next version of DockbarX will be able to run as a stand-alone dock so it should be possible to use it with gnome 3 without the need of running whole big AWN (it will be very basic though, nothing fancy).

I am using r385 from bzr on Arch Linux x86_64. I don't know if this could have any effect but I did edit some of the values in the theme, but I wouldn't think the theme would have that type of control.

I maintain the dockbarx and dockbarx-bzr packages for Arch, and when I pushed a recent upgrade, I removed python-gnomecanvas and then all the gnome-panel and bonobo dependencies. Could not having one of those installed be causing this?

Thanks for your help

Ok, this was a bug. A fix is committed. Thanks for reporting.

Good to see more people who uses the bzr. I'm in big need of more beta testers. Please contiune to report any bug you find, preferably at launchpad.
