Description:

nuoveXT is an icon theme for GNOME and KDE.

This is my first attempt of creating an icon theme. There is still a lots to do, but I thought I could share what I've done so far. Made entirely with Inkscape.

A big THANKS to:

- Inkscape: what a great tool! :D
- Ubuntu, Linux and Open Source in general
- All the other GNOME and KDE artists who have inspired me and specially everaldo (http://www.everaldo.com/) which is, I think, simply the best icon designer out there ;-)
- Open Clip Art Library (http://openclipart.org/).
- DeviantArt: One of the best place for inspiration and artworks.
- pwsp.net for hosting my project.

Constructive feedbacks are more than welcome ;-)

Enjoy!

Just want to say that I don't care if those folder icons are rip-off or not because they are the most beautiful folder icons I have seen so far. IMHO this is a very good looking icon set (especially the color choices are great) and I actually enjoy using it. Thanks!!!!

I totally agree. It's a good theme but not a theme that could be the default for KDE4 since it has some rips of Windows Vista and MacOS X.
The default KDE4 theme as well as the default widget theme and layout must be something new, not a rip of Microsoft or Apple's work.

Is there a 2.0 or sth. similar coming soon? Because, I use your iconset for a pretty long time now, but there are still some icons missing in 1.5: An opera icon, icons for kget, kmail etc. Especially many icons inside the applications haven't been done yet.

I would love to see this icontheme as a standard for KDE4. I mean, just take a look at the mockups and screenshots here, nearly everyone who loves eyecandy uses your iconset. You're the standard in icon-eyecandy on KDE now!

So please keep up the good work and create all the icons needed to replace Crystal with nuoveXT!

I think nuoveXT won't be the default icon set for KDE with this license:

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License

The word "NonCommercial" makes this license unfree in the sense of the defintion of free software in debian or if you don't like/trust debian in the sense of opensource.org

I don't blame the author for chosing this license, it's his good right, but it's also the reason, that we only have 1.1 in debian which was under gpl.

I consider myself a little picky and conservative on these kind of eyecandy stuff, but this icons set got me all the way.

Thanks a lot for the great work!

The iconset version 1.1 is now available in the debian-archive. the package name is: kde-icons-nuovext

Note: currently we can only provide version 1.1 (GPL) of this iconset, since the new version is non-free due the non-commercial clause :(

kind regards

This is a really nice icon set. However, it's been said that it doesn't scale down very well. I agree, and I think for this to become a major player, as it certainly has the potential, it needs to be reworked at lower sizes. thanks again for this wonderful artwork!

Really great icon set. Love the new look even better.

Had one little comment though - the new trash can looks rather uncool. The old one was great...and the new ones a little confusing too - just having a lid on to say it's not empty.

I like the iconset a lot, trying it out right now.

On a sidenote (and I'm probably the only person who doesn't know): which window decoration and style are you using in the screenshot?

I really like these icons. especially the SuSE icon. How about a new YaST icon? The look of the firefox icon is especially cool.

Great job, and keep up the good work!

Oh, damn, I'm so used to them now, I use them daily. I can't wait for a final version!

Still, I have some things you should take a look at (apart from the missing icons): The back and the up-button for directory browsing (e.g. in konqueror, or in save and open dialogs) are pretty similar. Please make them somewhat different so that they can be divided at the first look!

You should also take a look at the konqueror and kontact buttons, the world in the back of them is a little bit too small and looks more like an egg than a sphere.

But still, it's the best iconset out there!

Very nice icons!

It's a pity that they under GPL, though. I wanted to use them in mine project (not GPL, but open source). :(

Hello!

At first I have to say this icon set is awesome!!!
It looks very "grown up", not like other "girly" sets!
Please KEEP ON WORKING this icon set!!!

OK, here some tipps (wishes):

- The KDE Menu Icon is too spatial, it looks very uncolorful
- Please add a cool amaroK and Firefox icon
- We need more KDE related icons:
Control Center, Player Icons, Logout Icon

You could consider getting an account from http://www.pwsp.net to host your KDE-Related artwork. It has a server dedicated to KDE projects. :)

You know what I really love on your icons? It's the tiny shadow below each of them. This makes them look just SOOO incredible, it gives the desktop a little bit of a third dimension.

Really nice, using it every time now. But plz make an "Opera" icon for the next release (and maybe an openoffice 2, too), then I'd be REALLY happy :D.

Thanks! Much appreciated ;-) Openoffice and Opera is on my todo list... As well as few other corrections/suggestions stated above.

very good work, I am right now using your iconset - hope it will get more and more icon with time!

just a couple of hints:
1. trashcan icon is too transparent - no matter which wallpaper I choose, I hardly see it;
2. Klipper icon is "too white", it's difficult to see what it means - at least when it's small;
3. kcontrolcenter icon doesn't look well at all when in small size.

I will report more as I keep on using your nice iconset!
