Description:

Now it's easy to customize your desktop!

Conky is a free, light-weight system monitor for X, that displays any information on your desktop.

CONKY-colors is an easier way to configure Conky.

This conky script support multilanguage:
Bulgarian, English, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian

How to install
Go to a terminal and type:
$sudo apt-get install aptitude python-statgrab python-keyring ttf-ubuntu-font-family hddtemp curl lm-sensors conky-all
$sudo chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp || https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75639
$sudo sensors-detect #answering Yes (default) to all questions, even that last one that defaults to No

Now restart your session

Download and extract the conky-colors.zip and type in terminal in the same directory that has been extracted.
$make
$sudo make install
$conky-colors {options}

$conky-colors --help [for help]

Ex: if your cpu is quad-core and you want the noble color, with hd, network and pidgin monitor and all in portuguese
conky-colors --theme=gnome-noble --lang=pt --cpu=4 --network --hd=default --pidgin

For a working photo widget you need to specify a file or directory in conkyPhoto or conkyPhotoRandom script in ~/.conkycolors/bin/

Update your font cache:
$sudo fc-cache -v -f

Conky Banshee Script: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7683570
+++ If you can, say thanks to him for this great work +++

in terminal type conky -c ~/.conkycolors/conkyrc.

To run conky at startup, go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications, click "Add" and add the path to the conkyStart file[/usr/share/conkycolors/bin/conkystart]

that's all folks!

OPTIONS FROM THE SCREENSHOT:
conky-colors --cpu=2 --calendar --photord --clementine=cd --hd=default --network --theme=wise
conky-colors --sls --weather=brxx0043 --theme=orange
conky-colors --cairo --cpu=2 --clock=cairo --network --theme=blue
conky-colors --ring --network --theme=red
conky-colors --slim --w=1440 --h=900 --theme=white --weather=brxx0043
conky-colors --board --w=1440 --h=900 --theme=cyan

KWON PROBLEMS:
Lua/bash scripts work with conky 1.8.1, but most of the python scripts still doesnt;
SLS MODE only work with lm-sensors configured
The position of the photo and cover may be wrong bc in ubuntu the space between the widgets is different from Archlinux (I'm an arch user now)

No problem =) Using your layout for mpd and some googling I've written my own python script that adds album cover to mpd info. But the problem is the same: if there are no any references to mpd_* variables in .conkyrc itself than all mpd_* variables from external script are displayed as '(null)'. And when I add '${if_mpd_playing}' to .conkyrc than all variables from my external script are treated correctly.

It's really strange, but I don't think the problem is with conky-colors. May be it's a minor conky's bug or my own specific problem =)

Let me just tell you that I fucking adore you for the bloody damn awesome work you are doing with Conky Colors! I've been using it for ages now as a base for further customizations - and the --cairo option almost makes my life complete!

Again, thank you sooooo much!

I use your conky since u did the first one! It's just amazing!

Now, i'm trying cairo version... but! I have 4cpu's, and it is really annoying because it takes up almost the entire screen.

It would be great to have an option (a flag) that I can use just one ring for these 4 cpu's.

Sorry for my english, I did my best! I'm from Argentina :)

Again, GREAT JOB, I'm fan of your work!

Did you try changing the window type to default?

Yeah I tried transparency for a while, but I had a lot of problems too. You know you can make menus transparent with compiz if you want.

Report

josito

9 years ago

yes, but I don't want to install compiz, make the system too slow
I prefer conky over tranparency ;)

Hi all,
I've succesfully installed conky-colors but can't get --covergloobus to work. I've got it installed and configured to work with exaile3 (0.3.2.0) but nothing appears in the media player section of conky. So I've tried --exaile=cd, but the script can't get the cover from the latest versions of exaile, there seems to be a problem with the dbus implementation in exaile. Do you have any suggestion?

Report

C

helmuthdu

Yes, in fact it's a empty space there... u must run covergloobus separeted from conky, for some reason i can't exec it directly from conky.

You can report any problem with the Kaivalagi scripts at lauchpad: https://code.launchpad.net/~m-buck

Greetings

Could you add Frugalware to the logo list ? (it's already in OpenLogo font)

conkyPhotoRandom don't support subdir and space in dirname. For picture conversion, I found a different way...

I modified conkyPhotoRandom like this :
Quote:
#!/bin/bash
#
# Photo in conky
# by helmuthdu and paulvictor
source="/home/sbskl/Images/Beautiful things"
photo=/tmp/conkyPhoto.png

cd "$source"
number=$(find . -iname *.jpg | wc -l)
random=$RANDOM
random=${random}%${number}
lines=`echo ${random} + 2 | bc`
filename=`find . -iname *.jpg | head -n $lines | tail -n 1`

convert "$filename" -gravity center -resize 360x360^ -extent 360x360 -bordercolor snow -background black -polaroid 0 $photo
convert $photo -resize 180x180 -gravity center -background none -extent 180x180 $photo

exit 0

The picture conversion is more simple and made always a squared picture of 180x180.

The first convert line can be change by :
Quote:
convert "$filename" -resize 360x360 -bordercolor snow -background black -polaroid 0 $photo

As you want...

But conky-color.c must be changed for support the new picture size.

Thanks for your good job and sorry for my poor english, I'm french ;o)

Any chance you'll add a conky line .py script for VLC. It's best for my music playing needs, very fast and real stable - most of above lack this features (Banshee used to be my favourite but not it's pretty limited in many ways).

Hi,
really good job.

I noticed that in italian translation there's a mistake:
in italian "network" results "rete", not "rede".

I hope I have helped you and that my English is not bad.

Bye.
