Description:

Now it's easy to customize your desktop!

Conky is a free, light-weight system monitor for X, that displays any information on your desktop.

CONKY-colors is an easier way to configure Conky.

This conky script support multilanguage:
Bulgarian, English, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian

How to install
Go to a terminal and type:
$sudo apt-get install aptitude python-statgrab python-keyring ttf-ubuntu-font-family hddtemp curl lm-sensors conky-all
$sudo chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp || https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75639
$sudo sensors-detect #answering Yes (default) to all questions, even that last one that defaults to No

Now restart your session

Download and extract the conky-colors.zip and type in terminal in the same directory that has been extracted.
$make
$sudo make install
$conky-colors {options}

$conky-colors --help [for help]

Ex: if your cpu is quad-core and you want the noble color, with hd, network and pidgin monitor and all in portuguese
conky-colors --theme=gnome-noble --lang=pt --cpu=4 --network --hd=default --pidgin

For a working photo widget you need to specify a file or directory in conkyPhoto or conkyPhotoRandom script in ~/.conkycolors/bin/

Update your font cache:
$sudo fc-cache -v -f

+++ Kaivalagi's Scripts (Included in conky-colors) +++
Conky SSL Mail Script: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869771
Conky Rhythmbox Script: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=928168&highlight=conky+rhythmbox
Conky Banshee Script: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7683570
+++ If you can, say thanks to him for this great work +++

in terminal type conky -c ~/.conkycolors/conkyrc.

To run conky at startup, go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications, click "Add" and add the path to the conkyStart file[/usr/share/conkycolors/bin/conkystart]

that's all folks!

OPTIONS FROM THE SCREENSHOT:
conky-colors --cpu=2 --calendar --photord --clementine=cd --hd=default --network --theme=wise
conky-colors --sls --weather=brxx0043 --theme=orange
conky-colors --cairo --cpu=2 --clock=cairo --network --theme=blue
conky-colors --ring --network --theme=red
conky-colors --slim --w=1440 --h=900 --theme=white --weather=brxx0043
conky-colors --board --w=1440 --h=900 --theme=cyan

KWON PROBLEMS:
Lua/bash scripts work with conky 1.8.1, but most of the python scripts still doesnt;
SLS MODE only work with lm-sensors configured
The position of the photo and cover may be wrong bc in ubuntu the space between the widgets is different from Archlinux (I'm an arch user now)

Just tried on my Arch install and I confirm that the picture stuff doesn't work on Debian due to imglib not being included as a compile option.

I think you should post this on other sites as it's not Gnome-specific, it works and looks really well in my Arch + fluxbox install.

Thanks for the great work! ^_^

Regards.

How did you rotate the frame?
Not just the photo.

Inside conkyPhoto script in your ~/.conkycolors/bin folder find this string and change the bold value:
convert -page +2+3 $photo -bordercolor black -border 1 -background none -rotate 0 -background black \( +clone -shadow 50x3+0+0 \) +swap -background none -flatten $photo

ex:
convert -page +2+3 $photo -bordercolor black -border 1 -background none -rotate 5 -background black \( +clone -shadow 50x3+0+0 \) +swap -background none -flatten $photo

Hi,
Your desktops looks very nice and beautiful.

I tried to install the conky colors and get a desktop like your desktop screenshots. To do so I followed these steps:

$make
$./conky-colors --help
$./conky-colors
$make install

$./conky-colors --theme=gnome-noble --lang=pt --cpu=2 --network --hd=default --pidgin

But my desktop is something like the following link instead being like one of your screenshots.

http://img5.tinypic.info/files/4cji5vvqohnbsxliwsan.png

Can you please share your configuration file to get a conky presentation like yours?

Or let me know what should I do to get something like yours?

Thanks

Just give another "make install" and everything will work :D
You have to type a "make install" after choose your options.
my options:
Quote:
./conky-colors --clock=modern --calendar=default --photord --lang=pt --proc=3 --banshee=vinyl --network --bbcweather=3849 --updates --ubuntu --theme=gnome-wine --hd=simple --dark

I've just updated conky to version 1.8 (latest) and the network monitor stopped working.
It detects my Public IP but not my Local Ip and does not show anything about upload or download.

Try to check what is your eth or wlan device(eth0 or eth1 or wlan0 or wlan1...), and then, change it with the option --eth=(number) or --wlan=(number)

Report

idodos

I'm using eth0 and "0" seems to be used by default, but I did try to use the --eth=0 command, it did not change a thing, I still don't get any network monitoring, perhaps I should attempt to use 1.7.2 again. Unless you have any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe the output from terminal can show us something wrong. Install a new version maybe solve that as well.
Sorry, but I don't have any other idea :(

Report

idodos

There is no output about this in terminal.
Though no worries, I appreciate the time you put into maintaining this script and answering questions ^^
I just downgraded to version 1.7.2 and it works perfectly again.

Thanks for your time!

The author said :
"For a working photo widget you need to specify a file or directory in conkyPhoto or conkyPhotoRandom script in ~/.conkycolors/bin/".
However, There are "source=blabla" and "photo= tmp/conkyPhoto.png". Which one we have to specify according to the author. Moreover, why photo = tmp/conkyPhoto. If you know it, can you give me a hint pls
Thanks

You just need to specify the source image, the other one is a modification of source that is shown in conky(resized, with border and cropped). the /tmp directory is abirtrary, you can change it to wharever you want, but don't forget to change in your conkyrc after that.

in conky-color<option>, we do have an option for "weather".However, we also have another instruction about the weather script at "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869328". My question is
1.What is the purpose of this instruction
2.are there any relationships between them
Thanks

I didn't create all the scripts in conky-colors. These pages are from the creator of those scripts, so, if you have any problem/solution/modification you can ask/say directly to him.

I think I figure it out. We can modify it because these options are in the C file named conky-colors.c.Am I correct.
