Description:

Now it's easy to customize your desktop!

Conky is a free, light-weight system monitor for X, that displays any information on your desktop.

CONKY-colors is an easier way to configure Conky.

This conky script support multilanguage:
Bulgarian, English, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian

How to install
Go to a terminal and type:
$sudo apt-get install aptitude python-statgrab python-keyring ttf-ubuntu-font-family hddtemp curl lm-sensors conky-all
$sudo chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp || https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75639
$sudo sensors-detect #answering Yes (default) to all questions, even that last one that defaults to No

Now restart your session

Download and extract the conky-colors.zip and type in terminal in the same directory that has been extracted.
$make
$sudo make install
$conky-colors {options}

$conky-colors --help [for help]

Ex: if your cpu is quad-core and you want the noble color, with hd, network and pidgin monitor and all in portuguese
conky-colors --theme=gnome-noble --lang=pt --cpu=4 --network --hd=default --pidgin

For a working photo widget you need to specify a file or directory in conkyPhoto or conkyPhotoRandom script in ~/.conkycolors/bin/

Update your font cache:
$sudo fc-cache -v -f

Conky Banshee Script: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7683570
+++ If you can, say thanks to him for this great work +++

in terminal type conky -c ~/.conkycolors/conkyrc.

To run conky at startup, go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications, click "Add" and add the path to the conkyStart file[/usr/share/conkycolors/bin/conkystart]

that's all folks!

OPTIONS FROM THE SCREENSHOT:
conky-colors --cpu=2 --calendar --photord --clementine=cd --hd=default --network --theme=wise
conky-colors --sls --weather=brxx0043 --theme=orange
conky-colors --cairo --cpu=2 --clock=cairo --network --theme=blue
conky-colors --ring --network --theme=red
conky-colors --slim --w=1440 --h=900 --theme=white --weather=brxx0043
conky-colors --board --w=1440 --h=900 --theme=cyan

KWON PROBLEMS:
Lua/bash scripts work with conky 1.8.1, but most of the python scripts still doesnt;
SLS MODE only work with lm-sensors configured
The position of the photo and cover may be wrong bc in ubuntu the space between the widgets is different from Archlinux (I'm an arch user now)

Alright then, i'll keep her at the right side :)
Sorry for asking this noob question, my network monitoring is still not working. I added "--network --ppp=0" for the option (my device is ppp0). Oh yes, and my rythmbox won't display any cover too, i added --rythmbox=case for the option.

Download the conky again, i made some changes, i think it will detect correctly your internet device now, if don't try to use --ppp=1 or --ppp=2 option.
Rhythmbox sometimes work and sometimes dont, I don't made this script, maybe you could find more info with the creator: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=969521 :(. you could try the --covergloobus option, it's basicly a empty space that you can adjust to use with the real covergloobus app.

Just in case.
The new cairo mode only work with some options, there is no cover support yet. Check the --help to know all the options.

I've noticed that conky gives out an error 'ERROR: Issue calling the dbus service:'dbus.Array' object has no attribute 'find'' when ever a song comes up that has a known album. If the song doesn't have a known album then it works perfectly. Hope this helps for debuggers :)

Out of curiosity.. would/could we modify your python (conkyHD2) so it also includes the mnt folder as it does for devices?

Report

HarshReality

9 years ago

Resolved!
Edited your python script simply adding/copying the media section (I use HD2)

# folder in /mnt
for device in os.listdir("/mnt/"):
if (not device.startswith("cdrom")) and (os.path.ismount('/mnt/'+device)):
# start calculation dec value (for the pie chart symbol)
statb = subprocess.Popen('stat -f -c %b "/mnt/'+device+'"', shell=True, stdout=subprocess.PIPE,)
statb_value = statb.communicate()[0]
statf = subprocess.Popen('stat -f -c %f "/mnt/'+device+'"', shell=True, stdout=subprocess.PIPE,)
statf_value = statf.communicate()[0]
total = int(statb_value)
used = total - int(statf_value)
dec = (((used * 100) / total) + 5) / 10
if dec > 9:
icon = "0"
elif dec < 1:
icon = "A"
else:
icon = str(dec)
# end calculation dec
print "${voffset 4}${color0}${font Pie charts for maps:size=14}"+icon+"${font}${color} ${voffset -5}"+device.capitalize()+": ${font Liberation Sans:style=Bold:size=8}${color1}${fs_free_perc /mnt/"+device+"}%${color}${font} ${alignr}${color2}${fs_free /mnt/"+device+"}${color}"

Can't get this to work on the development version of Ubuntu. I get the following terminal output:

Conky: one or more $endif's are missing
Conky: desktop window (220001f) is subwindow of root window (ab)
Conky: window type - override
Conky: drawing to created window (0x4400001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer
^CConky: received SIGINT or SIGTERM to terminate. bye!

Nothing seems to show up at all, but conky with no conkyrc works. Let me know if I can provide more information.

i think u are trying to do exec this commands out of the folder of conky-colors.
For example if you extracted conky-colors onto your desktop, this is how you navigate using the terminal to the conky-colors folder:

cd ~/Desktop/conky-colors

But! --exaile=cairo it isn't working! Here is the line that conky shows me in the terminal:

ERROR: Issue calling the dbus service:'dbus.Array' object has no attribute 'find'

i don't know what it means! I hope I can help!

Hi, thank you for such a great work. I've just installed conky and conky-colors and they're great. But there is small problem with bin/conkyMPD script. It uses mpd conky variables (such as $mpd_album and others) that are not defined in this shell script. As the result all I get in conky are '(null)' for all mpd stats.
Hope you will fix it. Anyway, ty again =)

Report

KL-7

Oh, sorry. I've looked again on this script. It just prints variables' names, but not their values. That's ok.

But I still have the problem with this script. It shows only '(null)'s instead of all mpd_ values.

And absolutely strange thing is that everything became ok if I add $mpd_status (or any other mpd_ variable) right after '${execpi 10 ~/.conkycolors/bin/conkyMPD}' line in my .conkyrc. In this case conky shows all mpd info: mpd status (from variable I've added) and than output from your script. And if I remove line I've just added and restart conky I get '(null)'s again =( I know this sounds crazy, but may be you know what can be wrong with it?
