Description:

With the 0.1.3 release you get 307 different icons framed in tinted lenses. The new icons cover mainly games, configuration/system and emulators.

Read the changelog for more information. You can either install Marbles as a theme or unpack it by hand and use only the icons you find attracting.
[Marbles cooperates with Conectiva's Crystal Icons (which most people will use). You must apply Marbles anew if you update Crystal Icons.]

Marbles tries to frame already existing items from different iconsets to provide a consistent style for your desktop. Except the marble design and a few newly created icons all pictures used are other artists' stuff. This includes "art reuse" (as in "code reuse") of crystal icons, slick icons, iKons, hicolor, Acqua and different other ones found on kde-look. Thus the copyright/copyleft restrictions of the original artists still apply. I deeply hope everybody agrees with my attempt to unify the icon look for the rest of us who don't have the time and skills to create their own complete, originally, ground-breaking innovative theme. If you don't consent, please let me know.

distro should provide disk space for this icon theme -- it's beautiful, orginal, fully consistent and functional, no other icons set has ALL this features. KDE needs this icon theme (and so do I!)

Thank you for your friendly comment. Most users seem to think different - this theme is getting steadily and fast downrated ATM, so obviously there is no longer much need for it. I guess most people here prefer solely Conectiva's suite. :-)

You have 3 icons for cd audio: normal, mount, unmount. How to (un)mount a cd audio???

Well, I guess the CD is in the tray (mount) or not (unmount). BTW, you aren't forced to use this icon. :-)
For the third icon: I had to delete it anyway.

Well one of the best icon package i saw. But if it was easier to install it would be better and I would like to see icons for kppp,alsaplayer and xine ;-)

It would be cool if you could write a script that would make use of ImageMagick (or something else) that batch processed an installed icon theme so that every icon was overlaid onto the marble graphic. I know this is possible, but would require a rather technical solution. In any event, it would be possible to apply the script to any theme (i.e., a new release of iKons etc) without having to manually do it.

It should be possible to automate a great deal of the framing, but there are two drawbacks.
First, only 90% of the other's themes icons could be processed automagically. The rest has to be manually fitted into the frame. I can show you some examples of possible failures if you want to. :-)
Second, many icons from some themes are definitly not suitable for marbelization and must be replaced by icon from other sets.
But there may be a way to do it semi automatically. I'll think about it.

i have an idea that would be kind of cool. in terms of making mounted and unmounted icons, why not keep the unmounted icons transluscent, but the mounted icons be a background color... i think that would look rather neato and be able to distingush the mounted vs unmounted icons.

also look forward to some more application icons. some good ones would be xmms, mozilla, gaim, and open office (with the birds, not star office's butterfly).

Was already done as an example in 0.0.3. (cf. http://www.kde-look.org/content/preview.php?file=1567-2.png and for a varariant look into the upper right window of http://www.kde-look.org/content/preview.php?file=1567-1.png
into the last line of icons.
There are red and green lit respective tinted (2nd screenshot) mount/unmount icons for the zip drive present. You could chose yourself if you want red+green or clear+green or red+clear as mount status indicators.
Is this what you mean? If so, I try to provide these scheme for all mountable device icons in 0.1.1.

you should name the icons to the default kde names so that they are themed automatically... most are not.

they look quite good, but you need some more apps... the expansion pack is a good start, but more is still needed!
