Hello there, I'm running ArchLinux and recently did a system update which broke a few things among them Dockbarx which when I run it in a window produces the following:

dockbarx_factory.py run-in-window
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/dockbarx_factory.py", line 21, in <module>
import pygtk
ImportError: No module named pygtk

Maybe you can help.

Before the system update it was working fine. Something must of broke it.

Anyhow thanks in advance

Congratulations, is very great dockbarx, thank you, is very useful.
I have a suggest what it could be added, when arrow mouse is over totem or vlc dock, we can watch the video in a small window, it will be great to add button to make it show all the time, then i can use the browser watching movie on dock, for exemple.
Thank you

I, i've installed succesfully dockbarx under Xfce using Xfapplets but i can't see the windows' preview, i've activated the option, but in the form they don't appear why?

You need to use compiz for previews.

Thank you so much for developing this; I love it! I just wish the opacify feature would allow the user to set exceptions, as currently, it includes windows like conky (which doesn't even appear on the window list). Besides this, and the square window previews you've addressed in a previous comment, I love this and enjoy using it!

I guess it should be quite easy to exclude windows that doesn't appear in window list from opacify. If that's preferable is another question, perhaps it should be only decoration-less windows that aren't in the windowlist that should be excluded?

Minimize and maximize actions would be more recognizable if there were icons like this:

Building fails because you forgot to change this:

data_files=[('/usr/share/dockbarx/themes', ['themes/default.tar.gz',
'themes/Gaia.tar.gz',
'themes/old.tar.gz',
'themes/minimalistic.tar.gz',
'themes/sunny-c.tar.gz',
'themes/new_theme.tar.gz', ]),

And as a result, I get:

error: can't copy 'themes/default.tar.gz': doesn't exist or not a regular file

Report

I guess I can fix it by replacing the default theme with the new name:

themes/dbx.tar.gz

Thanks for reporting! I guess I rushed the release in the end. It's fixed now.

I don't know if you have already noticed that but, on maximized windows (both 4:3 and 16:9 monitors), the pop-up preview leaves two blank spaces (above and below the preview) like if its height was out of proportions. Could this be fixed in the nest release?

It would be great too if you could integrate the sound applet buttons (similar to what Windows 7 does with WMP12) into the pop-up and the Appmenu (a.k.a. Global Menu or the menubar) to appear in the right-click menu. I think things like these are possible to do in Gnome capacities, so maybe you could get them to work.

For now the popup area is always square. So there are empty spaces either at the sides or top and bottom always if the window isn't absolutely square. A redesign of the window list is quite high on the todo list now that 0.40 has been released.

Sound menu could be integrated either via panflute backend or via mpris, but I haven't look much into either so I don't know how to implement it yet. It's quite low priority right now.

I'm not really sure what you mean with integrating appmenu. I will look into dockmanager to see if I could use it to get similar "helpers" as docky and awn has. I will also look into adding indicators from the indicator applets to DockbarX. It should be possible since the indicators use a dbus-backend (it was not possible to do this with the normal notification area). Is it something like this you meant? The dockmanager integration is quite high priorityl

I have a feature request that would be unbearably cool and loved.
I’m tired of notification area ("system tray") icons, and I disabled all of them on my machine. But the menu they bring with them is cool and missed.
So, it’s about integrating the notification area icon that some apps have into dockbarx icons, but only the right click menu functionality, so I would have the tray icon’s menu (let’s say, on the VLC icon) on the right/middle click on the dockbarx icon. I guess the user would need to manually link dockbarx to the right tray icon?, I don’t know, and that sucker should then disappear; and yes, I know this stuff should be addressed by gnome itself altogether, but this is the reason I propose it, because if this was real now and not in 5 years, it would be a great way to cope with it, even better than the Win7 custom menu stuff - albeit a bit hackish. I don’t have any idea about how you could implement the "relaying", but I guess this would be a really top dockbarx feature.
Let me dream :-)
Anyone likes this idea?

I've been thinking about adding something like this from the beginning and there's been a few feature requests about it as well. It's not possible with notification area, as far as I know but it should be doable with ubuntu's application indicators, which can be accessed via gconf.

This is one of the features I want to introduce before dockbarx 0.50. Dockbarx 0.40 should be released quite soon and then I'll begin adding new features again.

I must say this is a beautiful little application, some might say replicates Windows 7 behaviour, I say improves user experience.
Anyways I am using it with Awn, and one thing i miss is the icon mode. Dockbarx acts as a different window altogether (this is how awn apples are supposed to word), but i would really like to see different launchers behaving as if they were icons on the Awn, with animation, hover effects and everything.
Dockbarx has become quite stable now, so i think now the roadmap should be integrating it with other docks and the eyecandies.
But none the less, thanks for this great app.

Dockbarx is a great addon to AWN, but it should looks like an AWN applet and not like an alien addon. Icon mode is needed!

Hi, first the problem which I solved (I am not even sure, if dockbarx has been the reason for the problem):

After installing Dockbarx with ppa, my software-center didn't work any more cause some rights had been changed.

Solved by: sudo chmod 644 /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic

Now the problem which I was not able to solve: When I am using Rhythmbox and press close, the program does not vanish completly. It only minimizes. (Without playing music, it works right)

Would be nice, if somebody can solve that problem.

best regards

PS: I am using Dockbarx with AWN

FINALLY SOLVED!!
Removing or completely removing from synaptic always led to the same problem, version 0.39.6-1 showing in the About dialog and Properties window not working and giving the error above.
Here's what I did:
1 - uninstall from synaptic
2 - manually install from 101604-dockbarx_0.39.8.tar.gz
3 - now it works but it doesn't show as installed in synaptic
4 - go to synaptic and install
5 - TA-DA!! Now everythyng is fine (0.39.8 showing in about dialog)

Except, next time you update via the ppa, the version will still be x.0.38.

The problem is that the files are installed in multiple places and the manually installed version is prioritized over the one installed from ppa. Do the manual install again with force and verbose flags, see where the files goes and delete them (I guess it should be /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/). that should remove the manually installed stuff. Then delete any Dockbarx files in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages, that should be where the ppa used to install the files. The new files from ppa should be in /usr/pyshared, I think.

I know this is a mess. The install functions will probably be rewritten after version 0.40.
