You probably don't have the libart_lgpl and libart_lgpl-devel packages installed, they should be on your RH9 cds. You should also run ./configure --prefix=/usr to get the windec installed in the proper directory. Good luck!

I haven't tested it on SuSE, but just a quick guess, I think SuSE installs KDE under /opt, so try running ./configure --prefix=/opt, then run make clean, make and make install again. It probably gets installed under /usr/local by default. Hope it helps.

Yeah, you're right. I did it manually, though. I installed under the default directory and then I moved all the files over to /opt/kde3/ and it works.

The download link returns a tar.tar file(?!) which appears to be corrupt. Tar doesn't understand it, and gzip errors out too.

My advice, don't bother until it's updated...

It's a .tar.bz2 file and I think your web browser is uncompressing the file and loading it into the browser. Try right-clicking on the download link and do a "Save Link As..." if you're using Konqueror, or try using wget. It might be a problem with the mimetype on kde-look.org or your web browser. I couldn't upload a .tar.gz because it was too big and kde-look.org has a 750KB limit for the uploads.

In konsole right-click and choose "Settings/Schema" and then choose a transparent one. You can define your own transparent schemas also. Don't forget to do a "Save Settings" after.

hi,
i'm a newbie with linux.. I'm using the mdk distro.. I was amazed with this windec so i downloaded it to try at home..

the "./configure" was successful
the "make" was ok
but i got an error message for the "make install"
Something like

"Entering directory
"Leaving Directory
any ideas what i've done wrong..
sorry for not having the exact error output rigth now...

Hi

Entering/Leaving Directory is no error-message, it only informs you what make install is working at right now.

A common error though while installing is not beeing root. You don't have to be root during ./configure and make, but when the install-script needs to copy files into directories only root can write to, you have to be root.

Try make clean, "./configure --prefix=/usr" then make and make install again, it should install properly, I've tested it on Mandrake 9.0.

I've got to say that the little touches that you've added to your desktop make a world of difference. They're beautiful and really show the potention of the K desktop. Thanks for posting the great windecs. I'd like to ask one more question.

How are you generating the dropshadow shown on the Panel at the the top of your screenshot? Are you using an image or some other hack (like one the dropshadow patches). If you are using an image, could you post the image?

Thanks :) You can get the drop shadow here:

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6244

It only works at 102x768 screen resolution.

What is the docker that you're using? It looks damn authentic...!

Report

The docker is a simple Karamba theme that I've made a while ago, using the Aqua icons and some transparent images that I've made with gimp. It doesn't have any special effects like the newer SuperKaramba themes, because I like it to be small and always visible on the desktop. I wanna work on a new docker that would be able to load skins from this site: http://www.iheartny.com/xicons/dockskins.php, but I don't have much time right now. If anybody's willing to do it, please go ahead, that would be a really cool docker :)

Don't suppose I could have some of the artwork? It's been a bit of a pain to try to get the background looking right - I'm a spastic on GIMP. :) In any case, those icons look damn good... could you post it as a theme here?

Report

Of course you can have it, I'll post it under the Karamba section soon, when I have a bit more time :) I didn't post it because it doesn't have any effects, it's pretty simple, so I thought nobody would be interested. The icons I'm using in the docker are from the Aqua icon set.

3 questions.

Which Icon set does the little menu star shown in the far left corner of your screenshot originate from?
I've searched the aqua icon sets that are posted here and have yet to come across that little star. It's just perfect for a menu. Would you mind posting it some place for downloading if it is no longer included in an icon set here.

What menu is shown upper right corner of your screen shot by the clock?

What font are you using for your date and time?

Report

The little star comes from this icon set: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=2241. I've just resized it and made it a bit darker with gimp. I'm using the star because I'm running Mandrake and it resembles the Mandrake logo, but there's a few other nice icons in that icon set.

On the corner after the clock I have the Desktop Access KDE button, and the arrow is the right panel-hiding button, it's not a menu :)

The font I'm using for the clock/date applet is Luxi Sans, bolded for the time, and it comes with most Linux distributions (I'm running Mandrake).

Hope it helps :)

Looks good, except the window border on the top isn't the same lenght as the window itself. And what style are you using?

Report

C

Yeah, the window title is smaller only when you choose "No borders" in the windec configuration. I think all the variations of the Acqua windec have this "bug", I'm not sure it's a bug or not as I didn't write the original windec. Maybe somebody can fix it? :)

I'm using Liquid with some small changes, I've just commented out the code that draws the 3d shadows for the panels, so the top panel looks flat.

how did you get the scrol bars to look blue? I am using liquid 9.6(rpm from plf) and all my buttons look grey. Is there an option in the configuration panel?
